@ErikRibsskog I have listened to the original and I find them beautiful and unique in their own way. The only two musicians that have ever inspired me to such a high level are Regina and the John. It may sound like I'm just saying that to prove a point but it is the truth. They just have different styles, styles that I'm used to. So I find both versions equally awesome. I do understand what you're saying though. The way she plays this brings out her Russian roots, so it is a little strange.
@ErikRibsskog How you got "depressing" or "pretentious" out of that completely baffles me. The only word and I can even begin to think of after hearing that is "beautiful." Besides, if it were sung an octave lower and played in a different key it wouldn't be a true cover. It would be a replication.
I love Regina, and i like her cover of No Suprises by Radiohead.Saying all that,John Lennon's version is so hard to top.A nice cover still, very relaxing.
Rubbers protect shoes; muffers prefer bushes; there's ugly talk afoot and all of it's about footwear, that is: what shoes have become. What becomes of you, of me, of our footwear when Jesus returns? I'm waiting for something genuine in my footwear; for something genuine to come to pass; for guidance, admittance & sanity on a planet guided by warfare & footwear.
Well, she's working the Yamaha, so I imagine she was thinking along the lines of, "I bet those guys and gals sitting in the back would really enjoy watching each other sleep."
John Lennon may have written this song, but he neglected it, and the surviving Beatles only treated it as a cash-in. It took Regina Spektor to treat this beautiful song with the respect it deserves. When I marry my girlfriend, I'm playing this song.
@mgo26 i disagree entirely. though i'm not a fan of jeff lynnes production, the beatles version is incredible, and to say it's a cash in is absurd. they were all worth millions upon millions. they finished that song, in my opinion as sort of a farewell, seeing how the beatles broke up, free as a bird and real love were fucking amazing swan songs
@mgo26 John Lennon just had a different personality that's all. Still, I love the two versions, with John's amazing vocalz, and it's just that Regina sang this song perfectly. just the way it was.
actually, Lennon only ever recorded a demo that was used in the postumously made "Imagine" documentary. It was later remastered as the other Beatles played along with his vocal for Anthology 2. So Lennon never did record this song.
Imagine if he had! Lennon & McCartneys throwaways were better than most writer's best efforts. Though Spektor is definitley in their class as a songwriter; she doesn't have a song I don't like.

Incorrect. This song is by The Beatles, not just John Lennon. I love this performance.

This is very well done. It's nice to hear the song with clear vocals, as the versions with John on them were pretty scratchy and over-processed.
