HI, Prickly pears are not grown commercially in our area, of that I am aware. Instead we grow the dragon fruit, which is VERY tasty! Look for growers in the western states for prickly pears. Good luck!
Hi! Do you guys do seeds? If so, how much does a couple of Dragot Fruit Seeds cost, and where and how long do they grow? How long do they last? And do you trade fruits and/or seeds? I could get some fruit or seeds to trade if you guys do that.
thank you! and this catus is equal to dragon egg catus or cereus peruvianus? the taste is the same? bacause people said the dragon fruit cactus is good for grow in tropical areas with rain and not to mutch heat in the summer. its true? my place in the summer heave sometimes 40 degrees.celcius thanks for help
The length of time to get fruit depends upon how large the cutting is to start with, and what kind of care you give to it, but it is possible to get fruit in 2-3 years.
It is difficult to tell for certain which dragon fruit plant will bear red or white fruits, unless you have been growing several varieties for a while and so are familiar with the slight differences in the plants. Ask the nurseryman where you purchased the plants to identify which plant is which, and then be sure to label the plants.
Hi! The time it will take for your plants to bear fruit depends on several things. How big the plants were when planted, the care you have given them while they grew, and the weather conditions in which they have grown. It is possible to get a piece or two of fruit the year after you plant the dragon fruit plants, but I would plan more on two years after - again, depending on the above conditions. But be patient - the wait is worth it!
HI! Since the thorns along the stems of the dragon fruit plants are quite small, I do not believe that removing them would do any harm to the plant. But there really is no need to remove the thorns, as their small size do not pose much of a harvesting problem. If you are concerned about getting poked by a thorn, just wear a long sleeved shirt and some garden gloves when picking your dragon fruits!
Hi. Great video. I recently bought one and planted the seeds in a cup. Is it possible to grow one as a houseplant? I live in southeastern Michigan and cannot grow this outdoors. Thanks again, and i appreciate the video.
sure you will get plant like that from the seeds if you will take good care for it but if you are looking for fruit you will have to wait 8-10 years! it is better to get a piece of big fruting plant from friends or just order it from nursery and you should have flowers and fruit in a year or something. it grows very fast and you will have to prune it.
Gee, I don't know if you will get a plant from the pitaya seeds. Our growers here grow their pitaya from cuttings of known varieties. With that method of propagation, they are certain of the fruits that will be produced. The problem with growing fruits from seeds, is that you are not sure of who that parents are, and the resulting fruits may not be of good quality, OR, they could be the best in the world! You just don't know. But give it a try and let us know what happens!
@crochunter627 Hi! Dragon fruit plants are cactuses, and so will need strong sunlight and warm temperatures to survive, let alone thrive and produce fruit. Unless you have a green house to give it the tropical climate it needs, it will not do well. As far as growing it as a house plant, give it a try! Provide it with as much light as you can, and keep it as warm and humid as possible. Good luck to you!
You have a sharp eye! Yes, that pineapple top was planted soon after the video was shot, and it is now growing very well. I should have a pineapple from it by early next year! You can do this too. Just place the top of the pineapple into the dirt about 2". Water. Afterward, give it as much sun and humidity as you can, and water when the dirt is dry. You should have a pineapple in a year or so with proper care. Check out the U of Fla publication on the Edis.ufl website. Good luck!

HI,
Some growers may be using organic practices, but you would have to contact the growers directly on our website to find out which ones. Thanks!
