@Abcormal He has confirmed that all of it is Shakespeare, and that the first line is 'o 'oghlu'meH qul ("Oh, fire for inventing" -> "O, for a muse of fire!" from Henry V, prologue).
Late to the party, but I thought these videos were a great way to use annotations as links to revive an adventure game most Trek fans missed out on. And I wish I saw stuff like this more often, or at least with Star Trek: Borg. :3
@bionicledragon Um... you understand he's not saying klingons enjoy the taste of innocent blood right? He's saying we (humans) think that about klingons.
u know i read that in the new star trek movie that takes place after jj.a. 2009 movie if they do put the klingons in the movie they will resign their look. and have them intermix with other species . now that will piss me the fuck off if they do that
Thanks for the upload! The game doesn't work on modern systems, at least not without a lot of messing around and patching the software and whatnot and most people are too lazy for such things.
Thanks for keeping the game alive!
Anyone who liked this game will like the Borg one. Just search for "Star Trek Borg" There's a couple of versions up.
yo did anyone ever think maybe the english monologue he says directly after his klingon monologue IS THE FUCKING TRANSLATION OF WHAT HE SAID IN KLINGON?! rofl
@rocklobsta1415 Yup, but he doesn't say "leader" till near the end of the English dialoge and says it at the start of the Klingon, so I doubt it. Unless they mixed up the order of the text for the Klingon dialoge, ala Bryan Gyson, but I kinda doubt that. XD
Man, fuck Gowron. He answered my ad for a babysitter and did this shit for thirty minutes then stole a mister pibb out of the fridge before falling asleep while my kids played with that daqtagh he's always waving around.
Doesn't he say tIq (heart) and not tIgh (custom)? Klingons talk a lot about tIq (tIqDaq HoSna' tu'lu'. Real power is in the heart, tIqwIj Sa'angnIS.I must show you my heart, etc).
Also, his opening speech is the prologue from start of Henry V (it starts "O for a muse of fire, that would ascend). Hence the qul in the first line. Marc said he would look for the translation, but he hasn't had much luck finding it yet.
@qurgh I think it ends of the "That did affright the air at Agincourt?". The line with choQ (deck) is probably the "So great an object can this cockpit hold" line. Okrand probably translated cockpit as something to do with a ship and not a pit that cocks (chickens) fight in.
i never really liked star trek i was too young at the time i was born in 88..... i had this game though and loved it..... i was probably 9 or 10 when it hit irelands shores.... i used to tremble if he said MIV! if it was my turn... i think this actor is great all of the comments say they hate him but thats the whole point
@johncenasuckscock1 Only a FEW people say Robert O'Riley (Gowron) sucks. Most say he's great except that he has trouble speaking Klingon. Big deal! All actors have trouble speaking Klingon. Without a good Klingon Language expert, you can't expect them to get it right.
MY criticism is that Director Jon Frakes and Producer Dan Dugan didn't have Mark Okrand HIMSELF show up for this filming to coach everyone. (Okrand invented the language after James Doohan made up the first 30 or so words)
if you've seen the "on line version", the only thing missing is the voice recognition (which never freaking worked when I had Windows 3.1) and the sound fx when pressing "buttons". that and a "hidden" video of him mispeaking "wi yicha" before it was edited and fixed. He mistakenly says "wi yichu"
Since he can't really pronounce Klingon, I only understand this:
oghlo meS qul rova qa DevwI' jon a jaj QIv lo togh lo cha oquv wuv quS So ta oS loghe luchlo lochawI'pu' ojaj SuvwI'pu'e' nej logh lo jaj losbej laspu'leslo vIraS lotal meH quSlaqa SadIba che Doghovam puj chap qeva Daq aghlntoq choq luwIjpuj'a mIv ya meje DIHoloja.
LMAO! It would appear so. Sorry for the call out. And you're right, O'Riley, while awesome, can't speak Klingon for shit. I bet if they asked Christopher Lloyd, he woulda totally did this.
And no the world's not quite that cold and dark. It's just fucked up XD.
Not even the best schollars of the Klingon Language have been able to figure out what he's saying. The problem is that (a) noone seems to have a copy of the speech in print, and (b) the actor who plays Gowron frequently mispronounces klingon words.
For example, QaHom at 1:40 is supposed to be pronounced KAHOM, not KWAHOM, but because it starts with a Q he feels compelled to pronounce it that way because usually Q in English is followed by a U.
@smitto21 am I sure that he's saying QaHom wrong? Yes, because he says it correctly in the language lab. ^_^
Am I sure he's reading from a script written in Klingon and not just spouting gibberish during that monologue? No, but I seriosuly doubt it was just improved yammering.
no im not douting that he is reading from a script buti think he is pronouncing Qa'Hom correctly as its pronounced the same way on Voragh's notes on Klingon cursing
@smitto21 Qa'Hom is pronounced "Ka - Hom" (like in the language lab), not "KWA-Hom" (in this speech, twice)
I think you're referring to how Voragh mentions this intro. "unable to defend himself, and thus not worth killing. (This is how Gowron uses it in the introduction ..." He's speaking of contextual usage, not pronunciation. According to his site, Qa'Hom has neither a U nor a "wu" sound, as Mr O'Riley uses it here "weak as a Q(u)a'Hom". it's Qa' which in Klingon is pronounced "KA" not "KWA"
Damn, i coulda sworn I posted a response to this already. .. hm
... anyway, Virtual PC is free from Microsoft. You need to install it on Windows 2000 or later, but you can install any operating system on a virtual PC (except maybe MacOS). When you install/run it it will say you need XP Pro or Vista Business or Ultimate, but it will work just fine on XP Home and Media Center, as well as Vista Basic and Premium.
When he said,"You are frightened" I was laughing. XD
