  • Wow... I love her outfit... Thank you for the music!

  • em q ano foi????

  • I LOVE KAREN CARPENTER SOOOOOO MUCH!

  • IF only they (ABBA, Carpenters) had met just once......Olivia Newton-John had ABBA and Andy Gibb for her 1978 TV special and had Karen for the final part of Heartache Tonight on her 1980 Hollywood Nights special..Olivia, Carpenters and ABBA embodied perfect pop music.

  • thank you abba for creating this song!

  • If only the talents of Benny Andersson and Karen Carpenter had a chance to meet more often. Here the band's performance is a bit too modest.

  • How thin she is here. What a tragedy that something as unworthy as an eating disorder took her life.

  • Thanks Karen Carpenter for the music. :)

  • is it me, or does anyone else find her eye brows very, devil like? very distracting? and very weird looking?, dont get me wrong i love the carpenters, but its just something that gets me when ever i watch this video.

  • @chriswhyte006 her beautician plucked her brows too thin and too angled. when her brows grow back in they look alot better. check the other million videos she made ;)

  • @chriswhyte006 :it's just the shape..

  • ...lass Karen erst mal singen!

  • whats with them eye brows

  • Beautiful and perfect, Thank you for the singing.

  • What happened to the music industry? Why do i hate modern pop so much?

  • look at their hands and wrists her legs... she's so thin, so skinny !

but we love you Karen by your heart, your feelings, your love and more than your music, for what you are...

    May God Rest your soul

  • Karen is and will ever be an angel and a treasure! Her voice and style matched perfectly to this wonderful ABBA song! Thanks for sharing!

  • We should be the ones thanking you for the music that we may

somehow know that there exist an era before where true music lives. :D

  • I should say "THANK YOU" MS. KAREN CARPENTER for sharing your golden voice to us..

  • I love that beautiful voice (L)

  • @garebear1015

    indeed. :(

but the more admirable that she still had that angelic voice.

  • I had a ticket to the Colston Hall, Bristol England. Had saved up - a civil servant on shit pay then. But the lady died 2 weeks before the show and it broke my heart - long, long, time ago, Her voice was unique and touched the soul. It is sad that she was never happy after all the money spinners took over. Exploby greedy, selfish people because she was gifted. God forgive them all. She would now be a grandmother singing to her grandchildren had not been so emotionally used and abused.

  • 13 deaf people disliked this video

  • @MrMemoryslot I sufffer sudden deaf and I like Karen, this is comment illogic and unfair.

  • @MrMemoryslot That was a metaphor and in no way was I blasting the hearing impaired. I am the last to seek a person out and offend them. I apologize if you felt that way.

  • who was first, karen carpenter or ABBA

  • @UpYoursNightmare If I understand you correctly, ABBA created the song and first recorded it in 1977. This is a cover, performed in 1978.

  • the carpenters and ABBA is probley the most well known singers of the 70s

  • I wonder what she'd make of the new music of today? I guessed she'd probably think it a little crass...

  • No....ABBA did a Carpenters cover and much better even tho I love the Carpenters...

  • I'll be darned. I didn't know the Carpenters did an ABBA cover.

Karen and Agnetha: two of the most incredible singing voices in history, born 34 days apart. Just sayin'.

  • @rematpac You've really missed something.

  • I love this version of this song absolutely brill!

  • i cant move on with her voice....

  • @LilWayneMetalGod Freekin Idiot!!!!!

  • Frank Sinatra is quoted as saying that the only female singer that he would pay to see is Karen Carpenter.

  • i cannot get over karen carpenters voice. it is so mesmerizing

  • guess who she is thanking? It begins with S.

  • Karen voice, very pleasing

  • Thank you for the people who uploaded this to You tube. Karen you left us far too soon.

  • She's so lovely, love her music and listen to her when im in need to be happy sad.....

  • hey " fdesignr "oh i see, from the contemporary perspective of those who didnt grow up hearing her amazing, angelic voice, no worries, i understand ur comment better now, no apologies required, both of your recent comments are totally valid as far as im concerned, my best to you. R.I.P Karen.

  • How cruel! I am watching this vide, and then this ad pops up asking me if I wanna loose 16 kilos!!!!!! GOSH! :(

  • Karen Carpenter " UNDER-RATED" ???? she was adored THEN and NOW, i think "fdesignr" ( comment above), i cant possible understand how anyone would think this of her, her voice is the stuff of the most beautiful dreams, her voice is positively angelic and is utterly timeless.R.I.P. Karen.

  • @memyselfandeye3 I apologize if you misintepreted my comment. I love her voice. I meant "underrated" from the perspective of the younger generation (now). I didn't learn about (Karen) Carpenters until I was almost 21. Also, most musicians have the aide of technology while Karen's is completely natural and that is very much amazing talent. :)

  • Wow, amazing video....Never saw this before. It gives me GREAT JOY but also GREAT SADNESS to see this. I don't bother to compare them to Abba, two distince styles. Just enjoy it. What I hated about this is seeing Karen the way she is, how is it that nobody who saw her daily could not tell she was as thin as a pencil in this video.

  • She looks so frail. It makes me so sad that such talent like that can go away so quickly. Thank you, the Carpenters for the music

  • One of the finest voice's of the century! why didn't her brother look after here? i would have done????????????????????????

  • @MrWolves666

I asked myself that question too.

  • Good singer, good performer. The end.

  • Baggy clothes so she don't look skeletal. Sad.

I wish people learned from others mistakes and never repeated them. If that were the case though I guess society would be perfect and boring, so folks gotta keep on doing the same dumb stuff generation after generation. We gotta have the drama I suppose.

  • she looks GREAT here!

  • Karen looks terrible, and actually she sounded much better in earlier days too. The Abba song is fair enough I suppose but would rather see her on drums and doing more jazzy material -- or slower

  • I think a slower tempo would've fit but still a fine job.

  • They did a good job with this Abba song! God, I love her voice.

  • no karen thank YOU for the music :) <3

  • Abba and karen are just awesome. Just listen to it carefully.Sounds tthe same...

  • although the original version is best, this cover made me even happier knowing that one of the greatest singers had sung one of the greatest songs ever !! People should be proud, not unpleasant...

  • Yeah, Karen had such a beautiful soothing voice. But for this song, Abba's version was better, in singing and arrangement of the song.

  • Allthouth I'm a big fan of the Carpanters (and Abba) I really like the original version by Abba. Untill know I didn't even know that the Carpenter covert this sung.

  • ABBA y Karen, que emoción!

  • What a voice. Gone way too early.

  • What a treat to hear one of the greatest singers that ever lived singing classic Abba. No singer moves me like Karen Carpenter can. Especially songs like Superstar and Solataire. Love and miss her always...

  • shes so thin here .. shes sick and suffering from anorexia nervosa tsk tsk

  • Hurrah. I never knew the Carpenters covered this song. One of my all time favourite groups doing a song of another all time fave. Loving it!!! :-) Rip, Angelic Karen

  • She looks too much thin

  • unless his/her's english is unknown by themselves, your sentence should be more perfect as " she should have sung with the ABBA as a third singer. her voice would have suit with the other singers perfectly."

  • What a voice...

  • I love her. She´s incomparable.

  • good version!

  • i looooooooove k.c. i'm her no.1 fan an no one else

  • She should have sing with Abba as a third singer. Her voice would have suit to them! (apologize bad english!)

  • no that wasn't bad at all

  • Мне очень нравится!

  • @fdesignr very well said, if only she'd hung on.... :(

  • Teraniel 111 I hope your joking. This song was an Abba song from The Album (1977) and maybe was sang by the Carpenters as a tribute. The Abba piano player is one of the former member and his name is Benny Anderson. Never hear of him :-) ?

  • OMG I love this woman, she is my idol, ( I am a guy) I know pretty much all of her songs, what a truly angelic woman, she was so magical, I recently found out that Karen and I have the same birthday, (month and day) and we are both Pisces. Pisces people are often very talented, psychic, and very headstrong, we like to do our own thing, and we dont like to be told what to do!, ( I am exactly the same way) I am also a singer/pianist , I feel a connection with Karen. its spooky!

  • @maleficentdiva gemini rules!! XD

  • Nope..sorry...your way of the mark teraniel. It was written and credited to Benny and Bjorn from Abba. Oh..and Benny was the pianist of ABBA, he was never in the Carpenter's Band!

  • I like this song so much. Also very notable that she is actually articulating. It's a pity that I can hardly understand any single word of newer songs, even when they are (supposedly) my language...

    So well done!!!

  • i will admire them for eternity!!

    viva the carpenters

  • Oh Richard, Karen, the band, supporters, producers, how can the world ever thank you? And Karen, you and Richard are the best of the class - coming from a littlebody who really enjoys all of your songs. Lord's blessings forever.

  • yes karen truly loved her fans for her to go thru all the pain and suffering she had just to please her fans.we will always love u karen

  • Not the strongest Carpenters repertoire in all honesty but a good song for the occasion. Lovely bright singing.

  • she looks so sick...but i know that with her voice of an angel she is up in Heaven.

  • Poor Karen she looked very very ill here. The voice just as wonderful as it always was though.

  • Loving her music, loving her fans, Karen willingly went anorexic to please them. Imagine the pain and suffering she has brought herself to, just because she wanted everybody to be happy. Don't talk about who should be punished or what, talk about the love she had given to music.

  • Increíble su voz...incredible.

Karen ...................why did you be anorexic?we still love you

  • thank you the carpenters for your wonderful music!

  • just wow!!

  • perfect

  • Una hermosa vos,que nos dejo muchos recuerdos!,fue y sera mi favorita,la mejor!!.romantico potosino.

  • her voice is a voice of an angel and those idiots who told her to lose weight should be strung up by their necks!!!! they are the ones who killed her and robbed us all of this wonderful voice....I always loved the carpenters.....

  • she looks so skinny by now...

  • Voice of an angel - to cover ABBA so well shows the talent we were robbed of far too early RIP Karen

  • This aired on NBC on June 27th, 1978.

  • On February 4, 1983, less than a month before her thirty-third birthday, Carpenter suffered heart failure at her parents' home in Downey, California. She was taken to Downey Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead twenty minutes later. The LA coroner gave the cause of death as "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa." Her divorce was scheduled to have been finalized that day.

  • @FieryFire13

    a broken heart :'(

  • does anyone know what year this was?

  • 1978

  • Thanks teraniel11. She was so beautiful, and they truely brought people joy (think- "I'm on the Top of the World!" I will never forget the day she died.

  • when does Karen Carpenter Dies??...and is ABBA is the one who made the song THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC??

  • i forgot the day when she died but "Thank you for the music" was sang first by the carpenters! the composer of the song is a member of the carpenter's band but when karen dies, he became the pianist of ABBA!!

  • not sure where you got that information but ABBA sung and wrote the song first and this was just a cover version by Karen not sure who the pianist was you are reffering to but i would be interested who he was?

  • the composer was the one who uses the flute in this video!!! as you can see, hes also the pianist of abba!

  • OMG,.. you are right!!! Thanks for solving the mystery that Karen sung this song first but ABBA composed it....

  • Agree with you on the eye-brows ;)

  • Don't I'm being disrespectful of her or her brothers talent, but her eyebrows looked a bit high here...

  • Thank you for your music Karen.

  • I never knew about this cover. I was shocked! Imagine, the Carpenters singing ABBA! Two of my all-time favorite artists. The original was better but Karen did a great job, as one would expect.

  • I love this song. She did a fabulous job, as usual. It's catchy and it makes me happy. :)

  • i have just listened to abba's version both live and studio version... I prefer karen's version if pitch-perfect. no offense to abba, though they are the original they sounded too harsh for my taste.

  • This must have been just before she died.

  • Definately! Look the way she looks....so skinny and sick. Clearly a victim of Anorexia.

  • She's... so... skinny. Great voice though. Music back then had more meaning and much better sounding.

  • what year was this?

    x

    good version xx

  • I think it was 1978,,not so sure

  • hey guys im just confused who's the original singer or who is the first singer san this song Thank you for the music coz from what i know is ABBA is the original but i think Karen Carenter same first b4 the ABBAs am i correct? Please correct me if im wrong im just confused

  • No ABBA did it first. This is a cover. If you want to hear a good version search here for 'abba metal' then pick this song off the list.

  • very nice version!!! Karen Carpenter i really adore your voice... Its very unique smooth voice I really like it... but now seen youve been gone your memories will still be with us forever!!!

  • Excellent version.

Karen was a true talent, sadly missed. xx

  • Gosh, this is sad:( It's the first thing I've seen her do that I didn't enjoy anything about it.

I am happy that there are so many wonderful performances to watch. I have always enjoyed her talented voice. I love singing her songs. She will never be forgotten:)

    BOP

  • oh and I remember also Celine Dion has great eyebrows:-)

    ánd VOICE.....!

Wonderful singer and person, I just wish I could have a coffee with her and I am sure we could talk for hours!!

  • Ofcourse Tonight Show is American!

David also danced with Karen in some Great shows on USA TV. I only was refering to the wardrobe Karen was wearing in Europe,(NL) She and Richard looked great anyway.

The eyebrows, we all had them.. it was fashion in 70's look at Farah Fawcett, Bo Derek, and me..;-)

So Carpenters covered some songs YES, but People always talk about how Elvis changed the world of Music, well Carpenters gave Harmony and Romance and a Great Voice to Music. Timeless

    Great Job!!

  • Why say the carpenter girl cant sing and Abba can sing? why not say they both were good singers? Cause thats a fact all the other comments are just childish.

  • @globe255 Well said! ABBA and the Carpernters were the two BEST bands in the WORLD, EVER! End of discussion, in my opinion :)

  • @thegenie1 The songs both ABBA and Carpenters sang were all good and catchy so they were lucky that way, but it still takes good singers to sing them if the audience wanna listen.

  • @thegenie1 "Queen" was not so bad, wasn't they ?

  • @metensarnaud Queen was good, but again....for ME....#1 and 2 will ALWAYS be ABBA/Carpetners, Carpenters/ABBA! When John lennon and Barbra Streisand tell the girl she's talented, who can argue with that? (Barbra told her she has a "magnificent instrument"), and even Bette Middler apologized to her for the jokes in the end......

  • @thegenie1 AGREED! I love Abba! And the Carpenters! Actually, I was just talking to a friend the other day saying that there just aren't any good, reputable singers anymore - none that will endure the test of time like they used to. My favorites are: Elvis, Abba, Peter, Paul & Mary, Carpenters, John Denver, Elton John, Queen, stuff like that.

  • @globe255 one more thing.....I have always wondered if Karen did ABBA,and for me, this is a bonus, not a takeaway! :) I wonder if ABBA did any carpenters?..........That would be cool.....

  • @thegenie1 Abba never did Yesterday Once More, Only Yesterday ...... The only covers they recorded - if they can be called that - were on a medley of old songs: Pick A Bale of Cotton, On Top Of Smokey and Midnight Special. I wish they had tackled covers.

  • You poor person, you have no taste or idea

  • a HUGE loss. american idol can't touch her talent

  • D1878.................so right, no one will ever match her talent, so lovely with such a voice no one can even come close........god bless her soul

  • superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE The Carpenters. Those eyebrows should be legends in themselves.

  • the carpenters..!! tambien escuchamos en paraguay..!!! aguante THE CARPENTERS...!! Tomas Ruiz...!!

  • John Davidson - HOMO....

  • This song was first performed by Abba on their European and Australian Tour of 1977, as part of the mini-musical The girl With The Golden Hair. It was then released on Abba The Album, which came out early in 1978. At the time, in many territories it was released as the B side of the single Eagle. In the UK, the song was not put out as a single until 1983, by which time, Abba were a spent force, as it never reached the top 20.

I am an Abba fan, but I also love Karen's voice.

  • Additional. Abba performed this live many times. They obviously knew how to make the recorded sound. The Carpenters didn't, but that shouldn't detract from this charming version.

  • Comment removed

  • i got this band from Juno =) when she says her fav bands to the dude whos ganna jak her kid

  • Karen looks particularly anorexic in this one.....................the host here is singer John Davidson ..........not likely a dutch show.

  • This is on the Europe tour and this outfit I remember from a newspaper in Holland, it was in a dutch TV show when Karen was wearing this nice outfit. 1978! This year I also got married.:-)

So I kind of missed it all that year about Carpenters, They always had perfect shows! But I never went to any of them...sadly enough.

SO: thanks for posting this :-)

  • Karen had so much talent and so much going for her but was still unhappy.

Although the vertical stretch in this video exaggerates it, look at how very thin she is here - and if this is 1978, it's 5 years before she died.

But what a wonderful voice - one of the very best ever.

  • I do love her :)

  • love this

anyone know what year this was?

    x

  • 1978

  • Such a pitty she is not alive anymore, by her voice live on forever

  • love Karen's voice soooo much!!!!

  • Thank you, Karen (and ABBA) for your such unique music!

  • i didn't know that they sang this song as well. it's nice. ^^ goOD job carpenters.

  • Thank you Karen

    You will be missed! ..

  • karen R.I.P. and thank you for the music! :)

  • I wish Richard had released the original studio recording of this that was created during the Passage album sessions. He could have put that on "As Time Goes By" vs "Dizzy Fingers."

  • Thanks, Karen

  • "for the rest of their lives" ..sigh.
