Kelly, Did Luke or the Dubs ever record "She moved through the fair" I seem to recall hearing it in O`Donoghues many Years ago. On the other hand it could have been someone else, as I might have been a wee bit slathered at the time
This great song is another Luke gem & I love it. If you can find a version done by the Ian Campbell Folk Group!! Have a listen, I am sure any Luke Kelly lover will appreciate the voices of Ian & Lorna Campbell. Magic as usual kellyoneill.I lnow I have said this all before but there you go.
@Teddyb1939 Yes Ian campbell Folk Group does this song very good - but of all versions i know is this one with Luke and The Dubliners absolutely the best

I'm not sue whether I've commented on this before or not but at the risk of repeating myself, this is the essence of Luke Kelly. Unless you are part of the magical Irish culture you won't get...but if you are you can't fail to appreciate the beauty of "I Know my love"
How lucky I am to have heard Luke in the early days of his career when his voice was at its best just as it is on this track. Wonderful, just wonderful. Never has a voice sounded sweeter. Perfect pitch from a man born to sing.
There's a great story of Ronnie and Luke while staying at a hotel in London looking out the window at the traffic passing by. A car heads for the hotel and disappers out of sight right below them. Luke turns to Ronnie and says "Well that was an obstacle illusion" Ronnie turns to him and says "You mean on optical illusion didn't you?" and Luke say "No it was an obstacle Illusion, we thought there was an obstacle down there, but it was only an illusion."
It takes a man like Luke not to be bothered whether the song is sung by a man or a woman, he just sings it! And leaves no doubt at all that it is a man singing.
And does a damn fine job, which is a bit of an understatement, but I have run out of superlatives when describing Luke
He can say any damn thing he wants about the gender, and even if that makes him a 'homophobe' then fuck it, he can be and it doesn't matter because most, normal people are what can be called, 'homophobes'.
Luke Kelly's interpretation and delivery of Irish Folk music is unsurpassed. Living in Canada, when I play Luke and the Irish Rovers I'm reminded of where my heart is.
lars3939 - if there's no connection between the great JJ and the great LK then why did the latter take the name of a book be the former to rename the 'Ronnie Drew Group' ? There's more than satarrant drinkin' that stuff...
im only 17. and i love it. i understand where ur coming from. because its so frustrating seeing kids these days all into rap and all that bullshit. this is real music. i love it, cant wait to go to ireland next year either :]
I grew up listening to the dubliners, my dad loves them, and I really appreciate him playing these songs to me as a kid. I now live in the States, and have a 1 year old, he is already listening to The Dubliners.

"a troubled mind knows no rest"
This is the perfect counterpoint to "Peggy Gordon" it seems to me.
