@MrBlemph No. They miscalculated the speed of the train. Aside from the fact that the parked train obscured their view of the oncoming train, locomotives appear to be going slower than they really are when they are coming directly or near directly towards you.

Also, the woman didn't look before crossing. The man did, but because he was looking at the train, he likely didn't realize that the girl was continuing to cross until after the fact.

the way the bnsf (metra) has the bells set up is as follows- when a train approches (duh) the bells and gates go. when the train hits a certain spot, the bells stops ringing. when another train approches (as in the video) the bells start ringing again. SO..if the bells were picked up by the camera's mic, both of them had to have heard it, and knew another train was comin. assuming both of them lived in the area, and took the train a lot, so they should have known that another train was coming

How sad. I am a lot more aware of trains now. They are no joke. Unless your'e super human (no one is), always give the right of way to trains, even if you have to wait 10-15 minutes. Don't let any one judge your surroundings for you, look for yourself. I read that the train was going about 60 mph. When you see or hear a train stop for it. You won't know how fast it's going until it passes.
