I'm just concerning that will these kind of cheap battery explode when the next time you need to heat it up again and replace another battery. thanks for the video, i watched it without sound and it still very clear and understandable.
No, I would certainly say it's not worth it. Especialy since the IPod comes with just about the best battery of them all, and most of the people destroying the plastic on their devices will come to find that it's not even the battery that's been fried out. Fifty versus one fifty. I'll take the common sense route and opt to NOT, bake my disposable electronics with the hair dryer. Thanks but. Nah.
i just opened up my ipod mini, put in a new replacement battery, and now the ipod is permeanently on lock even when I switch the button back and forth. What did i do?
No need for the hairdryer really, not sure why it took you nealry 9 minutes (or more cos of editing) to do this took me all of 5 minutes. Might put my own video post on.
ah good, just replaced my ipods minis battery, and it works great now! though i hate how the Batterys only last 2-4 years or somthing I dont remeber before they stop holding their charges but I'll worry about it when the new battery dies (or probably have a new ipod thats sorta like the mini... if apple gives up on touch screens wich they wont untill people realise its not that amazing)
Haven't used my Mini in about two years. I plugged it into my computer, and the "Low Battery" picture came on. Then, after a couple minutes, the "Apple" logo came on. Then, the screen just went blank. Still blank. New battery time? Please help thanks!
hi,my mini wont turn on or charge,my mate said to plug it in to my comp for 30 mins then it should turn on but it hasnt so does it need a new battery?
Go up to eBay. I just did this procedure this afternoon. The battery cost me about $6.50 shipped with the two screwdrivers. Took 10 minutes having never done it before.
and while you're at it you can get rid of the heavy hard drive and instead put a flash card for either longer life, more memory, or if the hard drive is to heavy
Best tool for this is the BOJO ATH-4, it's the one copied by Ipod Juice. Bojo tool is much stronger and wider than the pathetic little pry tools often shown and is made in the USA.
awesome! thank you so much. it was this or another brand mp3 player as i have no motivation to put any more money in apple's pockets after this consumer ripoff of a original battery. i'm just sorry i missed the delays for participating in a class action lawsuit. apple can go suck canal water.
minis are soo much better and thicker thats what i love about them ihate all that new shit comin out like ipod touch and that new nano video they all suck
Thats exaclty what kept happening to mine and i had it less than a year, but i couldn't be bothered to get it fixed so i just got a sony mp3 walkman which is much better. but anyway how much was that battery???
Another way to take the white parts off without damaging the beautiful casing (:P) is to use a hot glue gun on the top white part (NOWHERE ELSE) putting a small steel rod, or something that will last a good tug and give you grip, then letting the glue dry.
Hi--I really enjoyed your video (informative and fun!). But what really caught my attention was the first piano tune, an arrangement of "I've Never Been in Love Before". Could you tell me who the artist is--I'd like to get some more of their recordings!
It worked if I had it plugged in. I could sync music and even play it as long as it was plugged into the computer or as you can see at the end I have the Apple iPod Power adapter.
When I unplugged it I could listen for about 5-8 minutes.
I love the little hands venturing in to be helpfull nice touch. I'll be attempting the same thing shortly. your video will prove highly usefull. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort.
We've found that a simple mini flathead screwdriver works best for prying out the metal clip at the bottom of the iPod mini, just be careful not to nick the Molex plug or your ScrollWheel won't like it.
sweet i may revive my ipod mini, the best mp3 ive ever had. i even prefer it over the nano. anyways, what battery kit did you use, could you post a link. as ive never seen the blue tool before, and the majority of battery kits come with basic flathead screwdrivers, and i dont want to damage my beloved.
Thanks a ton man! MY dad saw me brosing this stuff because I need to replace the battery on my 5th Gen, and then he asked me to do this for his Mini. For all of the people asking, it really is worth it considering all of the songs that you might have on your beloved Ipod.
I found that the blue plastic things were a little flimsy but they did the job. A stronger plastic tool would still be advisable over a metal tool as it could damage the iPod.
was it worth puttin a new battery in ur ipod. Because im thinkin of doin it to my ipod. Did u have to be very carefull wen doin this not to brake any cables.
Not all that careful and for the price is was well worth replacing the battery to revive the mini. I use it daily. Right now and the battery is holding a GREAT charge.
Glad this worked for you, but we've found that you can safely pry the end caps off with a sharp plastic tool (we have the iOpener) and you avoid the risk of cracking the LCD from the heat if you get too close/run the blowdryer too long.
Like video and music ;-)

what was the point of the blow dryer? to soften? to dry?
alexdah 4 years ago
The blow dryer is to soften the glue that holds the white plastic in place.
You reheat the same glue when you put it back together. Take care to not over heat to the point of melting the plastic.

Slowly heating the plastic ends warms the glue that holds them in place.
It becomes gummy, re-heat the glue and attach at the end. No need for any additional glue. An basic but essential step.
