ya they did, actually she's also in that episode of csi miami that is almost a replica of what happened. Her sister played the reporter. (episode:darkroom in season 4)

She isn't dead. They ended up using the story for a CSI: Miami episode called "Darkroom". She had a small role as a reporter in that one.
