I wish the judges would work out their definitions before the songs are selected. It's disturbing to hear them have the same argument every week with the artist standing there with no real control of the song they sing.

This performance was just ok for me at first...but then i listened to it about 10 more times..and couple times with my eyes closed...her voice is AMAZING...i still want her to come out and slay it next week with an uptempo song

Just because a song is from a rock band doesn't technically make it rock. Just because the original song is soft-rock, doesn't mean this performance, the one sang by MELANIE not REM, is rock. You can change a pop song to a rock song, and in this case you can change a soft-rock song to a soulful number which is not rock. So everyone saying that LA is wrong, or that REM is a rock band, is missing the point of his statement.

Anyway, she sang good.

I loove this song! She's a great singer, great vocals, but Nicole was right, she didn't connect emotionally as much as she did before. The change-up to R&B/Gospel at the end was a little weird, yet interesting though.

In that case, I'll assume that you're not stupid and that you thought like the rest of us that Melanie's vocal ability, alone, mattered most in this performance. Even though it MIGHT NOT be rock, the performance was still incredible. You're a fool to discredit this performance solely on the basis that the song wasn't "rock" enough. Get over yourself L.A.

LA is right. That wasnt rock. They could have easily added something to make it more rock. And YES rock is mostly guitars and drums with bass....with occasional piano. this isnt typical REM. They dont make this type of song normally so this song isnt really rock. Its a ballad. Times like these are when I disagree with Simons Ego.

Sorry..Adele is a great singer but she is not ROCK. Neither is Alicia Keys. They are more blues and pop. Not rock music. Melanie has a beautiful voice though.
