This was on my dad's Windows 3.1 computer.

It was a really popular screensaver back in the early 90s. It was so unique that it was comical and contained a sense a charm, something we don't see very much anymore.

I used to have this screensaver in the 90's and never forgot it. Now I have it again for Windows 7 but am not getting all the scenes that are displaybed by ruudje1976. I do see the mermaid but not in the scenes displayed here. I do remember much more in the 90s..I just hope the conversion has not lost these scenes. I get more of the liliputions, dressed naked in costume, the party boat and the bottle with the SOS.

I heard rumors about the scene where Johnny is in the office thinking about the island. I thought it was urban legend, turns out it's true! Never saw any of those story scenes.

This popped in to my head out of nowhere last night. I spent what ended up probably being hours watching this in an office I worked in in the mid-90's, yet I remember none of this story line. Only the wacky random encounters. Thanks for posting this. It was, and still is, the coolest screen saver I have ever seen.

Its one of the few free movies/games than runs itself! Love this one. I just downloaded an XP variant of this saver, and gonna see my brothers reaction when they see it! My dad went nuts-happy a few minutes ago, so... heheheh!

All the sounds are from a game called "The Incredible Toon Machine", also by Sierra... I still play it, it never ages :)

I remember this from when I was a little girl!! My mom had it on her computer. I'd sit and wait for the screensaver to come on 'cause Johnny's antics were ever so fascinating! :) We also had the "After Dark" set that came with screen savers like flying toasters, "bad dog", and a farting xmas tree XD

I got the screensaver for Windows XP at PCWorld.com.

if you have trouble running it, i found this advice: "Johnny will run as a screen saver if you rename scrantic.scr to ssScrantic.scr or ssJohnny_castaway.scr. In other words, just add ss in front of the name"

@CasatechEuropa: Those are all regular scenes or end scenes, not story scenes. Each day has just one story scene and is marked by that particular "bling sound" in the beginning of it. You can find all other scenes in my Johny Castaway playlist.

There's a version that works for Vista on the Johnny Castaway homepage (top hit on google when you search 'Johnny Castaway'), and most things that work on Vista also work on Windows 7....so don't assume it won't. Although it definitely won't run if you have the 64bit version of Windows 7.....as no one has made a 64bit compatible version yet, sadly (I'm waiting for one myself).

@DrumHeadz83 yes there is a version for windows 7 and it has sound. i tried to download it and i thought it did not work cause apearitly my sister saw and heard it on my netbook (small 10" laptop) which has windows 7 starter. you can google it at "johnny castaway" and just read the website. it toke me awhile to find the right link so just read it.
