Hey could you possibly lead me to a good link that explains what a Poynting vector is? I am still pretty confused about just what is meant by that term. I am familiar with the explanations of devices like this working by ion wind....or the more mysterious and elusive term 'electrogravitic'. But the whole Poynting thing is new to me. From what Ive read it seems like a possible explanation, but Im still kinda confused about it. Thanks!
@frankensteinmoneymac A Poynting vector has to do with light or radio waves. It depends on how intense and in what direction light is going. But this doesn't have to do with that... it's just a 'lifter' turned on its side. Probably this thruster design was just named after Poynting, the physicist.
@looksintolasers Thanks, honestly I do remember reading something which was trying to tie Poynting Vector to this phenomenon, but it was a while ago, and I dont remember it making much sense to me at the time. I had compleately forgotten about it till reading your reply just now. All I could find back then seemed to be along the lines of what you suggested, but if I find anything suggesting a link as I did before I will reply back. As far as I can tell U R right about there being no connection.
Yes, it's very fascinating, looks like reactionless. Here's some links:

However the thrust's still very low; the same power supply easy gets lifter to fly and barely moving this thruster.
I believe it would be very effective if to find how to amplify this setup.
