A government's job is to protect property rights, especially the right to one's own body. This requires a domestic police force (covered at the local level in America), a military, and courts of law. Read the Constitution.

I don't see a problem with free health care either.. for the same reason - let's put it this way.. if you pay 1/300 millionth of the nations health care costs in taxes... or just pay for your own health care.. it's about the same - except you wont get hit with one gigantic bill - instead it's an even constant rate - and doesn't cause bankruptcy. - think about it.

govts that try to watch out & take care of its people
govts that try to control and dominate its people
& govts that arent actually govts. Those that have devolved into anarchy.
a controlling govt may use claims that it is trying to help to cover it's domination. But once you say that it isn't the govts place to help & watch over the country the govt no longer has any function at all.

The difference between the US and China? The Constitution. Though the Constitution has no words on how our economy should be run, so we can have a socialistic economy and still have our freedoms covered by the Constitution. Capitalism may be a great idea, but a free market society is a dream that can not exist.
