this feels... poorly cast, IMO. I mean - I think Jude Law is actually pretty spot on, but Sean Penn feels so... wrong. You need a John Goodman character for Willie. And is Kate Winslet Sadie? That feels really wrong too.

Jackie Earle Haley as Sugar Boy is excellent, though.

The only reason people want to go and see this film on the basis of the trailer is because of the use of Thomas Newmans' "Brooks was here" theme from The Shawshank Redemption in the opening 20 seconds. Contrary to what this trailer would like to suggest, that wonderful piece of music does not capture the spirit of this film. The emotions evoked by the piece are stolen in this instance and do not belong here with this motion picture.

The actor who played Willie in this is ten times more Willie Stark than the actor from the 1960's film.

Sean Penn was (yes...) brilliant in this. I'd never read the book or saw the Broderick Crawford version, but I hated the ending. Willie Stark was cool!!!!

When Stark was speaking the people were inspired and motivated. There are some evil criminals around today too, and I wish we had a leader who had the guts to demand " Nail em up" about them as well. Some of these criminals are thugs on the street, others are thugs in office towers wearing $3000 suits. Nail em all up.
