This would have been a great interview but for the interviewer who made a lot on unnecessary interjections in the course of the interview. A good interviewer should allow his/her interviewee to answer questions without unnecessary interuptions as seen in this interview. Prof was excellent but the interviewer was not that good.
@Maduakonam1 I beg to disagree. This is the right way to conduct interviews; ask questions that need to be answered and prevent the interviewee from going on a tangent or basically directing the discourse to an area that favours them. I recently watched a so-called interview with Ikedi Ohakim and after the interviewer asked him a single question he went on a 15 minute PR campaign. Nigerian press must learn to ask the tough questions.
@tlig I completely agree with you that an interviewer should not allow himself to be led by the interviewee. But what I do not agree with and which is not a good interviewing skill is to ask someone a question and the moment he/she opens his/her mouth to answer, the person interviewing cuts in again and does not allow the person to answer the question.
2. @tlig Some comments should wait till after answering the question asked, not cutting in and raising voice and trying to emphasize your 'point' in the course of the interview. In an interview, the interviewee becomes more important than the interviewer. Check great men who made namesin TV chats and interviews like Parkinson of UK, Larry King, etc.
3. @tlig When you ask a question, you sit back and allow for the question to be answered. You only come in to direct the answer to your question or to cut off when the answer is dragging for too long. You do not ask a question and provide an answer, otherwise, why ask? Check many comments like 'may be because he was a military man', 'where did the ... of subsidy come from...'etc, They were unnecessary and the tones at times are not well moderated. End of!
@Maduakonam1 I agree with much of what you have said and I am familiar with interviewers that do the sort of constant interjection that you criticise but I really don't think this guy is doing that here (this is the first time I've watched him, mind you). Another thing about Dr Tam is that he doesn't get to the point quickly enough, and I mean that with no disrespect. You get the feeling he has a lot to say, and that's okay, but there's generally a time limit on these things.
