Van Halen...Greatest American Rock Band, They were to the 80s what the Beatles were to the 60s and Led Zeppelin were to the 70s..... Changed the game for everyone...imo
would be a great song to have on the new album, i am hearing that they went back in there stash of old songs for the new album, i would still love to hear a few brand new songs i hope
hahaha its so awesome how you mixed the video in....the first few times i watched it was frustrated since its a mix job but now i just enjoy pretending im watching it live. what i would do to see VH in those days....its inhumane
Wow, I've been a huge VH fan since the early 80s and I've never heard this until tonight. This is a kick-ass song if I've ever heard one. I wish they would write more stuff like this and get Michael back in the band. I know, wishful thinking.
Van Halen was great throughout their ENTIRE career. The good music did not just stop after 3 albums. Plus with Sammy, did you never listen to the FUCK album or OU812 or Balance? People put this twist on Hagar-era that he was all about ballads, Van Hagar produced great hard rock songs too(Black and Blue, Poundcake, Runaround, Top of the World, The Seventh Seal, etc.)
@jakemk21 Agreed. Balance is definitely one of Vh's darkest albums (with the exception of "Not Enough"), so I don't know why they always throw the "ballad" word with Sammy. As far as I'm concerned, 1984-OU812 are part of a trilogy. I call it the "keyboard trilogy". "Drop Dead Legs" and "Summer Nights" could be the same song.
EDWARD,ALEX,DAVE,MIKE 1977-78 WHISKY A GO-GO....john buccholz, paul toles, todd cooper, joe aurelio, ron dailey, two sets a night!!...5ft from Eruption...backstage.
dudes from band Angel...punky meadows, barry brandt...bit'ch'n 70s summer nites and Van Halen was unleashing themselves on the world...the absolute hungriest musical act anyone had ever seen!!!...the rest need i say is history.
I Grew up with Van Halen! The club days and the first 3 albums were material they were already playing at the clubs. Anything after that started going downhill! Fuck Sammy! Wasn't really part of the foundation of this Iconic Band. It's a real shame that they disbanded, I really miss their music and the personal memories associated with these guys.
@MattE5150VH : gotcha. it sounds like some of the club songs, and the "solo" wasn't that expressive, so I thought perhaps they had someone sitting in, as it were.
@PoundcakePlaysMW2 How can you not think its dave...that totally his timbre. There are very few fake vh demos...the most famous are black star and sleepless nights which are actually George Lynch prior to Dokken. This is real VH.
God damn, this shit rocks. Imagine if THIS was the opening song on VH II?! It's an actual scientific fact that VH was better with Dave than that fat fuck Hagar. Not even worthy of a debate...
@ANDLU1 Yeah man! I'm with you bro. What the heck-this song is being heard NOW? I mean, this song kicks Sammy in the nuts. And anything Dave did after VH, you know man. There have only been a few bands that basically owned the world and VH is one of 'em.
Yeah this song produced would be the shit... it could probably be released today (soon) on a new Album and be a popular song. Compare it to what the hell is out there today. Van Halen could carve a nice little nitch for a couple albums at least.
How exiting would it be to see a new concert with just nothing but these unreleased songs? No solo's, just unreleased music. Awesome, totally Awesome!
They opened their shows with this blazing ass-kicker back in '76 before they got signed. First time I saw them play this back then it melted my face...totally over the top. I could never understand they ditched this song early on and never used it on any of the records. It was a monster.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol.....0:58.......this vid is some of the funniest shit on youtube...2:08....again lol....goddam it this is fucking........can't ....type...anymore....lmao
@ANDLU1 It's become known that Eddie is going back to these early unreleased demos for inspiration for the material on the next record. You might just hear an altered version of this tune. That would be awesome. This is what rock needs nowadays!!!!!
You can see how much Van Halen truly enjoy playing and are quite happy jamming. Sounds so much better than the hard rock of today that's really angry and and too amped out. I'm glad I grew up on this music.
If Van Halen re-record this for the new album it will go straight to NO. 1!!! The music world is crying out for music of this quility to come back!! Just listen to the energy, excitment, attitude it's got everything!! And to think of it, it was written over 30 years ago...scary!!!! Van Halen Forever!!!
as much as i would like to hear this on the new album it wouldn't be the same because eddie isn't the same as he was when he was a kid. in my opinion he doesn't play with that youthful energy that he used to have.
How are we to know that "Eddie doesn't play with that youthful energy" as you said? It's been over 10 years since new VH music. IMO I thought that album (VH 3) was Eddie's best since 1984. He broke new ground in his guitar work and songwriting! But it got overshadowed & never stood a chance to blossom from the VH/Roth reunion debacle. Eddie's always about moving forward. Having to do the same old songs like Panama & Jump on every tour since 1984 can become stale & auto-pilot for VH.
You might be right but I think thats got to do with record company pressure. Lets face, it's like when Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, the record company wanted Whole Lotta Love Part 2, 3 etc from then on. They flog it to death, much like they do to todays artist. With Van Halen they wanted 'Jump' pt 2, 3 and so on. But a good sign lately is Eddie saying recently that the new album will be not what people expect of Van Halen. If Dave had sang on VH 3 album it would have been better received.
But I think we tend to judge him on what little hes released recently. But there's no denying when Eddie is inspired, that youthful energy is always there. I just wish I was a fly on the walls of 5150 studio so I can listening to the new VH songs being recorded, it's been a while...
FUUUUUUUCK ! What a extremely owesome tune , just found it , real killer song , VAN HALEN THE FUCKING BEST RR BAND EVER ! that´s a statement , period , keep rocking ! ( clear Zep and DP influence in this one )
Agree this should have been released. HIGHLY DOUBT it will be on a new album. 1st- It would have to be re-recorded with Wolfie on bass. 2nd- Background vocals would not be the same without Michael Antony. Nice find though!!! VH Rocks!
Daaamn this would have been a fucking number one hit if Van Halen would have released it...maybe it will see the light of day on their forthcoming album. That would be cool!
Number one hit? No way! I love VH! I mean, they are the BEST band EVER IMO but this song wreaks of cheesy late 70's rock vibe and there's no WAY they would even remember this tune much less rerecord it lol!. It's goofy. Sounds like something from a corny 70's band. Dont get me wrong, Ed Van Halen is GOD but this song is lame.
Hey dajzilla. While you are entitled to your opinion, the last I checked that "corny 70's music" is full of alot more soul and substance than the empty 4 chord garbage that is out today. I would agree with you that it is not there best unreleased song, however I would'nt say it's cheesy either.
It was definitely a good song, but let's say that it reminds me a great deal of Foghat, even more so than Van Halen. It has elements of Van Halen that would appear in their first album and the fine guitar work is still there, but where's DLR?
I hope that, now that the guys have gone on tour that they'll hit the studio. . . and show the little twerps playin rock nowadays how it's really done. . . and I hope they include this one and Put Out the Lights. . .
100% david lee roth and the guys singing. very young though. no one sings like roth with those screams. its a style unmatched. i could picture this one on diver down.
Ibanez should make an Eddie Van Halen signature destroyer (his explorer-shaped red, white, and black guitar with the cutout). THAT would be pretty cool.
nah its not eddie, mate, it's dave. He was younger then, that may be why he sounds different. Also consider th equipment was different than the stuff they used to do recordings and live shows 'cuz they werent famous yet.
these demos blow my mind-granted i love this band and they are extremely talented and probably one of top 10 groups ever but you can definately hear ted templeman the producer who helped them fashion their music into what it has become.
Anything with dave is pure gold. I can listen to any of the 6 released albums with dave nonstop. If anyone can tell me how to get these demos I would greatly appreciate it. Long Live VH.
We hope!!! Hopefully everyone can hold their egos in check, because I want to see them in concert again!! They kicked ass!!! I went with my uncle who saw em several times in the late 70s/early 80s and he said they sounded better today than back in the day
This isn't even the video for the song. The song is off of the Gene Simmons demo songs "Zero." Look at Dave's mouth he isn't even singing the same lyrics. The song is great, but don't try to match to another song!!
the song is a demo from van halen, but it doesnt have a video, so this guy used the video from "you really got me" so you got something to look at, when listening to it
I know what the song is, I've heard all of the tracks on the "Zero" disc. Kind of crazy to see video that doesn't match the song. Would've been better to look at some classic VH photos.
this is the promo video of VH lipsinking to the whole van halen 1 album. THERE IS NO VIDEO FOR LETS GET ROCKIN, SO I THINK THEY STUCK THIS IN THERE FOR YOU TO HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK AT. i DONT THINK IT WAS MEANT TO FOOL YOU, ITS OBVIOUS ITS NOT WHAT YOU HEAR. THIS IS WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE IN THAT ERA THOUGH.
I actually like Eddie's stuff without the gimmicks (aka "Wizardry"). The 1st album really has very little gimmick-playing, as compared to most of the Van Hagar stuff which is loaded with gimmick playing and is actually pretty boring (oh, wow - yet another whammy bar harmonic squeal)
Isn't it weird how Eddie really didn't use any of his wizardry in any of the early demo stuff? Nothing that would make you realize that it is him at all. No tapping, harmonics, dive bombs, etc. Great stuff though. I think maybe he was afraid he would be ripped off.
Exactly! Eddie didn't perform tapping in live shows until after the release of Van Halen I for fear of others stealing the idea. The lack of dive bombs would probably be due to the locking tremolo arm not being invented yet (I don't think it was anyway).
This song kix ass!! Van Halen over becuse of michael anthony?? Yea it sux they did that 2 him--Mike was a huge part of VH-- but theyre not over because hes not back with em. Theres no radio station out there whos gonna play anything new that VH puts out except for classic rock stations-- And theyll play it for a few weeks -just like in 1996 and 2004!
How the hell can you have a VH reunion without Michael Anthony on background vocals? can you imagine this song with Wolfy singing backup?.....not a chance...Eddie, swallow your pride and man up
I 100% agree dude! VH is OVER. It was a good time while it was around, but that was then. And without Michael Anthony there singing, it will suck. His voice is a huge huge part of VH's sound.
And hey, this track was pretty cool. Not as strong though as the first 2 albums (the bridge is weak and the riff is pretty basic), but would have made an awesome live song.
Is this with Eddie Singing it doesn't sound that much like DLR yet it doesn't sound like Eddie singing either and also is Mark Stone on bass on this track?
I cant believe that wasn't ever released. That was a great tune. Should have been on one of the Dave albums. Would have fit great on "VH 2". Probably would have been a popular song, catchy.
this song is in the new album in the name of "Outta Space". Holy Fuckin' Shit

100% david lee roth and the guys singing. very young though. no one sings like roth with those screams. its a style unmatched. i could picture this one on diver down.

this is the video for runni with the devil. I'm pretty sure.

I'm not 100 percent convinced this is even a Van Halen recording
pmullan1 3 years ago
What sounds fishy? Sounds like Ed playing to me (?)
steveinmidtown 3 years ago
now that i listen back, it does sound like Ed. At first it sounded like an old Sammy demo
pmullan1 3 years ago
they need to realease this song on their new album it kicks some major ass
yamaha776 3 years ago
Ibanez should make an Eddie Van Halen signature destroyer (his explorer-shaped red, white, and black guitar with the cutout). THAT would be pretty cool.
dantes1815 3 years ago
haha there not gonna thats why i built my own!
oldschoolHalen 3 years ago
Is that eddie singing
if it isn't please don't criticize
it just doesn't sound like david lee roth
alpha1shadow 3 years ago
nah its not eddie, mate, it's dave. He was younger then, that may be why he sounds different. Also consider th equipment was different than the stuff they used to do recordings and live shows 'cuz they werent famous yet.
akillerpanda076 3 years ago
these demos blow my mind-granted i love this band and they are extremely talented and probably one of top 10 groups ever but you can definately hear ted templeman the producer who helped them fashion their music into what it has become.

Is there any place where i could find the stuff off the ZERO disc? I'd like to buy it if possible.

This doesn't seem like a Van Halen song.

"OOOO MEEEEEE...BETTY LOOOOO!!" I'm singing along with my favourite band of all time again..thank you.

Anything with dave is pure gold. I can listen to any of the 6 released albums with dave nonstop. If anyone can tell me how to get these demos I would greatly appreciate it. Long Live VH.
VHfan4life24 4 years ago
Amen my VH bro!!! Long live VH and thank god Dave is back and for good this time. We really did miss you Dave!!!
Champane97 4 years ago
We hope!!! Hopefully everyone can hold their egos in check, because I want to see them in concert again!! They kicked ass!!! I went with my uncle who saw em several times in the late 70s/early 80s and he said they sounded better today than back in the day
dantes1815 3 years ago
How can I get those VH demo's
conet134 4 years ago
This isn't even the video for the song. The song is off of the Gene Simmons demo songs "Zero." Look at Dave's mouth he isn't even singing the same lyrics. The song is great, but don't try to match to another song!!
lortom99 4 years ago
everybody know this video is from
"you really got me" fool!
GVH1992 4 years ago
Really, then why is it under the heading of "Let's get Rockin'?"
lortom99 4 years ago
the song is a demo from van halen, but it doesnt have a video, so this guy used the video from "you really got me" so you got something to look at, when listening to it
GVH1992 4 years ago 4
I know what the song is, I've heard all of the tracks on the "Zero" disc. Kind of crazy to see video that doesn't match the song. Would've been better to look at some classic VH photos.
lortom99 4 years ago
this is the promo video of VH lipsinking to the whole van halen 1 album. THERE IS NO VIDEO FOR LETS GET ROCKIN, SO I THINK THEY STUCK THIS IN THERE FOR YOU TO HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK AT. i DONT THINK IT WAS MEANT TO FOOL YOU, ITS OBVIOUS ITS NOT WHAT YOU HEAR. THIS IS WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE IN THAT ERA THOUGH.
careypeak23 4 years ago
exactly
5150EVH5150 4 years ago
He just used the video for you really got me to give us something to look at and the mood is the same for the song as it is in the video.

I actually like Eddie's stuff without the gimmicks (aka "Wizardry"). The 1st album really has very little gimmick-playing, as compared to most of the Van Hagar stuff which is loaded with gimmick playing and is actually pretty boring (oh, wow - yet another whammy bar harmonic squeal)
dlchambers 4 years ago
Isn't it weird how Eddie really didn't use any of his wizardry in any of the early demo stuff? Nothing that would make you realize that it is him at all. No tapping, harmonics, dive bombs, etc. Great stuff though. I think maybe he was afraid he would be ripped off.
dajzilla 4 years ago 3
Never thought, but you got a point. The focus seemed to be more on ass kicking songs & a good show.
steveinmidtown 4 years ago
Exactly! Eddie didn't perform tapping in live shows until after the release of Van Halen I for fear of others stealing the idea. The lack of dive bombs would probably be due to the locking tremolo arm not being invented yet (I don't think it was anyway).
JwillsAintSlowhand 4 years ago
yeah, a little polish and it'd be classic enough to play on tour right now

This song kix ass!! Van Halen over becuse of michael anthony?? Yea it sux they did that 2 him--Mike was a huge part of VH-- but theyre not over because hes not back with em. Theres no radio station out there whos gonna play anything new that VH puts out except for classic rock stations-- And theyll play it for a few weeks -just like in 1996 and 2004!
stormchaserr 4 years ago
How the hell can you have a VH reunion without Michael Anthony on background vocals? can you imagine this song with Wolfy singing backup?.....not a chance...Eddie, swallow your pride and man up
whompus02 4 years ago
I 100% agree dude! VH is OVER. It was a good time while it was around, but that was then. And without Michael Anthony there singing, it will suck. His voice is a huge huge part of VH's sound.
And hey, this track was pretty cool. Not as strong though as the first 2 albums (the bridge is weak and the riff is pretty basic), but would have made an awesome live song.
RoryDupledorf 4 years ago
fuck you!! VH still lives

Is this with Eddie Singing it doesn't sound that much like DLR yet it doesn't sound like Eddie singing either and also is Mark Stone on bass on this track?

This verson is different from the the WARNER BROTHERS
'77 DEMOS Set verson.I think the WARNER BRO:DEMO of it
is alot better than this verson.
zisoul 4 years ago
I cant believe that wasn't ever released. That was a great tune. Should have been on one of the Dave albums. Would have fit great on "VH 2". Probably would have been a popular song, catchy.
gravyguy05 4 years ago 3
what a great song..it belongs on VH or VHII
