  • Hell is real, but it's a metaphoric reality. The Bible is metaphor, a large segment of Chrisianity is stubbornly literalistic...do the math: what does this say about the church? For those who can hear it, hell is identical to regeneration. One is either regenerated fragmentally and progressively to faith in time (sanctification) or we have the choice to be restored the 'hard way' in the lake of fire (God's pure essence). Hell is real, but in the end God's love wins...hell=salvation.

  • This is why we have to PREACH THE GOSPEL and tell the World Jesus loves them. Salvation is free JUST BELIEVE!! Humble is the key

  • Does anyone know how to contact Francis.

  • I wasn't going to watch this vid because it's almost 30min, but I kept wanting to click on it, and here I am, finishing the vid. Thanks for the interview, this has been very encouraging and intriguing from all sorts of aspects!

  • I think Francis' struggle with this topic is really genuine, and I pray God gives him the right answers, beit through the scriptures or prayer or dialogue with fellow preachers and apologists. This whole issue though leaves me asking the question, that if there's no enternal separation from God, no hell, no consequence to sin, what was the necessity in Christ's salvation? What's the incentive or purpose for living a life immersed in Christ if it didn't make a difference in my eternal home?

  • Is there any way I could email or chat with Francis?

  • God's using Frances Chan to reach those people that feel as he does. God is so faithful! I really like the guy asking the questions. He's real good at it.

  • @Jesusisthetreeoflife The EOC is an idolatrous religion. You need to repent and trust Jesus as your savior to escape Hell. needgod.com

  • @thekenny1175 huh? i do, Fully man, fully God with no intermingling (not as luther taught)

EOC is the Church. Oh, i didnt ask Jesus into my heart like you, because hes at the Fathers right hand and i didnt play pin the tail on the donky in a youth group because i do not bring the world and its form of worship into my theology... we memorize the psalms, not tim hughes ... our Church is 2000 years old and we dont owe it to Luther or Calvin, who killed the anabaptists.

  • @Jesusisthetreeoflife I didn't tell you to "ask Jesus into your heart". I told you to repent and trust Jesus as your savior. That's called being born again. And if you haven't done that, then you are going to burn forever in the Lake of Fire.

  • @thekenny1175 The whole point of that, is that "Jesus" was born again in his ressurection, the emphasis is on him as our "moses" or forerunner, we follwed him through the sea/baptism (symbolizing death) and now we must be "united by faith with those who believe" as we are in the reality of the book of numbers (that was written for our instruction). In the west we concentrate SO much on our sin, but look, its all about him, everything was made for him..and we look to him where he is

  • @thekenny1175 Why would he send me to hell for telling people he is the way the truth and the life and that theres no other way to the Father than through him?

The love of God has been poured into my heart by The Holy spirit, not cause i read it somewhere, cause i cant contain it. You reformists complain about your lighting bills for your church and the fact the kids need a wii to keep them in fellow ship...get candles and get pictures THEY CANT READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You could read a million books on the topic or you could look it up in the Book of books

    Let me help you: biblegateway,cm/quicksearch/?quicksearch=hell&qs_version=KJV

    God bless you

  • This Pastor seems to be having a hard time, so I'll try to help him out: Hell is a literal, burning lake of fire that God has prepared for the Devil, his angels, and all who have broken God's law. The Bible is very clear that Fornicators, thieves, and blasphemers will not enter the kingdom of heaven, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. Unless you repent and trust Jesus Christ as your savior, you will pay for your sins in Hell. needgod.com

  • @thekenny1175 Actually, Hell and The Lake of Fire are two different places. Hell is where the unsaved go and wait for judgement day but is not the eternal place of torment. The Lake of Fire is where the unsaved are sent after judgment day and is the eternal place of torment. Hell is also thrown into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:14)

  • @yesterway You are very right. is there any thing else doctrinally incorrect about my comment?

  • I don't want to go to heaven if there is a hell.

  • First of all, natural processes are fully capable of creating everything. Gravity created galaxies, planets, and stars. Second of all my roommate is a Christian and he is blind. My Dad is in a wheelchair with MS and he is a Christian. So I am not too convinced that God is real. It is tempting to see something beautiful and think that God did it. But I'm sure that things can randomly be beautiful. The universe doesn't need a god so you don't really have to worry about hell too much.

  • 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

    Romans 1:18-20 (KJV)

  • 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

    Romans 1:21-23 (KJV)

  • 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature

    Romans 1:24-26 (KJV)

  • @Walkinginthelight38 I LOVE THE AUTHORIZED VERSION!

  • @Walkinginthelight38 Victor Stenger quotes that verse in "God: The Failed Hypothesis" and says later on that natural processes are still able to create everything.

  • @LifeIsABigPuzzle ? we will all one day stand and give a account of our life>"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"Heb9:27 you can argue with me all day long Victor, but it will not change that fact there is a after life.I didn't say that i am but a messenger .

  • @Walkinginthelight38 Victor Stenger is an author. I am not him. I like to entertain the thought of Universal Salvation but the universe still might be able to come about by purely natural processes. And if that is the case, death is most likely the end. Then we don't have to worry about anyone. Sure, there is no heaven either. But you don't have to get martyred for Christ if there is no heaven. Just something to think about.

  • Its not about getting to some lofy place in the clouds, its about the Blood of Jesus clenseing us from all our sins and being a slave to rightousness

    .

  • my uncle was a muslim and i know he in hell.

  • Chickens on the pulpit!

  • I dont see how why pastors have a problem talking about HELL this is why i dont go to church any more

  • I'm very impressed with the interviewer. Very insightful and compelling questions. Hard questions but really good ones. Keep it up. Also, Francis' humility and striving with the LORD on things makes me happy. I know his heart is in the right place.

  • I love his honesty, integrity and sincerity.

  • read your book "Crazy Love" & was blessed immensly. Question is Jesus saying... Love me or I'll kill ya?...or You're dyeing, please let me save you...? Check out helltruth do t c om

  • Pastor Chan, I was moved to tears when I heard the love in your voice towards Bro Rob Bell & others who hold various different views than yours. I realy like what you said about people not knowing how to dissagree, & that "hell" isn't talked much about in main stream anymore. Would love to hear your thoughts after studying this angle hell truth d ot co m.

  • John 3:16, Only those who beleive have everlasting life, not those who go to hell (sheol, the grave) Dust to dust, ash to ash. They will not have life! There is no eteranl torment! Read the original scriptures this is a false doctorine created by the church and the Lord hates it... Repent....

  • "Preach the word; be instant[READY] in season, [AND] out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."

    2 Timothy 4:2

"These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with ALL AUTHORITY. Let no man despise thee.

    Titus" 2:15

I pray that he would have the ability to just "GO THERE"! Christ often offended many...even his own disciples!

1 Love, 1 God, 1 Faith "no ... scripture is of any private interpretation."

    2 Peter 1:20

  • I don't think the topic of hell is for the church

So this guy should not say that the message about hell is for believers, but for "the abominable and UNBELIEVING" as it says in Revelation!

  • I like Chan but Erasing Hell was brutal. It felt like he was still working through his beliefs and should have waited to write the book.

    youtube.com/watch?v=yjRcO1Sm0HU

  • Word to the wise: never, ever trust someone who goes on and on about their own humility and their former pride! This is a sure sign they are in deep self-deception and they are trying to sell you something. What Chan is selling is the old time religion of a vicious, Hitler-like God who stuffs billions of people in the ovens of Hell. Chan defends this extreme viciousness and calls it holiness and quotes some verses. So what? Southern slaveholders quoted verses too, as does Satan, they say

  • @jmbates5179 also word to the wise...don't always trust what people write in comments about a video. Chan isn't selling anything...if you listen to the video he says he is trying to bring some things to light and then each individual has to do some homework and praying about what is right. As for hell....it's either real or it's not...the Bible makes it sound pretty real, so if we want to discount that part of the Bible we might want to just throw the whole thing out. It's all or none.

  • @Emmatodd2119 Are you joking? He's selling a book lol... That's not a bad thing but you said he's not selling anything which is exactly what he's doing. He's not a pastor anymore. He writes very successful books...

  • @whatthehellbook ...ha ha...I know :)...of course he's selling a book...that is what the video was talking about. What I wrote was in response to someone stating that Chan was "selling" "old time religion of a vicious, Hitler-like God..." I guess my point was to let people know that Chan writes his opinions and interpretation (which he stated in the interview was so) and people need to start taking what imperfect humans write and weigh it against the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.

  • @Emmatodd2119 Gotcha:) Thanks for the clarification.

  • 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

2 Tim 2:15-16 (KJV) Amen very well put

  • @jmbates5179 , I have to say I disagree with your stance of Francis' humility and pride. One of the most humble people of all time Moses didnt waste the chance to tell people he was humble. He wrote it about himself in the Bible and we still know of his humbleness today because he brought attention to it...but dont forget he also brought attention to his pride he use to have in Killing an Egyptian and his previous life experiences.before becoming humble...I do see where you come from tho

  • I would looove to hear Rob and Francis chatting at Mars Hill on this topic... or any topic, really:D

But seriously, two brothers who disagree on something important, but discuss it from a place of LOVE... When was the last time we saw THAT in Christendom?? :/

I miss Mars Hill. Haven't been there in a while. Guests like this guy would definitely get me coming back.

  • @yobhsiFehT Rob Bell is too far outside of the Biblical faith to be considered a brother, he is one of those of whom Paul speaks in Galatians 1 "If we or an angel from heaven should preach to you any other gospel other than the one that was preached to you, let him be accursed".

  • @Rhuanjl

Being outside the mainstream is not the same as being outside the faith.

The only gospel Rob preaches is the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, repent and be saved - same as everyone in the mainstream. All the other things that are different are ancillary. They may well be important, but the MOST important things are all there and all orthodox.

I've been to Mars Hill hundreds of times. No offense, but I doubt you have, so seriously, please take my word for it: Rob's a Christian.

  • @yobhsiFehT I haven't been to Mars Hill, but I've listened to him and I've read him, his gospel is not the message of Jesus' death paying the penalty men deserve for their sins, his gospel is all about what we do as opposed to what God has done.

  • @Rhuanjl

Not true. Rob's preaching is all about what we can (and should) do BECAUSE of what God has done.

  • Hoosiertown, Francis addresses your question in another video where he discusses that God's ways and thoughts are exceedingly beyond our own and to assume that God's thoughts should be submitted to our ability to reason.

  • I would love to see a some sort of panel discussion with Francis Chan, N.T. Wright, Brian McLaren, Richard Rohr, Rob Bell and Philip Gulley.

  • This depresses me.I don't understand how the God who is love reconciles w/ the God of wrath who allows people to be eternally tormented.I know many scriptures plainly say this, but why does God's perfect justice demand eternal torment. Why is God revengeful?God doesn't have an ego;he is the great I am.I do not wish to second guess God.I trust God,but I guess I will have several questions for him once I die. Thank you for addressing this topic w/out the hurtful, vitriolic words so many others use.

  • @Hoosiertown read hope beyond hell. just read lots of books in general, best advice.

  • I don't understand why anyone would dislike this. Even unbelievers should understand Francis Chan is just seeking the truth, and he's doing it with all his heart.

  • What happens when you die? Have you told lies, stolen, used God's name in vain(10 Commandments)? If yes, then you're a liar, thief, and a blasphemer in the sight of God. When you die & be judged by God, you'll be guilty of sin, & go to Hell! But God sent His Son Jesus to shed His blood & die on a cross for your sins, He was buried & rose again from the dead on the third day. If you'll believe the Gospel(Jesus died for your sins, was buried & resurrected)you'll not perish & have eternal life

  • @gramosjr7 Thanks for clearing that up...just got through reading something from Way of the Master huh?? Just what we need in the church: more heartless, parroted dogma. No wonder the world laughs at the church. And its not that I disagree with what you've said...just the cliched, judgmental, holier than thou way you come across. Relationship changes people not finger wagging, but when the only tool in your toolbox is a hammer every problem becomes a nail.

  • Thank you Francis Chan for speaking the truth

  • Francis Chan said something very interesting... He feels pure sadness... I can only wonder, if a mere man can feel this much sadness that he doesn't understand completely... How much more did Jesus feel?

  • @mannyg735 You're taking what he said TOTALLY out of context. The Interviewer asked him "How would you describe THE emotion" And Francis replied "Oh, IT's pure sadness, pure concern." talking about THE emotion that they were referring to. Francis was saying that the emotion that he was feeling is pure sadness, and nothing else.

  • error. The Gospel is offensive to non believers and that is how they get convicted. Without conviction a person gets a loose end watered down gospel. Hell is 100% real and God is a God of Love But also wrath. Romans 1:18

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Hell is real and in saying there is a hell you are by no means wrong!

  • fear God. Revelation 14:7

Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. We need to fear the Lord because when judgment comes we need to be certian that we are in the book of Life. In his his statment I almost question if he believes if the athourity of God's word because God's word has power and as a christian we can use it knowing it is true without Cont..

  • The rich man said to Abraham, send Lazarus to my five brethern to testify so they will accept him and repent of their sins and won't to be saved from hell like me and Abraham said They have Moses and the prophets and if they hear not it is no ones fault than their own. This is so clear. At around 20:00 he said if I tell someone that there is a hell but there really isn't? Where on earth did that come from. How does the bible not state that there is a hell. The Bible that we need to Continued

  • Yes Jesus died for everybody but not everyone will accept God's gift. We are all sinners and sin is not allowed into heaven so if you are not forgiven and trust and believe that Jesus is the ONLY way you are in trouble. Hell is very real and not everyone will be there. So its about time we stop telling non believers that they will be saved in the end so keep living your life in sin but tell them the reality of hell and the truths found in the bible. Take Luke 16:27-31 Continued

  • Revelation 20:15 clearly states that if your name is not found in the book of life you are going to be cast into the lake of fire. For someone to not credit this verse has to be extremely irradical because God's work is completely true and without error. How can a believer even think that people that do not accept Jesus will be saved. That completely defeats the purpose of the cross. Though God a peroson is being saved from hell. If someone didn't accept you would you let them in your house?Cont

  • he studied hell , and never once , went to tentmaker web site , or studied the word aion/aionion , its about time this doctrine based on bad translations , that of hell was, rejected with scripture and see that God is love and it is his will that all will be saved , and all means all , try listening to despising the word of God by l ray smith

  • at 17:11 is because they (the institutional church) has changed the definition of DEATH to mean "separation" instead of "ceasing to be". Hell is cast into the lake of fire and the last enemy to be destroyed is DEATH. you have to change also what it means to perish and to be destroyed. the doctrine that every soul is eternal is false.

  • It's sad that Chan is so superstitious that he's afraid to honest about hell.

  • This my brothers and sisters is the next revival!, the doctrine of hell will not stand. God is waking up people minds to the truth. My brother Chan is starting a diologue that will eventually change the World. I realize he is not quite there but this is the generation that will crush the unscriptual doctrine of hell to the glory of God.

  • @triple1231000 that just made me sick at my stomach to read that, very grievous.

  • heavy topic, great spirit in chan. kinda got to the point around 11-12 min where i'm wondering when/if chan would turn the tables on the interviewer and start asking him questions. but hey, it's kinda the work of journalism to be like the curious kid always asking 'why?'

  • @brinkwerks OK, 22.50-23.09 the interviewer goes human, gotta respect that. good stuff.

  • 1 Cor 15:28b shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be All in All.

A.E. Knoch wrote in the 1800's

"The grand truth concerning the eonian times, now recovered from Scriptures, will relieve the minds of many noble men. So said a trained theologian, after having spent seventy years of his life without ever hearing it mentioned. NO NORMAL HUMAN BEING DESIRES TO BELIEVE IN EVERLASTING TORMENT, EVEN FOR HIS WORST ENEMY. Continued.....

  • Some of its strongest and noblest advocates have expressed their profound sorrow that they were compelled to teach it, and declared that God Himself would have it otherwise, were it in His power. Those who gloat in it and enjoy preaching it, expose the baseness of their own hearts. The fact that the Bible teaches it may demand acquiescence, but it cannot command heartfelt accord. Continued..

  • The fact that everlasting torment is contrary to God's revealed character and clashes with every human instinct does not disprove it. If God's Word teaches it, it's true. But the fact that it is repugnant, not merely to the nature we have by creation, but especially to the spirit we receive as a seal of God's salvation, should lead us to investigate the grounds on which it rests. Continued..

  • The original Scriptures are infallible, but the Bible we have is only a translation, into which a measure of human fallibility is mixed. Does the Original teach endless punishment?

From of a book by A.E. Knoch called All in All. Written nearly a hundred years ago.

What do you believe and WHY do you believe it? Be a Berean and search the scriptures. What is the truth about God's loving heart 'n nature?

IT IS FINISHED! FAITHFUL IS HE WHO HAS PROMISED! 1 Tim. 4:9-11

  • Wow.. good stuff. I appreciate that he mentioned how we often just "run to our camp" rather than actually studying. I know that I've been guilty of that...
