They don't jump. It's a myth. They just fall off the main body real easily and sometime appear on your ass, arm, leg, but usually your shoes. If your brush up against a jumping cactus odds are it will attach itself to you and you won't even know, giving it the illusion that it must have jumped on you when you wern't looking. I've lived in Tucson, AZ my whole life and hike every weekend and have been stuck plenty by these things, but they never JUMP at you. But it does seem like it sometimes.
