  • This is a Dwarven Miner Knife, all craftdwarfship is of the finest quality.

  • Absolutely gorgeous stuff. I had to go to your website and looks at what you do. A few questions though if you don't mind. How does your blades last up to today's knifes that you see in the market for combat, self defense, cooking, and bushcraft?

  • what type of metal are you using forging the billet is it high carbon steel

  • May I inquire why you chose Maple to use for the handle of the knife? Is there a particular quality of maple that is well suited for this knife?

  • So what step do you have to do to make it a +1 or +2 dagger. If possible can you make me a +3 holy avenger with the vorpal ability. HAHAHah sorry I nerded out there a bit. Awesome shop, knife, and vid.

  • do you get paid to do this?

  • quick q ,how is it 50 layers ?

  • Cool Knife, If you have questions do a search on YouTube I'm sure someone has done a video about it...

  • what is dunking the hot blade in the black oil meant to do?

  • @Turel12399 It hardens the metal by cooling it rapidly.

  • love the wood log splitter power hammer

  • Watched all of your videos...you are a true inspiration! Thank you! As now I am looking into blacksmithing and will hopefully be on track in no time!

  • Beautiful knife and nicely made video!

  • how did you guys engrave the moon runes on this knife?

  • you guys are amazing craftsmen. truly

  • ive been really wanting to make a railroad spike knife lately does any one know a way to make a cheap forge?

  • @weetoddtv Check out epicfantasy's how to forge a sword, it shows you his long forge (how to make it) and he also got a tutorial up on how to make a cheap backyard forge.

  • I would love to purchase one of your knives! Can you respond to this so I can email you questions I have?

  • what kind of acid do u use? also is it warm or room temp? having problems with my ecthing. using muriatic acid, should i use something else?

  • Great quality work!! May I ask how you get the blades surface to have the rough look? Is it the amount of layers in the billet? I'm new to forging

  • You can get borax anywhere from kmart to walmart to home depot. It is a common substance for cleaning.

I'm assuming that is what he sprinkles on the metal.

  • wow!! thats a lot of spring steel!!!!! 4:28 good job

ps: what kind of a steel you used??? (in the beginning)

  • I would love to get into this sort of thing but don't really know where to start?

    Any suggestions?

    P.S. amazing work!

  • Ya'll do an amazing job with your forge! in fact, you are the ones that inspired me to start my own forge as soon as i have the money. :), but I did have one question that doesn't really pertain to forging at all. at about 3 minutes into the video, when you are showing the handle material, there is a really cool looking pipe? who made it/where did it come from?

  • Very badass knife

  • That etching turned out crazy

  • ...speechless

I can't breathe!! Master blacksmith so young!!

  • great work, have yall ever done knifes, swords,or even axe's for movies?

  • That was awesome

  • hey i was wondering, how did u guys get a hold on some borax, or is that powder something else u guys use

  • what does R ENICO mean?

  • is the language you use on your stuff, like the front of the forge and on the knife Elder Futhark?

  • @AtomicFuryent

    Nope. Tolkien's "Moon Runes"

  • @MADdwarfWorkshop thought it might be that

  • @MADdwarfWorkshop Looks a lot like Nordic runes...

  • @MADdwarfWorkshop C'mon man. You a trust fund baby or are you gonna produce something servicible?

  • @EdwardMarshall1982 ummmmmm... What??

  • @MADdwarfWorkshop Errr...umm..sorry. This is the effect of 8 beers and multiple open tabs of the internet. So you got the wrong response and I don't even remember who I was trying to talk to. Don't drink and surf. It makes you look retarded.

  • @EdwardMarshall1982 Hahahaha! That is hilarious.

Well thank you for being honest, mature, and providing a healthy laugh about it.. ;)

  • @MADdwarfWorkshop He isn´t wrong in what he´s saying the shown ones are actually Futhark runes used by the north European peoples. Maybe Tolkien adapted these runes like he did with many more elements from the north European culture. The point is the letters are actually more than a millennium older than Tolkien´s Universe.

  • how much do you sell THIS one for i dont see any prices on your site :(

  • @spartan7777777 Email us at: MadDwarfWorkshop@gmail.com if seriously interested. We dont give out prices publicly.

  • those symblos say "mad" in Old Norse A.K.A. Viking...just thought i would let everyone know

  • Borox is used as a flux for welding

  • what do you use to etch it??

  • nice vid man hope u make more and next time can u make a sword

  • @TheGokartdude check their site they already made a bunch ^^

  • where did you guys get your log splitter and how many tonnage force is it?

  • how do you normalize harden and temper?

  • and did you put a counter bend in when you forged the edge?

  • do you just quench your blades?and did you put a counter bend in when you forged the edge?

  • do you just quench your blades?

  • It was just epic...

  • one of my preferrd vids of knife making, the pics, the music, the work... it's so inspiring =) THX a lot for sharing that vid

    greetz from germany

  • great work! and I dig your sign!

  • Oh my...Your works are soo beautyful!

    Congratulations for this art!

  • have you ever welded the billet by hand?

  • @roglet123 in won of there other vids they do

  • outstanding work

  • Nice work guys!

It's nice to see that craftsmanship lives on in our younger generation too.

Or at least you are as big of a knife and fantasy nut as me... :D

  • You guys always do really nice work. I like your posts on the forums I frequent, but seeing the process in video is always cool.

  • im tryin to make a 2 handed long sword so im trying to figure out what kind of billet to use

  • how many layers in a billet would you reccomend for a blade around 40 inches?

  • awesomely awesome

  • what is the sand used for, while you are forging the steel?

  • @guilhugas It's not sand, it's flux, usually borax. It's used for forge welding.

  • what is the use of add borax to the billet.

  • Thats sick brother well done!

  • Great stuff guys! Keep it up.

  • What kind of wire do you use to hold the billets together that doesnt instantly melt away?

  • he guy, great work! a beautyfull knife! i love it!!!!!!! respect for the "fire welding" !!!!

greatings from the founders of quality and work! :-) the germans

    best wishes from bavaria

  • is that a modified wood splitter you are using as a hammer press?

  • that was fuckng beautiful

  • Absolutely fascinating, I want one :) My birthday is coming up *wink wink* just subbed

  • very well made blade. i wish i had the tools to make these types of blades.also how did u het it to 50 layers?

  • It's great. Keep on forging.

  • how did you get the blade to look like it did at 6:00? awsome knife man! I am beginning to get into it and still have trouble with the hardening and tempering thing. and I havent been able to forge weld either but you make it look so simple. Awsome work man. What would you say the hardness of the knife is and how do you tell?

  • mate i saw many knives in my life, saw many videos about knifemaking on YT but Your works have so much spirit and soul that i am really amazed. i watched all Your video many times and that was one of the reasons i decided to show my works to a You Tube society. Regards from Poland, if You want to see few of my works please visit my profile.

  • now that is what you call skill , well done

  • is that a modified log splitter your using? if so, did you need to change the amount of pressure/force it applies?

  • that wooden sign is meeeeaaaan lookin! great videos, your artistic skills are obviously not limited to swords! great work!

  • These are not just blades, they are works of art! I love them.

to be honest the two smiths are quite cute too ;)

  • great knife man..

  • 1:22

    what is happening there?

  • Comment removed

  • I see a lot of people using power hammers of one type or another.

How necessary is one for pattern welding a billet?

  • In the best possible way: YOU LUCKY BASTARD!

  • what is happening at 4.32???

  • That's a real beauty, very pleasing seeing it come to shape. Thank's for sharing

  • this young man is a craftsman!

  • what is that i see being poured onto the blade at 1:22 and what is it's purpose?

  • i like that chile forge

  • Amazing skill and artistry. You guys are very talented.

What sort of pipe do i see @ 3:12?

  • Amazing skill and artistry. You guys are very talented.

What sort of pipe do i see @ 3:12?

  • Very beautiful work. Your pattern welding works seem to have less layers than some more extensively worked ones (there are those with 512 layers and such), but it really doesn't detract from the look. Very nice pieces no matter what.

  • what was that powder that he sprinkled on the blade at 1:26?

  • @lg3ndOneill

Quite likely ash. Smiths in the ancient times often applied ash to blades during forging to ensure that the carbon content stayed high enough. Of course, this had the understandable magical connotations to it (especially because the sciengtific processes of forging naturally weren't understood back then), and many smiths also applied other powders (dried animal horn and such) and tried to quench blades in things othern than oil or water to make them better.

  • @lg3ndOneill borax, ground (is it called pumice) wich makes a protective liquid layer around the steel so oxygen cant get to it so it wont burn when you reach welding temperature...its the same reason a welding machine uses an inactive gas to blow away oxygen

  • Why use a gass forge? More easier to use?

  • @RingLord3

Certainly easier than an ancient forge. And provides a much more stable, easier to control temperature. Plus, you can move it around if need be.

  • @Nakedspaceman1 Not as hot and more expensive though.

  • beautifully crafted. how much does one of these sell for?

  • @adversaryable

    Thanks so much!

visit our website at: MadDwarfWorkshop(dot)com for examples of prices.

in the spectrum of custom hand forged blades, we price very reasonably.

  • @adversaryable Thanks! Email us at: MadDwarfWorkshop@gmail.com if seriously interested. We dont give out prices publicly.

  • That was a beautiful knife.

  • Andy McKee?

  • wonderful!!

  • Great stuff, i love that knife. Whos the music by btw?

  • Nice work!!! Who's RENICO?

  • whowantsabighug Dwarfs used this kind of knife for slicing up their pasties and scrapeing mithril dust from under their fingernails whilst down the mine, they kept their big fighting knives and axes in lockers above ground.

  • ok...um stupid question but can someone explain folding? like whats a 50 layer blade mean?

  • @mendor612 1 fold is 2 layers, 2 folds makes 4 layers, 3 folds makes 8 layers etc

  • turned out real good! shame you didn't keep that segmented almost octagon shape in the handle from the design. i was pumped to see that. but c'est la vie i suppose

  • looks like some crazzy mythral blade

  • im ganna get a set up like this it will be getto tho lol everything is in the south

  • Is a beautiful knife! You worked well!

    What is this font?

    He ethnic?

    Whose?

  • it looks more like a utility knife than a fighting knife

  • How the hell do you do this design on the blade at 4:49 of the video !?!?

  • the blade is made up of many layers of two different types of steels, he used an acid to etch(corrode) the blade but one steel etches more than the other which shows the layers of the metals. Called Pattern Welded Steel or Damascus Steel

  • just a foot note not all pattern welded is Damascus. There are several different types.

  • wow i love it!

  • not gonna lie... bit jealous of the skills and tools...

  • Nice man.

  • ied buy one

  • What steels are you guys using in your billets? Or does is just depend on what you guys feel like using?

  • How long does it take to make something like this?

  • A W E S O M E !!!

  • the blade is absolutely amazing, nice job

  • fuckin beautiful knife dude awsome work

wish i could do this, wouldn't mind trying it actually

  • Doesn't take much to get started. All you need is a hole in the ground, a blower which could be something as simple as a hair dryer (which is what I use), something to burn in the hole, such as natural wood charcoal (watch out for the popping sparks of doom!) a hammer, regular claw hammer will work, something to beat on which could be a freaking rock (my first anvil for a few days actually) and some metal to beat, which could be an old file.

  • you should get an awsome sheath for it

  • Keep up the good work and you should go far in life. I am very impressed with how much forging you get done with a log splitter. I would not have thought it up to the task for use as a forging press.

  • OMG Awsome smithing sign!

  • WOW THAT IS REALLY AWSOME MAN !!!!!

  • AMAZING!!!

not something you see every day!!!!

    AWESOME! 5*!!

  • Great to watch! I appreciate the change of seasons pictured in your video...suggesting how much time goes into a project like this. What a "dream-shop" you've created! Great workspace and tools. Thanks for sharing what you do with such high quality video.

  • what is normalizing. and how do you do it. i have made a cuppla blades but need more info on normalizing, thanks love the knives you guys make they are sweet!

  • a very well made knife and a very nice smithy. best of luck to you may your arm grow strong by the work of your hammer and may your imagination be fabricated into the steel without fail. you will go far with pieces of work such as this

  • wow! what a piece of masterwork that is!

I'd never believe you if you'd say you aren't proud of it :D

    *****

  • im pretty sure he rigged up a log splitter to be his hammer XD!!! if so that is such an awesome idea!!!

  • VERY very very nice work.

  • fantastic really great job

  • Thank you so much!

  • What types of steel are you using for the different layers?

  • 1075 and L6. Really good high carbon tool steels with springy qualities that we love.

  • I've seen some people forge a few layers of nickle into the blade and then once they are completely done with thier knife they soak it in sulfuric acid for a few hours which exposes the nickle layers making the damascus pattern more "seeable" in the blade

  • A true work of art.

  • What do you use to temper (eg 10w30 oil) and etch the steel?

  • did you make your hydolic press

  • i believe they made the press from a log splitter but i could be wrong.

  • thats what it looks like to me also

  • I really want to do what you guys do and have always had a passion to do so but I'm really lost as to where to start and what to do as I don't have much for finances. . . any suggestions? How'd you start and what tools do you need to start with? Did you make your tools and hydolic press? If so, how did you do that? Thank you guys a lot, these videos are helping to inspire me again and I hope to hear from you

  • If you want to start forging on the cheap its always fun to start with railroad spikes. There cheap or free. you just need a forge, some sort of anvil, and some hammers.

  • dude contact your local ABANA chapter. just go to google and search ABANA chapter in whatever state you live in and you should get some contact info. also watch purgatory iron works videos

  • Thank you for making these videos.

You inspire me to keep smithing...

  • WOW! you guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome i've been waiting for this for a new vid,

    verry nice work once again

  • I was waiting for a new video, beautiful as always!! great job on that dwarven knife ;D

    greets =)

  • Awe inspiring work.

  • Damn you... Excellent montage, awesome work and really good music. Awesome skills though. Best regards from Poland, Greg
