I love Viliyats playing soo much, but I have to say all the fools that are commenting that Ravi was no good and so on are envious fools, its called "Tall Poppy syndrome" jealousy because he made a name in the west or whatever...they are so stupid they think because he was successful that gave him no credibility at all.
If he had been a poor broke semi unknown player in India, these same fools would be declaring him "The Greatest" and so on...ridiculous.
lets enjoy music!! each artist is great in his own right. some focus on gayaki some more on solo style.. some fusion... enjoy what each of these stalwarts offer. We can never aspire to reach anywhere close to any of them so rather than pass comments enjoy the magic they create.

Pt. Nikhil Banerjee - the most classical in style and rendition, of all sitarists. He is so soft and soulful. Ustad Vilayat Khan is one among the best. Pt. Ravishankar, a notch below them.
I'm quite sure Raviji is better than you. Don't compare the ustads and pandits. Have you ever listened to Ravi at Monterey Pop or any other festival in his prime? He's actually quite amazing. Today he is sadly a shade of his former self.
I am talking about the two idiots who posted at the bottom
Mituadi and Riotiticaca, no idea at all, complete fools who think anything or anyone that is successful is talentless.
You need to go and do some ear training and come back in ten years then make a comment!!
