I have found my new love. She passed Sheryl Crow on my goddess list. So glad I got introduced. She moves me and her lyrics are all the things I've felt. Like she wrote it for me personally. SALUTE
If you like Patty, check out Emmy Lou Harris (Red Dirt Girl), Lucinda Williams (Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, & World Without Tears) , Gillian Welch (Revival), Ryan Adams (Heartbreaker), & Steve Earle (Guitar Town)...
i saw patty open up for shawn colvin in 1997 (maybe earlier) and she played this song....and i was hooked...liked her better than shawn.......still can't get enough of her music
what happened to the line.."you never got within a 100 million miles of my soul?" This isn't the album version right? I'm confused. That's my favorite line of Patty's and it's not in this song...am I wrong?????
I've lost this CD twice and replaced it both times. She is amazing. If you have not heard "Sweet Lorraine" or "Time will do the talkin'" then you need to.
I know this may be odd, but I am here because of an singer who has given so much to my life. His name is Jake Walden. I have made some videos from his songs and there are lots more videos on youtube and myspace and such, but I hope you will listen. Watching this video I was reminded of Jake. The music he makes moves me in ways I rarely have found, and after finally seeing him in concert in New York, after crying my eyes out, I knew I had to do whatever I could to spead the word. So here I am
Patty is a true original. Nothing processed, nothing altered - especially on "Ghosts" - just her and a guitar. Can you imagine having her at your campfire circle with that voice and guitar? So very... elemental and quite simply, perfect.
I fell in love the first time I heard her sing, and what I love about her is her music is real and has nothing to do with sex and shaking bootie, god i'm so sick of that shit, We need more of this type of music. Every person I have let know about her music, love it too. :)
I was at a Jackson Browne concert and while waiting for him to come on came this song, and then "Rain". That was it , I was in love and have been ever since. I ran out the next day and bought a couple cd's. Patty, you keep making them and I'll keep buying them.
The chord progression right from the very beginning is downright cool. I can also feel the utter frustration this song evokes. Patty's brilliant. All soul, that one.
I don't agree with the "one-night stand" theory. This song is simply about the emptiness of a relationship and how the memories can sometimes hold you in place. Sometimes remembering is great, but mostly just painful.
She played at my store in Atlanta with Jann Arden and Billy Mann when this album first came out. She was the opener and blew everyone else away. I've been a fan ever since.
~"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."~ Hebrews 13:2 And ~"Love thy neighbour as thyself."~ Galatians 5:14 are words we are all required to live by ~ until death do us ~ join ~ again.
I second that. No hiding we've all lived our own versions of these songs. Forgiveness provides balance...maybe 'frame' is a better word to Every Little Bit so you don't drive yourself crazy.
This entire album is more than just music - it's an experience. You may think I'm cheesy or sentimental (and I probably am) but get it and try to disagree. That said - I keep watching for someone to put up "Forgiveness"....
This was the only video made for that album, and it was never released. "Forgiveness" is a blinding song that conjures a video up in my head every time I hear it. Some day, when I have the dough,I might just make that video anyway.
One other thing: people are always wishing she'd get more recognition. I don't question that she deserve it, but think how much harder it would be to get tickets to see her . . . . I've seen her 5-6 times, and every one of them has been spellbinding.
I only discovered Patty last summer when I heard Kelly Clarkson mention her and now I'm a huge fan. It's been something of a nightmare trying to get all her cds (I'm in Ireland), but now I'm awaiting the arrival of Children Running Through :) Her stuff is so inspiring it's ridiculous. Roll on a world tour!
Well, let's hope that Children Running Through is the album that launches Patty properly into the conciousness of the huge International audience she deserves.
I just love this song! So glad I found Patty Griffin. Thanks to Pandora!

First heard Patty in 1996. Every time I hear her voice it brings me back to times of good friends, good wine and a wonderful time in Sharpsburg, GA.
