Wow that child was in danger, no way is that moat sufficient to stop a tiger from escaping (obviously, as we have seen) but it's also obvious watching this video. The way you people talk about this child who was killed. First of all. The Zoo should always have caution with these types of animals. The safety of all animals and people. Number one.....the Zoo should have taken safety precautions so that no one can injure an animal and an animal can never injure a person. Bottom line people. Now leave the poor kid alone.
That zoo is awesome...I live in the bay area and have been there many times and seen that tiger exhibit..no shit ever went down until some drunk little piece of shit low life kid came in and basically got what he asked for.

Back to the main topic...I believe it was most unfortunate that this animal had to be killed...It was obvious that those guys were shooting Tatiana using slingshots, then dangling their legs, etc...at the Tiger. They messed with nature and lost. I don't believe they'll EVER TELL THE TRUTH. Only witnesses and evidence will tell the real story. The cops couldn't sit back and watch the Tiger kill another human...they had to do what was only necessary under the circumstances.

No, there was at least 1 other tiger in the cage that day. I left the zoo about 5 minutes before the attacks happened and took pictures of the tigers on my way out.

Know what you're talking about. The cops didn't "storm" the zoo. Infact, many were told to stay out because they didn't know if 1, 3 or 4 tigers had escaped. Deadly force was used to stop the tiger from attacking the victim in the cafe when it turned back towards the person on the floor.

The tiger started towards another visitor. If you are one of those sickos that say we should let animals eat people then you might as well give up now. I love the SF ZOO, I always visit the lions and tigers. I never saw any threat. They were always peaceful.
Why didn't the zookeepers/staff tranquilize this animal before the police arrived? Do they even have a policy in place for such emergencies? I never suggested its rarity suggested it wasn't a threat to humans. It is not malicious, it is a tiger. Animals don't recognize humans as some "untouchable" organism that shouldn't be attacked, it is up to us to ensure our safety from such creatures. The Dhaliwal "victims" are refusing to cooperate with the investigation. They apparently tried to remove evidence from their cell phones. Even with their friend dead, they're still more worried about covering their own butts.
What's disgusting is that their taunting of the tiger could have resulted in an actual innocent bystander or handler being attacked. Too bad Tatiana didn't manage to kill all three of these losers, as they're no loss to the genetic pool.

Wow that child was in danger, no way is that moat sufficient to stop a tiger from escaping (obviously, as we have seen) but it's also obvious watching this video. The tiger could practically jump across the thing. At least when it finally did, it got the right people. Almost - from what I understand, the one who died wasn't taunting, according to at least one witness.

I guess you forgot that when the police arrived the tiger started mauling a human again. Yeah, later we found out that the "human" was one the punks taunting the tiger, but how was the police supposed to know. What about the zoo staff? Why couldn't the zoo staff tranquilize this tiger? That zoo needs to have its big cat accreditation revoked, there is no excuse for this. They can't even keep track, they lie about 4 tigers escaping, they think the fuckwit who made the emergency call was a mental case (they were right, but it didnt mean that Tatiana wasn't rightly taking care of an important matter at that moment). That zoo is awesome...I live in the bay area and have been there many times and seen that tiger exhibit..no shit ever went down until some drunk little piece of shit low life kid came in and basically got what he asked for.
They had the requirements and everything for precautions..that tiger just had more strength then we knew..
some little shit now had to ruin it for us all...the best part of the tiger area was the open front so you could see everything...

Back to the main topic...I believe it was most unfortunate that this animal had to be killed...It was obvious that those guys were shooting Tatiana using slingshots, then dangling their legs, etc...at the Tiger. They messed with nature and lost. I don't believe they'll EVER TELL THE TRUTH. Only witnesses and evidence will tell the real story. The cops couldn't sit back and watch the Tiger kill another human...they had to do what was only necessary under the circumstances.

Know what you're talking about. The cops didn't "storm" the zoo. Infact, many were told to stay out because they didn't know if 1, 3 or 4 tigers had escaped. Deadly force was used to stop the tiger from attacking the victim in the cafe when it turned back towards the person on the floor.

In this situation, the cops had no options...after all, it wasn't like the zoo staff wasn't providing the cops with tranquilizer guns when the police arrived.

Why do you think it only attacked them and not the other people still in the zoo? Tiger was out for like an hour. It's a pretty long distance from the Tiger area to the Cafe. 1. According to a past zookeeper's and a patron's eye witness reports in the television news, the zoo knew that tigers have been able to climb out of their enclosures in the past.

even though these Tigers were taunted or whatever... those Tigers should not be able to get get out of their cages or jumpout!! they should have been 120% escape proof ... ask yourself this question... same scenario.. but you brother had nothing to do with it(taunting) and he got injured.. would you blame the kids or the zoo for not making these enclosures escape proof... these animals are like pitbulls you never know when they are going to turn on you..

the animals could not be released into the wild. they do not have the skills there.
ofcourse the zoo would release them if they could but they can't
the best that could happen is for the captive animals to breed, and then release the offspring to help the population in the wild. I totally agree that there is nothing that could replace the wild, the freedom. but the capabilities of the animals and the health must be considered.

These animals should be FREE in the WILD only reason they are in a zoo their personal JAIL is because alot of people make big bucks off them. If u really love animals don't go to a zoo where these animals are kept in jail and in some cases abused by people who see them or people who work there going to zoos only supports that.

How right you are but in a way they are Necessary evils. So many wild animals have been hunted out of the wild Zoos are some of thee only places they now exist. Take the Barbary Lion for example. Thanks to Norman Ancestors who were obsessed with hunting, and the English exported the vile sport all over the World. I am not proud of that side of my History.

zoos are reality. if you were realistic you would be an activist in pushing for improvements in zoos. maybe more room for big animals. that was a small area for a tiger. practically is a prison.

I think its pretty obvious. Her actions were purely instinctual, there was no malious. Also there are only about 500 Siberian Tigers in the wild, they are close to extinction.

Mayberry, you missed the point. People like you are a little off in left field. The fact that the Siberian tiger is rare doesn't mean it wasn't a threat to the public. IT was malicious, even if it was for good reason. It mauled an employee last year. The tiger should not be in that zoo.

I never suggested its rarity suggested it wasn't a threat to humans. It is not malicious, it is a tiger. Animals don't recognize humans as some "untouchable" organism that shouldn't be attacked, it is up to us to ensure our safety from such creatures. Perhaps the zoo should have taken more care in confining the animal. But what is the alternative, keeping no predatory animals at the zoo?

No the people don't deserve to be killed, but the people who got attacked taunted the tiger by dangling their feet and let the tiger out (they found shoes and human blood in the tiger habitat) so the tiger was just being a tiger

There's nothing wrong with zoo's. If it weren't for zoos and breeding programs chances are tigers would become extinct within the next 20 years.
Accidents happen and it is tragic what happened but even the best laid plans of mice and men go awry. Don't give up on the cause.

they breed tigers on preserves, in a much healthier environment. The zoos' exhibit the tigers for profit. There are countries that exist outside of your own where this is being done.
