I see in real life more "typically beautiful" women with average looking guys than do I see "typically gorgeous" looking guys with average women. That's because women generally go for the heart and how a man makes us feel inside whereas men generally go for how a woman makes him look to the outside world. Not always of course, but generally. So no, I find this pairing actually reflective of society in general.
