  • why is that the brominizing tablet for spas/pools and alcohol reacts to each other?? what chemical is in the brominizing tablet for spas/pools and alcohol?

  • Amazing

  • Leg

  • I believe that red fume is elemental bromine (Br2), not HBr. I have seen pure bromine, and it fumes in very much the same manner as that combination of chemicals. By contrast, solutions of either HBr or HCl do not have a great deal of color.

  • does this have a purpose? a function for the chemicals or is it just a neato way to make something boil and smoke?

  • jajaja... poor environmental! :D

  • To answer everyone's questions i shall sum this all up. The tablet he puts in the glass container is not bromine its either potassium/sodium bromide . The gas produced is Hydrogen Bromide (HBr) and the left over liquid is Hydrobromic Acid (HBr) which is extremely corrosive more corrosive than hydrohloric acid. Hope this helped.

  • @TheGermanPyro It ain't more corrosive then HCl.

  • @b1912313 It actually is when it comes to organic matter.

  • @TheGermanPyro Okay so what would inhaling the gas do to your lungs?

  • @johndoe7033 I'm not quite sure but i think it would possibly poison or liquefy them.

  • @johndoe7033 Probably edema

  • @johndoe7033 The gas would dissolve in water to form Hydrobromic Acid and your lungs would be destroyed.

  • I don't get it! :-|

  • i think i made a chemical weapon garilic powder/baking soda/bleach/vinigar/soap/drain cleaner/rubbing alchahol plz tell me wat it is it also exloded wen i took cap off it really hurt my ears also try bleach and anamonia

  • @4pikman

lol, crazy man! hows your eyes? hope alls well, but honestly why would you go back to a bottle you threw all that into? play safe now....

  • Drink up!!!!!

  • Is this an exothermic reaction?

  • ...and that how you make VX

  • Should have grinded the bromine up first, the reaction would have occurred a lot quicker.

  • Lol, think I'll try to eat a little of both, and have a big FART lol

  • @nmacgre big orange fart!

  • That is so colorful to watch! Is the resultant gas toxic?

  • i made the smart decision of swimming in a bromine pool while drinking a beer.... i got somewater in it and said fuck it, took a chug, and almost threw up... this morning was rough. and that was only with 5% beer and pool water.....

  • Tablets on a period

  • Cool

  • is that how orange crush is made?

    lol

  • Is the gas Nitrogen Dioxide? Because it does look like it.

  • @kitty6837 i believe it is bromine tetroxide. your right though, they do look the same.

  • @kitty6837 no it's actually bromine vapor.

  • Thats some really nasty fumes.

  • ffs this is why fire departments have hazt mat teams because of this idiot if u inhaled this u would die bromine itself it extremely toxic drop in and u will have to evacutae atleast your whole neoughbor hood yet this dumb ass puts it in alcohol fucksake google what can happen to u if u inhale bromine .

  • @diamond19640 Considering you forgot everything in english class, I don't think that you know quite what you're talking about.

  • @diamond19640 Lol, it's funny that your so afraid, I've done this particular experiment before and believe me, it's pretty low on the danger level, it does make a very loud boom if you put in a bottle though... I've even had the unpleasant experience of walking into a lingering cloud of the gas. It burns, but that's about it.

  • mmm it turned into orange juice

  • what would happen if i breath that orange gas?

    sorry my english...

  • r the fumes toxic????

  • @khepera12 Yes, very much so

  • It looks like lava .

  • what i learnt from this vidoe

dont go for a swim after you have had alcohol

  • this is a really neat reaction to watch.. id like to test the alcohol before and after the expiriment. bromine is already a fuming halogen.. now im sure there is residual brominated compounds in the alcohol, and impurities from the scorch.. but im willing to bet the reaction fumed the majority of bromine out of the solution. and if so, we saw the compound broken down, released bromine into liquid, and then 'pushed' out of the alcohol in gaseous form?

  • hmmmm... how they made the effect in the old superman film...?

  • when bromine is at room temperature is a nonmetal liquid that gives out a horrible smell as well as a reddish smoke.

  • he is experimenting with nova 6!!!!!

  • @slipsonic Nova Gas is yellow.

  • @chwergy In the campaing it's green

  • The description of the video is completely wrong. Bromine is a yellow-red liquid. He is using a white tablet of only-god-knows-what.

  • @drminatti huuuuh?!

  • That orange gas looks good for your lungs...

  • @Donkumbia94 I know you prob know but bromine gas is poisonus

  • @Donkumbia94 really????

  • do you know the chemical equation for this?

  • now you need sodium bicarbonate to neutralize that strong ass acid

  • wait im confused in the desrciption is it safe or not?

  • Looks poisonous.

  • Out of literal curiosity. How is the reaction turned into Hydro-bromine? <---Going to Chemistry courses soon. Easier to learn from chemists themselves. :)

  • Sublimation. Men I love Chemistry

  • BROMINATING! lol

  • Holy-Terrorist:>*=* isopropanol brominated!

  • Can I snort it?

  • would someone please explain the violent chemical reaction that takes place upon mixing pool chlorine powder with brake fluid ? it turns like 5 different colors then bursts into flames like it was a pile of gunpowder all while a thick white plume of smoke bursts from it ???

  • now breath thoses fumes. take a nice big tug

  • The only give away that there is definitely bromine in there is the yellow-orange fumes released....

  • Bromine is used in USA as an additive in almost every food we eat. Wake up people !!!

  • Bromine is used in USA as an additive to almost every food we eat. Wake up people !!!

  • @PalmBeachSOS The element bromine is not added. In mountain due, there is a brominated vegetable oil. It helps to keep the suspension. I haven't seen it in any other foods list.

  • lol then at the end someone put there head over it and *BOOM* it gose haha

  • Looks like my urine sample.

  • Could this be used inside a volcano for a science experiment?

  • @Trinobagan1 only if you want to poison every one around you...

  • hm....its a bit....but just a little bit....toxical ?

  • i'm so setting this off in my school

  • so you pissed un a cup and put it a couple of Alka seltzers?

  • That would be funny to throw in a pool. XD

  • Pretty!

  • someone mind explaning why it reverts to yellow?

  • @jaeser2

    Maybe the colourful gas escaped?

  • @QZaman91 na it was in a sealed bottle but i think it's because there was far more alcohol than bromine tablets cuz afterwards i added some more and it stayed the same color of redish orange.

  • @jaeser2

What are then orange fumes flying away.

  • @jaeser2

What are them orange fumes flying away? It doesn't look sealed to me :/

  • YES.. it is a burn

YES.. put it in a bottle and bomb someone

    YES..It will melt glass

YES.. it is perfectly safe, kids do this at home..

    ''The mind of a morron :) ''

  • pure aids

  • bromine+alcohol= super chill

  • i guess the orange gas isnt very pleansant

  • this guy stopped producing children!!!!

  • Isn,t Bromine supposed to be liquid, sometimes solid? (and kinda metallic looking if solid)? How come urs is white block?

  • @rolingpingu it's a bromine salt i think like NaBr or something

  • @jaeser2 :O I see

  • @rolingpingu i think it's sodium hypobromite

  • @rolingpingu its not pure bromine its bromide its got powdered bromine and chlorine and other stabilizers about a 60/20/20 mix respectively

  • @rolingpingu

its pool supplies pretty much. Just like chlorine is a gas, but you can buy tablets.

  • @rolingpingu its a pool tablet.not the raw stuff.its still bromine

  • @rolingpingu its a block of sodium bromide, still bromine just in a compound form, the bromine is released as a orange liquid and brown gas

  • @starshock01 no shit?

  • @rolingpingu It's not pure bromine, it's a bromine salt tablet for pools and spas

And no, bromine is a liquid with vapor rising off the top at room temperature.

  • @Altoclarinets Ok, well I saw on wiki that if u manage to make it solid, I'd look metallic. Though, that doesn't mean that is for room temperature, as u said

  • @rolingpingu it's not pure bromine. That's partially why the reaction wasn't instant.

  • @rolingpingu its like a chlorine tablet, its not pure bromine its a mix

  • @rolingpingu Its a liquid at room temperature (a volatile one mind you, it sublimates) but that reaction produces enough heat to vapourize it completely.

  • @rolingpingu Ok ok ! XD I got it, it's a bromine salt, I got it! Lol

  • @rolingpingu no bromine is a brown liquid that evaporates in to a orange gas

  • @rolingpingu you fucking dumbass lol, the bromine is the brown gas liberated from the reaction. It is normally a liquid but since the reaction is exothermic it is hot enough to be produced as a gas. And Bromine is halogen, a non-metal it has no metalic properties at all even as a solid.

  • @OrgSynthJosh Man, I said "metallic-looking" not with its proporties. But XD man, I've recieved like 50 responses to this. The most saying the block is a bromine salt. I'm like "OK I got it!!". The thing is I was confused bcuz the title claims it's alcohol and bromine. And the block was solid! But once again, it seems it,s a bromine salt.

  • it's just a tablet for a pool/ hottub... i have them at home. Just like chlorine tablets that you can get for pools (and chlorine is supposed to be a gas). It's not pure bromine it's some sort of compound...

  • @rolingpingu Potassium Bromide. It's used in sanitizing pools. The alcohol releases the bromine from the salt in the reaction.

  • @rolingpingu: It's a compound of Bromine for use in cleansing spas of algae. Probably something like Bromo Dimethylhydantoin, which will react with alcohol.

  • Comment removed

  • @jjunit207 bromine is a liquid, chlorine is a gas

  • @GemoVII haha damn ur right

  • @rolingpingu thats a brominating agent, like a pool chemical of some sort, not elemental bromine, and bromine is a red/orange liquid at room temp that is hilghly volatile and toxic. Iodine, is what is a solid and more blackish metalic looking...

  • @rolingpingu the one hes using is used in spas and pools

  • @rolingpingu The guy is probably using Bromochloro-5 tablets. It's not elemental bromine, that's why it starts as a white block.

  • Rolingpingu, the white block that he has there isn't 100% bromine. It actually has a few other chemicals in it to keep it a solid and yes, you're right, generally when bromine is (occasionally) a solid, it does look somewhat metallic. Bromine tablets are typically 1-bromo-3-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin. If you wish to know what these chemicals are then just do a simple search on Google or whichever search engine you prefer (though the definition is just as confusing). I hope this helps you!

  • @rolingpingu Bromine tablets are in fact blocks of hydrogen bromide compounds,to prevent it from reacting in air and water if it were to be pure( i think)

I could be wrong, but definitely more right than wrong at least

  • @Infocollective22 Nope. Read the label.

  • @rolingpingu that was cocaine my friend...

  • Ive never seen white, solid bromine before.

  • @PissOutMyAssBarf

huh...spent 1 minute googling and they do exist. Well Ill be...

  • @PissOutMyAssBarf its tablet to pool ;)

  • Thats how Jesus did it.

  • is that Chlorine

  • lol it made a earth quake

    or red label

  • dont breathe that in unless you want to become infertile...no seriously dont.

  • Yay for life threating gases!

  • i guess this is the cause of 9/11.

  • breath in heavily my children

  • :) This was scientific!

  • people hate this comment..

  • Hahahaha it wet itself at 0.36

    lol

  • Hahahaha it wet itself

    lol

  • NO... you are not Humane

NO... you are just POnkey Blal

NO... you should continue eating nshit

  • bull shit ,its a burn

  • Is the red stuff liquid bromine?

  • I didn't see any bromine at the beginning of this video. I saw bromine being produced though. You should probably clarify that.

  • it acidic when it turns a color

  • cool! what if in a sealed container? BOOM?

  • Do you know the chemical reaction formula for this? Also what type of alcohol are you using?

  • What kind of reaction is that ? Is it a nucleophil substitution ?

  • you freakin stupid.that gas is highly toxic.your lucky you didn't die!

  • will it hurt to get the smoke in your eyes or breathe it?

  • i laughed really hard at your description.

  • u should rename this solid vs liquid. lol sweet experiment!

  • Would you like a dab of lemon, or perhaps some ice?

  • Cool video, bromine.

  • very cool :D what kind of gas is that? Br?

  • may i ask were did you get the bromine from?

  • What tha hell is bromine

  • its tear gas

  • so is the remaining liquid still alcohol?

  • @locouk New element called Liquiddeathium

  • THAT LOOKS EPIK

  • That looked like a marshmallow being disintegrated by the magic of unicorn urine.

  • Comment removed

  • That shits deadly

  • wow that's really cool!!! so it goes from yellow to red back to yellow .. craaaaaazyyy

  • i dare you to sniff it....

  • HOW TO MAKE FING TEAR GAS SLASH NERVE GAS

  • where the fuck did u get bromine?

  • that gas is poisonous i beleive

  • What happens if I inhale that red smoke?

  • isn't it really toxic?!

  • Your drink is ready, sir.

  • @0verunity no

  • @guachipiruli LOL you tool! the amount of carbon produced by the plant powering the server storing your comment was more damaging to the environment then that experiment, QED you are killing the planet too

  • thats high toxic

  • idk why but i felt sick after watching this video :O

  • Neat fact about bromine: It is used to make Brominated vegetable oils which allows soft drinks with oil(such as citrus oils in Mountain Dew and other citrus drinks) to mix with the the drink.

  • damn we could heat water or something and stop buying oil and save some fuking money

  • Orange smoke shit, don't breathe this!

  • Holy crap!! im a huge pyro, but i wouldnt even mess with bromine! its so toxic.

  • @guachipiruli ozone depletion is mostly caused by chloroflourocarbons (CFC's) you retard. CO2 etc just traps light energy but does not cause damage to the ozone, that why its called global warming.

  • awesome thats awesome but i cant do it because im in egypt but i cant buy bromine its not avalible in our country but this mix is brilliant

  • That's awesome!

  • Youtube is awesome when people know Chemistry.

  • plainly obvious that you have fast-forwarded this video... the real reaction wouldn't be as 'exciting'

  • drink it drink it

  • hahahahahhaha "Now drink it" xD!!!!!!!!! best freaking comment ever

  • Now drink it

  • @ngswimmer08 Oh SHNAP!! Dey just went there XD

  • what a waste of alcohol!!!!!
