I liked everything about XIII except maybe the story and how linear it was. The visuals are STUNNING and the soundtrack is beautiful! Characters were alright, gameplay was great.

If u were given a choice to play a few hundred hrs into a game many people would choose not to. Not because they dont like the story, but because they have to wait forever to feel like they accomplished something. People like that instant gratification. Young people and old people all the same.

playing games that take 50-60-70hrs just to get to the end doesnt fit into my schedule anymore. I cant come home from school and play for 7-8hrs a night every day and no life it. But if I can come home jump in a game for an hr or so and get to see all the new cool stuff thats what ill do. Or ill jump on COD and play some matches online on that. People are evolving. They have decent storylines to keep playing but arent overly long to where if u were given a.
Fact is, if you want to play a game with a story look into getting some of the older games and play them again. If you want to help the franchise stay alive keep buying their games. If you are unhappy with the direction the games are heading. Tell them. But most people like the games. They are easy to pick up and jump into. They have a moderately short playtime unlike my 140hrs into FFX or 73hrs into FF7. But im not a kid anymore. Playing games like that...
@KenpaZara If you look at Skyrim, it's a single player game with a lot of success. Which really tells that the single player games or games that are story-driven is not dead. It feels like that gamers nowadays are simply lazy and wants to play games that are easy to pick up or not so much "restricted" to following a story or a plot like traditional RPGs.
BTW, when I played Legend of Dragoon, it was only an okay game bc of its FF competition. Only part I liked was the timing attacks.
They do have mild story lines yes. However look at the average persons attention span. This causes the story lines to suffer. You think people would actually play a 2-3 disk game (4-7 on xbox)? Most likely not. I just finished playing Legend of the Dragoon. I think its amazing with a really good storyline and good character building.
Its a game I played when I was younger. People dont have the attention to play games like that anymore.
@KenpaZara Part 2 =). But I mean for what you said about time spans of games, a traditional RPG, yes takes up at least 40-50 hours minimum. But the game is not asking you to play 5-8 hours a day, whereas you can play 1-2 hours and continue the next day. Similar to playing a COD multiplayer match, the time that you "add-up" playing will probably be more than an entire RPG game.
@alexn168 - The only real way for a company to grow is to change. They are trying to attract a HUGE fan base. They have expanded to the world of MMO's. You also need to consider they have to keep up with action based games. Such as the call of duty franchise and battlefield franchises. Which shows people are playing the game for the action in it. Most people who play those games dont even play the story mode.

@KenpaZara It is sad that you feel this way, but I can understand this is how the gaming industry is changing. Like you said, most games that are released now are focused towards the multiplayer part and the main story is heavily ignored like the most obvious COD and shooters. I feel that since the MMO genre, gamers are leaning towards multiplayer or co-op games and that video games as a whole should not be a sing player experience. For example, Left 4 Dead's main story is focused towards coop.
@DevilElite1 If they're making games that are appealing to as many as they can, then they're probably doing it for the ones that actually like the series. It doesn't really matter about reviews on it, just your playing experience. Why should someone get fired for people who don't play all of their games and like them?

Just played the demo. Pretty good overall. The only problem I have with it right now is the crystarium, because it's pretty much a downgraded version of 13. You can't choose which technique to learn when advancing paradigm classes, the game chooses for you.
A massive improvement on XIII, great to see them listen to some of the fans in regards to towns, side quests and NPC's... It's all part of the roleplaying lol
Still not too happy with a battle system that has auto battle or only allows you to control only one character but meh I've played every Final Fantasy and i'll be getting this one too.

@alexn168 you obviously know nothing about square at all. Squaresoft and SquareEnix are just different branches of the same company. Do you really think that Square would let a new company start making games for them? With a similar name? The answer is no, there is no reason to continue the game line. Unlike with activision who owns the call of duty franchise who has different developers working to make it. Look it up on wikipedia you will find squaresoft and squareEnix are much the same.

I wont lie, they fixed alot of game play issues and this looks like alot of fun, but my biggest problem with 13 wasn't the gameplay so much as it was the annoying as hell characters.
It seemed like everyone other than Sazh and maybe Fang was just really unnatural and overly melodramatic and unless these two characters stories are written better I'll probably just end up hating this one too.
Keep saying that..even after they announced KH 3D and that they won't make KH3 until Versus 13 is released..just ignore them and continue, maybe something will happen..not.
This is very fun to play; I liked XIII but this by far is an improvement. Everyone bitched about no towns and NPC's to talk to: they have that. The whole action button stuff does feel gimmicky but overall it is very fun to play.

This demo is the best! I adored ff13, and once i played the demo, i had no regrets as to pre-ordering it! Linearity doesnt exist in the game, awesome puzzles, NPC's, Towns and side-quests. AWESOME!!!

@nikkik5011 They didn't. Her character just has a much much smaller role (along with Fang) since they're both crystal now. The girl you play as is Sarah, Lightning's sister, and she joins with a boy called Noel (who comes from the future).
The game isnt in the demo section. Why isn't it!? When I click game market in the featured it says try the new demo final fantasy xiii-2 I click on it, when it gets to the game details the only thing there is RATE. Why isn't there a download option!? I'm on xbox 360 and I live In Florida.
The demo is so fucking awesome. Once you play it you see the improvements instantly. The worlds are 10x immersive now and feels like a real solid RPG. It remains me of FF XII because the certain soundtrack they use in the town and the town NPC maps. It just so much better.

@Zusokami I had trouble with a lot of combat, so I started using Synergy at the start of battles with Ravager and Commando. That's when things got slightly easier.

If you don't like FFXIII or (""-2) then shut the hell up and go play something else. I'm tired of people talking so much crap about a good game. Sure it's different, yes FF6,7,8,10 whatever was amazing and things wont live up to it (to your standards) but it's another great Square Enix game. Period. Not one of my personal favorites but again like all FF games, they are 10000x better than the crap some companies spit out each year and call it "gaming" *cough cod *cough. It had beautiful animation, great story, and a overall blissful experience that really wrapped you into the story. Well I guess that describes all FF games haha.

Why play an RPG that you have no choice in any matter? hell you cant even choose what characters can do what rolls, everythings preset and shitty, its more like your just watching a game and pressing X to continue the FMV along.. Not worth the 60$ in my opinion. Why not try thinking for yourself for once instead of being mesmerized by shinny shit and look at how terrible they have made FF.

@ButcherGod You DO realize if they were to modernize FF7 the game would be about 3 disks long (4+ for xbox) and not many people would buy it. Cause I can go down take it out put it in my ps3 and play it. If you want a remake buy the original. Or dont buy games. A remake of a prior game would be costly and not many people would buy it.
While u think its all amazing because when you were a kid it was just cooler than sliced cheese. The game had its time and its over. Accept change or stay behind

Just played the demo. Pretty good overall. The only problem I have with it right now is the crystarium, because it's pretty much a downgraded version of 13. You can't choose which technique to learn when advancing paradigm classes, the game chooses for you.

A massive improvement on XIII, great to see them listen to some of the fans in regards to towns, side quests and NPC's... It's all part of the roleplaying lol
Still not too happy with a battle system that has auto battle or only allows you to control only one character but meh I've played every Final Fantasy and i'll be getting this one too.

@alexn168 you obviously know nothing about square at all. Squaresoft and SquareEnix are just different branches of the same company. Do you really think that Square would let a new company start making games for them? With a similar name? The answer is no, there is no reason to continue the game line. Unlike with activision who owns the call of duty franchise who has different developers working to make it. Look it up on wikipedia you will find squaresoft and squareEnix are much the same.

I don't know the exact details like you do, but from my experiences playing their games, the games from the old company was far greater than this new crap. I realize that they are changing the game style to incorporate more new gamers to the RPG franchise (by adding in new graphics, more "action stuff instead of being heavy story driven), but it's pissing off a lot of dedicated RPG games like myself b/c of these changes.

I wont lie, they fixed alot of game play issues and this looks like alot of fun, but my biggest problem with 13 wasn't the gameplay so much as it was the annoying as hell characters.
It seemed like everyone other than Sazh and maybe Fang was just really unnatural and overly melodramatic and unless these two characters stories are written better I'll probably just end up hating this one too.

This is very fun to play; I liked XIII but this by far is an improvement. Everyone bitched about no towns and NPC's to talk to: they have that. The whole action button stuff does feel gimmicky but overall it is very fun to play.

This demo is the best! I adored ff13, and once i played the demo, i had no regrets as to pre-ordering it! Linearity doesnt exist in the game, awesome puzzles, NPC's, Towns and side-quests. AWESOME!!!

I hope nobody buys this. They need to freaking learn to listen to their fans and finish Versus 13 so they can start on KH3. I mean come on, I was so happy to get FF13 but it was a completely disappointment but I was like "meh, at least they'll start working on versus again", I even remember them saying they did. @GearRedd It's not even the same team. They are working on Versus 13. XIII-2 is proof that they listen. Obviously A LOT of people liked 13 enough for it to have a sequel. Versus is probably taking longer because all the FF fans do is complain so they have to keep changing stuff. Honestly. Stop anticipating Versus. What keeps everyone from hating it when it comes out after all the hype? It'll be 13 all over again.

@tiamod That's the problem, SE has everyone working on a whole bunch of different games hopping to a new one each time. They need to get everyone to work on one big game together instead of churning out crappy games at a faster rate. A LOT of people might have liked FF13 but A LOT of people were also disappointed, the majority didn't even end up buying it. The reason Versus is taking so long is because of how big the game is, which is why they need to make the team bigger. What did they change?

@nikkik5011 They didn't. Her character just has a much much smaller role (along with Fang) since they're both crystal now. The girl you play as is Sarah, Lightning's sister, and she joins with a boy called Noel (who comes from the future).

The demo is so fucking awesome. Once you play it you see the improvements instantly. The worlds are 10x immersive now and feels like a real solid RPG. It remains me of FF XII because the certain soundtrack they use in the town and the town NPC maps. It just so much better.

@Killzor97 I agree, final fantasy got dull since 10, 10-2 got worse, ff 12 was fanfiction (i loved the gameplay but the storyline was dull and didnt made much sence).
ff13 was just a linear game where u just press X, grind when u cant go on and there was the worst ff character (Vanille (my oppinion)) (even though i thinck sazh is the best)
My conclusion, get back to ff 9 or 7, start over, LISTEN TO US, PLAYERS!!!

(mainly cause i ddint know it existed until i got to grand pulse) its not immersive at all! you just go into a menu, tap l1 or r1 w/e button libra was, look at their weakness and sapm it. or just grind out lighitng, hope, fangs main roles and ul be set cause their the strongest. the rest of the charachters are usless

@Fish61324 whoah hold down ur horses!! When i say the game is only "press the X button" i mean press the X button MOST times on the game, because most fights don't need much strategy when you get full crystalium to defeat certain bosses.
I am not a FFVII fanboy, I bought the game recently from PS3 store and I havn't finished it yet.
I Don't like FFX that much because of the storyline (headhache)

@Zusokami Well, I think that it actually lacks hard enemies, the ones you found regularly were too easy, only the ones in cieth stones became more of a challenge. Of course it all depends on your level.

@Lorfmor that would imply that ALL of the great games we played in the past, are bad games, so, zelda, mario, mortal kombat, street fighter, final fantasy I-VI at the least, are all bad?
i think i speak for everyone here that graphics aren't all, bad graphics, but an awesome story, great features and good, appropriate music makes a great game, though shame for the graphics, but totally worth it
