Ismael, y Cortijo, dictando catedra con la BOMBA puertorriqueña. Y no podemos olvidar a su primera trompeta y arreglista Quito Velez. Bravos de Verdad.
at the time it was Bomba, Plena, Merengue, Guaracha, etc. then, in 1969 when I started playing in the streets of The Bronx, New York, I started yelling "Salsa!! and the"Frase" and then everybody started using and made it as "theirs" It is sad that I did not made it my own by registering in Washington D.C. Well..the rest is just history,
cortijo y melo dos dioses, cuando murio el maestro cortijo en melo murio much de si.... cuando murio el maestro se llevò la llave........ Maelo siguiò pero la mitad de èl murio con cortijo vivan por siempre los dos ECUAJEY
Its great to really know where salsa came from. I think anyone who really wants to know the true history of the music, needs to know where it came from first.
ohhh my god!!!! you need to be more informed about salsa!!!!!! what are you talking about!!!! sonora matancera? Roberto Faz??? jajajaja I am not gonna say where salsa began... Im gonna let you study it!!!!
Look man I hope you ain't trying to get to that point of "Salsa is from Africa bullshit". If you are, well, the human race has its origins in Africa, too. With this said, I have never seen or heard an African group older than the aforementioned play the kind of music they call salsa. However, Roberto Faz, Benny More, La Sonora Matancera, Conj. Casino, Cachao, Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, ya tocaban la musica que 20 years later they would call salsa.
But Tito Puente considered his music to be composed by Cuban Rhythms (Mambo, Cha Cha Cha etc.) watch his interview. Tito Rodriguez interpreted mambos, cha cha chas, guarachas, boleros, y una que otra Bomba/Plena. Benny More: Son. Roberto Faz, Casino & Sonora Matancera: Guarachas, Arsenio Rodriguez: Son Montuno. And then comes Larry Harlow and Johnny Pacheco playing son montuno y musica de Charanga and all of a sudden it changes the name to Salsa? Give me a break!!!
@Tropicoco123 Don't forget Willie Colon and MI IDOLO Hector LaVoeee incorporating Yomo Toro with the cuatro and mixing the jibaro sound with the New York salsa sound of the 70s! Outta sight!!
Whatever man. Willie Colon appeared in the scene in the late 60's. The people I mentioned above had been playing since the mid 40's. Y dejame decirlo de nuevo pa'l que sea nuevo en este sito. Esto no es Salsa....esto es Bomba.
Y el tema en este video ain't "Salsa" it's Bomba. So instead of getting technical about the beginning of percussion, how bout you help erradicate that thought that most people have about latin music. Salsa?? What the Fuck is Salsa? An easy way out for those that can't differentiate between caribbean rhythms.
@Brunochicho ESO SI QUE ERA MUSICA COMO LO DICE EL COLEGA , NO COMO HAORA QUE TODO ES PERREO Y PERREO . QUE DESCANSE EN PAZ ISMAEL RIVERA , ACUERDENSE PARA TODOS LOS IGNORANTES EL ERA Y SEGURA SIENDO EL SONERO MAYOR . ECUAJEYYYY .

There's no clave, no conga tumbao, no piano montuno, no cascara, no bongo martillo. So how can this be the beginning of Salsa.
The true beginning of salsa is found in Cuban son/guaracha. Look for Roberto Faz, or Sonora Matancera.

All I need to dance what they call Salsa is la clave y el tumbao de la tumbadora. Estos dos son oriundos de Cuba.
Back to the video, It's Bomba played by Cortijo y Maelo.
