The other night my dad shared this video with me. He said that this video was pretty much my hole life so far, just giving out lolly pop's. I never thought about it much before till he showed me this video and it gave my actions a good name and that was "handing out Lolly Pop's". I just shared this movie on Facebook as in hope more will watch it.
How can someone say " merely impacting someone's life"??? The message is about power and transformation in the expression of leadership through ones daily life and interaction. A core idea that certainly was not missed is that leadership is more about who you are everyday rather than an exercise you need to pull off to meet deadlines. That's why the speaker does not recall the event...he was being himself...and that was powerful enough to transform one person's life ...should I add "merely"?
I find these talks inspiring and emboldening. However, all these supposed "experts" on leadership are lacking. No concept is probably more discussed and researched, yet less understood, than leadership. How does a supposed leadership speaker omit core ideas of power, influence, vision, charisma, LMX, adaptation, or transformational leadership? Having a "lollipop" moment is not the leadership process of influencing a group of people towards a common goal; it is merely impacting someone's life.
That was surprisingly inspirational. I am not aware of any lollipop moments in my life yet, but now that I have been so vividly explained their effects I will do what I can to stay generous, stay helpful.
Wow everyone! Thank you so, so much for all the wonderful words! I just wanted to share that we've created a place to share your own "lollipop moments"! If you type in mylollipopmoment (all one word) into google, you'll find it! Second one down!
Wonderful. I lost my Uncle who was a priest a few months back. He was just like you. He could cause a room of strangers to feel togetherness & humanity - this is your gift & it is just wonderful that you are out there doing it, living it & spreading the possibilities. Lollipops rock! Thank you... x
I saw Drew speak at a small leadership conference for students. After his speech I approached him and got his undivided attention. What an amazing man. I plan (as a student council member) to have him come speak at my school, and watching this video gets me giddy with excitement. Drew Dudley is a hero.
The reason WHY we don't tell people about how they change our lives is that to do so says that we were in a submissive way at some point in the past, and that affects our psychology negatively. It opens up the possibility that we could be in a submissive position in the future, and that is psychologically unsettling (consciously and unconsciously).
That is why being able to make people laugh is cheap but valuable: Because it is not offensive in a violent way. Laughter is what connects us.
He gave the same story when I was at TEDxIBYork, later that evening, I made a point of finding him afterwards and we actually talked about life and philosophies for about two and a half hours. Drew is an incredibly fascinating and inspirational man, and I feel very fortunate to have been inspired by him.
