Indeed these are acrylics, once upon a time this technique was done in oil but acrylics dry much quicker allowing more coats in a shorter period- so for professional work the move has been to waterbased (healthier and better for the environment as well), and with a varnish over them will last far longer than oils.
when you say marbling gell do you mean scumble glaze? im doing some in college im doing painting and decorating.how come you dont mix the scumble with the pigament
marbling is originally named as "ebru" in turkish and this is a turkish art(ottoman)

its acryclic scrumble glaze,i believe being acrylic.marbling should be done oil based much better finish,and it lasts longer
