the reason it sounded awful over the phone was because most people probably were listening on cell phone, or you used your cell phone to record it, or both. cell phone technology uses lossy compression, but it's optimized for voice transmission, so music over a cell phone always sounds like crap. it's not the phone, the music (usually), or the connection ... it's the technology. it's why hold muzak is even more annoying on a cell.

coming from someone that both plays wind instruments and sings barbershop... learn breathing gym exercises... and really just practise doing a lot of hangers... the expanded lung capacity just comes with time.
@TheDarkDimensions Don't worry, I tried to hold it out for that long, only got 25 seconds in. :P 1 tip: If you sing quieter, you won't use up as much air, but when singing loud, your air depletes quickly.

hahah, too bad about the message not working. I have a suggestion that seems to work great on a good percentage of callers... that is, IF your answering machine just goes straight to your voice (and not the woman who says "I'm sorry, but ___ yada yada"):
I used to have one where I had the phone on the desk when in starts recording, and scooped it off (to sound like I was picking up the phone in a rush) and answered "Hello?-hello?" really quick. wait a second.. long enough for a response, then say "Oh hey man, what's up?" and would continue on, with a pause in between everything. it sounded something like this:
Hey Danny, very well done. How can you hold the note for such a long time?

hahah, too bad about the message not working. I have a suggestion that seems to work great on a good percentage of callers... that is, IF your answering machine just goes straight to your voice (and not the woman who says "I'm sorry, but ___ yada yada"):

I used to have one where I had the phone on the desk when in starts recording, and scooped it off (to sound like I was picking up the phone in a rush) and answered "Hello?-hello?" really quick. wait a second.. long enough for a response, then say "Oh hey man, what's up?" and would continue on, with a pause in between everything. it sounded something like this:
