The water effect did not help to sell it. I would have gone for not so violent shaking and have wisps of steam and perhaps a couple of sparks (electric lines broken) coming from the pavement crack. A video clip always looks better using the "less is more". Good work, though.

The fault that runs through Tennessee and Missouri would probably result in a quake along the mountain ranges since it's the meeting of two stable land masses. Not what has happened in Haiti where the island is a virtual volcano since all three fault lines meet at one point. Therefore I think Tennessee is only gonna shake a little not blast open.

I think what is being referred to here is the New Madrid fault line. Which, if a devasting earthquake were to occur, then 60% of Memphis would be destroyed. So I assume that's why Memphis is displayed here.

Yeah, this was all based on a still photo, which was then broken up into layers in Photoshop. The gravel from the explosion is a few instances of Particle Playground with a Bevel Alpha put on them. The telephone cables are mask lines with a stroke effect on them.

If you're gonna use a picture depicting New Madrid, don't use a city background. New Madrid is the farthest thing from a city. It barely qualifies as a town. It's just some no place in Missouri remembered for an earthquake two hundred years ago. The town has never recovered.
