Great editing, all I could think the whole time was separate the boys and girls STAT! lol. Such a great video thanks for posting and the time u took to make it.
i have some new 6 week old mica and they don't seem to have been handled very much. whats the best way to tame them and get them to actually WANT to come and say hello?
Ahhh. So sweet. I'm hoping to get two female mice tomorrow, but I'm secretly hoping that one is a MALE!! Or one is just "Accidently" Pregnant. Soooooo cute. Bet they're easily tamed at that young age? :)
I use to have mice. Always had two girls so they wouldn't reporduce but, as I learned at a VERY young age, its very hard to tell the sex of a mouse! It was a joy raising litters though :) I miss em!
THAT WAS THE BESSST VIDEO EVER! mum wont let me have a mouse so i like looking at mice videos, call me weird but then i would have found this one! how did you save them from a zoo? the daddy must have been brown thats why the kids are brown. aww you are SO luckyy. that was the BEST VIDEO EVER! 5 stars an in my TOP FAVOURITES!! xx
this is a beautiful video. seriously, it's te best video on youtube!! mice are so cute (have 3 of them myself, one is pregnant, unwanted) and they make awesome pets.
we kept just 2 of the babies, and the rest we gave to a pet store we trust, so they have enough space, and also now we have a safer wheel:) thanks for caring!
aww so cute. i have 1 mouse and its 100% pregnant. i thought it was obese at first but i was wrong. I dont have a water bowl cuz the mice will tip it, instead i have a container and the mouse sucks the water out of it.
of course i didn't get rid of it, the other one was there all the time, helping the mom with the babies. now we have for of them, all girls, so no more babies.
The mice in our classromm are about this age now. The mother gave birth to seven about 3 weeks ago. There were 4 brown ones and 3 black ones. The problem is, there are only six now! You can expect that in a classroom full of seventh graders :[ Unfortunately, one went missing today before the begining of class...Do you know where a mouse 3-4 weeks old would hide?
They usually hide in the dark places behind the big furniture, like bookshelves, cupboards or closets, so try looking there. And try to set up a trap (not a one that would kill him, only safely capture him!) and leave some food in, he'll most likely find the food when he gets hungry. And try not to hurt him cos at this age they are very fragile, and they also tend to jump. One of our babies escaped at one point and we found him behind the bookshelf and safely caught him, hope you'll manage too!
Thank you very much! He wasn't completely weaned yet, so do you think he can manage with no milk? We put out some food and water, and I will talk my teacher into getting a couple 'safe' traps.
Hopefully he didnt get out of the classroom, because the school is huge!
I think he'll be able to survive for at least a while on his own if you provide him with some soft food he's able to chew on. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you to find him!
And also you should make sure to separate boys from the girls when they're 5 weeks old. Did you decide if you're going to adopt some? :)
My mouse just had a litter of 9 [or more, 9 is all I counted before mom tried to eat my hand off! ;)] this morning. As far as I know, they are all perfectly healthy and should grow up to good homes. I saw you have two food bowls... What all do you feed your mice? I feed mine some crushed up bread and nuts, bits of apple and celery [as a treat] and they regularly get bird seed that my parrot eats, they seem to be enjoying it, I'm just curious.
First of all make sure not to disturb them or the nest for at least 2.5 weeks, cos if the mom gets nervous she might kill them...
About the food, it seems you're feeding them perfectly :) In stead of bird seeds you may get them a specialized mixture for rodents. When the babies start eating something other then their mom's milk just make sure to add something soft that they can chew on, like bread soaked in milk.
I might make some videos, just can't yet... Mom's very protective. I have a few more questions if you don't mind.. :\
Is it normal to hear a lot of squeaking coming from the cage? It just makes me wanna go in there and check on them to see if they're okay.. D: I know their babies so it's probably normal, but I'm just wondering. Also, when is it safe to handle the babies? I've heard a number of different answers, and I wanna know when you started handling them, so I don't do it too soon. Thanks!
Squeaking is normal, it means the babies are alive and well, so no reason to disturb the nest :) Enjoy the sound, once they grow up you'll miss it :)
We started handling them when they were between 2 and 3 weeks old, but at first only for a really short time and very very carefully. Also handle the mom first, so your hand smells a bit like her:) You'll be able to judge the right moment and just take things slow:)
At what point do the babies begin to roam around the cage? Just curious. :D Also, earlier I was in to check on the babies [I just lifted the house their nest is under, not disturbing it] and the mother was out of the nest at the time. When I lifted the house, she didn't seem phased. Does this mean she's more comfortable with minor disturbances? Or could this be a sign of maybe abandoning them? I haven't and don't plan on any further 'disturbances' so..
They will start to happily explore their surroundings as soon as they open their eyes:) At this point they will also jump a lot, so be extra careful when you're handling them!
About disturbances - it depends on the mom if she's bothered or not, but it's a real risk for the litter every time you disturb the nest... I know you can't wait to see them but be patient for just a bit longer:)
I think I am going to adopt one of the babies that the mice in our science classroom had, because they are so cute!! Do all the mice in a litter usually survive? Or is there a "runt"?
Great to hear you like the video and want mice too :)
If the litter is very big and the mother young or if the conditions for the babies are not good some of them my die. This did not happen to our litter, and hopefully it will not happen to yours at school, just make sure to take good care of them :)
Also if you want to adopt a baby mouse, keep in mind that they love company and will be sad if they are alone, so the best thing is to adopt 2 baby girls :)
anything from 3 to 12 babies is normal for them:) this is really a lot and if you're not sure you can find homes for them buying 2 female mouse is the perfect solution :) if you nee any tips - just ask ;)
I haven't had such a healthy chuckle in years. Thank you for the video!
