I watch all my television on the internet too. I don't even have cable or satellite. I assume you have, since making this video, watched all 4 episodes. I thought the religion part was goofy too. As soon as people see aliens, they should be like "I see the alien therefore, I know it's real" and all religion is proven wrong (except maybe Buddhism but whatever). The new series has been "hollywoodized" more than the last series but is still more decent than most of the shows out there....
funny thing is benedict, the pope, and john paul before him both validated the possibility of life on other planets. benedict actually has setting up a study on it. the catholic church believes in evolution and chides those who don't believe in empirical reason. now that said, they believe a carpenter was god. regardless, most christian sects bleive thee bible is a metaphor and wholly innacurate in terms of scientific truth.
i avoid tv at all costs. the chick i saw who stars in it is pretty hot. regardless, the only shows i can watch regularly are sons of anarchy and criminal minds. reruns of law and order make for a good way to waste an afternoon too. won't watch it unless cable goes down and network is all i can get.
I'm really resisting the urge to comment on the hipocracy of religion here, I could blast sheepism all day long... my real comment is on V, I was a V'oholic back in 1983 when there was a 2 hour premier followed by the series... the story was slowly and purposely developed, really sucked me in, loved it... this version of V spit out ALL of the secrets in 1 pilot episode, screwed up the entire thing... bleh it wont make it past season 1 cause they already told the entire story
Sheeple! I don't watch much, but I do watch... House, Californication, Trueblood, and now V and Flash Forward. Have you checked out Flash Forward? And yes, forgetting about LOST, damn it...hurry up and get back on. =-) What about angels? Where do they fit into classification?
One thing I wonder about with this show, is: Do you think this show hasn't been launched when it was on purpose? You know, getting closer to 2012 and all. I haven't watched the show yet. But, by what you are saying happens in the show. Sounds like to me they launched this show to get people ready for what is to come. (And yes, there are going to be a lot of people on this planet that will be like that. I hate stupid people!) peace
I consider it not very probable, but still quit possible that something like that could happen. Whether it turns out to be something truly real or something made up, you can't not say that it could happen. (Expect the unexpected and life won't scare you so much.) I just have the weird feeling that something like from out of the movies is going to happen in the near future. Just can't tell if it's going to be like.........
War of the Worlds, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Independence Day, The Stand, or the Left Behind series, etc. (for me personally I'm hoping that one day before I die we'll be like the beginning of Star Trek.) peace
I liked the original V miniseries when sci-fi played it on the mid-90's and seeing it replayed again made me happy-- even if it does have HUGE doses of cheesiness littered throughout. I haven't seen the new miniseries but from the teasers I've gleaned that: A) the CGI they're using doesn't win me over and... B) Most important of all, I get the sense that WE are portrayed as sheep. Blatantly. Insultingly. I got stupidity and mob mentality from the original but not outright sheepish submission
... and while I am admittedly not an atheist (or agnostic) I am also not religious and prefer to ask questions about mortal existence in an objective sense. Anyone who says they have the answers is more than a little suspect in my mind. So with that... if the "New V" starts off with hordes of people rushing to places of worship for answers and FOCUSES on that explicitly I already feel alienated. And I also blame the network for going with "The 4400" creator over Kenneth Johnson.
Well..this whole "bible sez humans are only things" has been addressed before, to me, most notably in the graphic novel "Creature Tech" by Doug Tennapel. The idea is that on each world of sentient creatures that the main gist of the bible is also played out, the names, places, and specific etc etc etc are different of course, but there is one of them that sacrifices itself for the salvation of the sentients on that world. that if there are other worlds, the sin/redemption thing is true too.
the concept is that original sin would affect the universe and that the "fall of man story" is different on each world, but it's still the pattern that creation follows.
the bible of earth would not mention other worlds as each world has a hell and heaven, etc.
so it's not as clear cut as it may seem, but I agree also witchoo that looking to the church to help reconcile this major change in someone's life is indicative of the hold that religion has on people, when they might try thinking a bit
Even if the religious people didn't lose their faith in a higher power, it would make more sense for them to question man made religion while still holding out hope that there might still be a higher power. It doesn't make sense to run to the thing that's been lying to them. Stupid tv! Stupid humans!
Still haven't checked out V yet but I also haven't ever seen the original series either.
If aliens do come here, that is exactly what would happen, and churches would use this to their advantage, too. Religion is never going away until people stop needing it. Life is hard, scary and uncertain, and a religion gives people a sense of safety and understanding. Why do you think people still flock to the Cult of Scientology? Because they get the same needs satisfied, even though we know the cult is based on nonsense.
Just as a point of argument, I'd say that an alien presence on Earth would prove parts of the Bible wrong, but not necessarily invalidate Christianity as a whole. Yes, I consider myself a "pseudo-Christian" (for lack of a better term) and I'm definitely NOT a Biblical scholar. Note: I also have a problem with sheep.
...I'm sure I will watch the rest when the season comes back on.
