Thats the trouble when a fish has a hundred common names (Ladyfish, giant herring, tenpounder etc.)... Given that this is offshore Singapore, the critter is probably *Elops hawaiensis* (at least until that species gets split up).

Not a milkfish (which has a smaller mouth), a tarpon (which has a filament/"streamer" on the back of the dorsal fin) or a wolf herring (which has whopping great fangs)

that my friends is a fish with many names, one would be lady fish, and more would be tiny tarpon, ten pounder, horse mackeral,skip jack, take your pic, that is what it is. and i believe it is related to the tarpon and in the eel family.we catch alot of them in texas.

That was a gaint herring, aka ladyfish, or "Teck Ngor" as commonly call here in Singapore.

Parang, or wolf herring have a more upwards pointing jaw and a smaller tail compared to the body.

Thats right! Its a Wolf Herring, a family member of the Tarpon family. The shores of Sembawang infested with it now. Good fighting fish(boney), just landed a 11.5kg a couple of days back(no pics though,unprepared)Its total kiosk!!!
