  • what's he holding?

  • @enzo321 i think it's a plastic bottle :)

  • The only way to stop him from hitting him in the face...is keeping the hand straight in front of the face..because if he keeps it to the side, his reaction to block is to slow. I like this video though because it show's you how easy someone can be hit..even when they are expecting it and a waiting to block.

  • For those silly people who click on dislike and don't think this works - watch Michael Jai White demonstrating the boxing version of the non-telegraphic strike against Kimbo of all people too! /watch?v=wdPP0TmqKiU

  • Been doing Kenpo and Kajukenbo since 1992 but I love the Kali/Escrima arts

  • I have had quite a few private lessons with ray and I have trained since 1982....firstly with karate and kali and since 1995 with Walt Missingham in JKD and I can tell you that there is no trick involved here.

Ray is as fast as he appears to be.

All this buillshit about distracting the guy etc...is just that...bullshit.

And he can do the same thing with a lunge from across the room.

Train with him and you will see what I mean.

A damn nice bloke and an excellent, giving teacher as well.

  • lol. hilarious.

  • damn you're fast... even as an observer I didn't even see tension in your body before your attack!

  • An excellent example of true time striking.

  • i would like someone to explain me...i mean i always saw Bruce Lee throwing this punch so fast, but now i began to practice another time of martial arts, like wing chun so i now i would like to know how this punch works etc...

  • the only way is to depend it is to waive your head like mayweather do. No time to parry its so fast

  • The secret is to relax your body and arms but keep them slightly weaving. Whip your hand out

loosely so your shoulders don't become tense, and clench your hand an instant before contact.

And keep a poker face. You don't want to telegraph your intentions.

  • A true fighter does not rely on his eyes when fighting, but rather his intuition. If you can successfully predict your opponent's next maneuver, then you can easily counter. Much of this is accomplished in a prolonged encounter through "feeling out" your opponent. Sometimes, you are not afforded this luxury to "duke it out" with your foe, so you must hone your instincts. This is usually accomplished by engaging in many real life fights, or to a lesser effect, sparring. I have spoken.

  • @immortalhxl "i have spoken?" what the hell? does the world feel obligation?

  • @yurkler Always haters... Just trying to share some knowledge... If you'd ever like to spar and are in the Houston area, I'd love to test your skills...

  • @immortalhxl then share you knowledge and leave it at that. who tho hell ends what they say with "i have spoken"? even the most powerful person in the world doesn't have the ego to say such a thing. do you not realize that you give off the impression of a big douche when you say that? apparently not. continue to enlighten us, oh great one!

  • @yurkler Honestly, I could care less what 13 year olds on Youtube think about me. You don't even now who I am. I would bitch slap you about 17 times before you even saw me coming. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you're a slow, fat, slightly above intelligence, and desperately lonely 13-27 year old virgin who lives with Mummy and Daddy and watches Youtube videos to learn how to fight. The master has graced you with his wisdom.... LOL!!!!

  • @yurkler Also, I wanted to point out how apparent it is that you feel so inferior as to attack strangers on the internet. Look, I understand, you were beat up by someone, you're too afraid to confront him, so now you feel the need to take it out on others. This is a very common syndrome. Perhaps counselling or maybe beating up grade school children will help you to regain your lost confidence.

  • @immortalhxl did you just make up a fabricated paragraph because i pointed out that you come across as a giant douche? yes, you just did.

you need to shed your confidence (get the "i have spoken" shit outta here). i guess in all your years of martial arts mastery you have forgotten the way of being humble. pathetic, really.

  • @yurkler I humbly accept your request for a duel... bring it pussy-lips!

  • @immortalhxl lol you're hilarious. logic? yeah right. humility? for pussies. using your head? fuck that.

come over here and fight me!! class A retard here. did you know bruce lee was a philosopher? food for though (or food to fuel a duel, rofl).

  • @yurkler pfffbbbbttttt.... I fart in your general direction. Getting people worked up on the internet is so fun. I'll leave you alone now to contemplate how awesome your life is. Take it easy dude!

  • That guy is pretty fast...

  • yes yes telegraphed punching is the key now when you can throw a bunch of convos that way you can be a good fighter , i practice that everyday

  • He's hitting them because he's within their reactionary gap. He's so close that noone except a genetic freak is going to be able to block the attack unless it's telegraphed. That's the point he's trying to make. And that reactionary gap is also bigger than people think it is when combined with his footwork (which he doesn't use here). Turning that around, if someone is this close to you and you feel he is about to get violent, you want to get as FAR away from him as possible or DO something.

  • I practice a non-telegraphic lead punch every day for at least an hour. The trick is to be totaly relaxed while focussing on the forward movement. The less muscles you need to relax before thrusting, the faster you are and the less time the opponent has to react. I test this with partners who have their defensive hand near their face. Still they are too late to block or evade. The littlest muscle tension can cause the strike to fail.

  • And this is KNOWING the strike is incoming. People who think they are super man because they practice this or that are morons.

  • @PreparedCitizen, LOL, right on, man.

  • Ok, the instructor makes a very true point but you have to aknowledge as well that he is one hell of a fast motherfucker!

But anyways, this is the wakeup call to all the knife-gurus here on youtube who show you their awesome knife defences (I personally like it when they show techniques, where you "wait to the last moment" before you react. hilarious!). The only right thing to to is to get behind your blade an keep the guy at a distance!

  • yes he fuc my neihboors mom at one time

  • It's a combination of the vocal misdirection and speed in this video however it's the hand/body movement and the footwork of fencing which makes his system so effective. Even without the vocal misdirection, Master Floro is FAST! I picked up his video set a while back, used the material with some knife sparring to test it out and it's top notch and highly recommended. DEFINATELY something to add to your blade work system.

  • I wouldn't call the vocal misdirection vocal misdirection since he does it ALL the time.

  • Ray Floro is the truth. I train with him regularly and after training in other Martial Arts systems for the past 14 years, I can honestly say... they all pale in comparison.

  • i still think some work blocks work but u have to be fast at countering after. but this guy is lightning quick so it wouldn't work on him or anyone else who works really well with a knife.

  • The voacl misdirection is a factor but the real factor is that he is occupying the conscious mind by asking a question. It's also what he says. When your brain starts to go off in search for meaning, he strikes.

  • No

its that he moves his hand before the rest of his body.

This concept is in French fencing and jeet kune do. And ive known more then a few guys in both those arts that could do this empty hand and with a weapon all day on people. Muhamid ali had a fist first jab also.

  • That is your explanation, I know what i see from my field of expertise and i respect your opinion though it differs from mine :) Thanks for the valued reflection.

  • I think you make an interesting point. But there is also footage of Ray Floro doing this to guys in sparring with no conversation or question asking involved.

PS i like you video favorite selection

  • it's not so much that the strike is non -telegraphic, because he is doing a great job, but he's using quite a bit of misdirection with both intent and other subtle body movements. I'm sure he's not aware of this, but he's also timing in between breaths of the opponents, watch him carefully. Good stuff, that's what it takes to end the fight when the necessity of preemptive attacking arises

  • Fantastic! How long is a knife fight gonna last with this guy?? About one second.

  • About four. I'd imagine he'd stab me more than once.

  • goonhands i would not bag this guy out

  • I have sparred with Ray many times with padded weapons, open hand etc.

He hits fast and hard as he doesn't telegraph his strikes.

I am a martial arts Instructor with 30 years experience who is faster and fitter than Ray (he wont mind me saying that) and i struggle to defend his strikes and to hit him.

Ray just likes to have fun when teaching striking, defence, distance and timing.

Anyone who is serious about edged weapon skills needs to train with Ray.

  • what are the open hands like? is it panantakuan?

  • I agree with goonhands about the vocal distraction. Good tactic on Ray's part, but I would like to see it done w/o it just to see how the other guy would react (better, worse, or about the same).

  • I have done some sparring with Ray and he didn't really need to distract me by talking at all. He's REALLY fast and his timing is outstanding. Plus, he's an amazingly funny, friendly and open-minded person. If you're ever around Sydney, make sure to contact him!

  • Following on, in relation to fencing theory, virtually no-one will defend against this strike at this range because Ray is striking in the "Time of the Hand" (to borrow Silver's terms) i.e. at this range he can strike as fast as his hand can move because he doesn't need to step (Time of Foot) or even lean forward (Time of Body) to reach his partner. Silver tells us that at this range, the first mover usually succeeds because the hand is faster than the eye - which we all knew of course.

  • This is my analysis as well. I haven't had any fencing lessons but I have studied realistic fighting systems & the bottom line is that nearly anyone can be hit from this range by anyone else. This isn't anything spectacular. If you are defending then you obviously want to be out of this range to begin with & if you can't be to begin with then you fight with everything you have.

  • This Demo would have been much better if the other guys actually moved around and tried to avoid getting hit! Plus with that padded stick he's holding he gets lots of reach and can easily appear to move quicker than he actually is if you look closely at his hand you will see it moves first not his shoulder or centreline as some others have tried to say it's a fencing technique!

  • Indeed, in relation to moving hand first, George Silver writing in the 16th century details what he calls True Times (i.e. moving Hand, then Body, then Foot) and False Times (moving Foot, Body than Hand). The idea arguably dates back even further in European fencing theory however. Medieval fight book Hs. 3227a says we should strike as if a cord was pulling the end of our sword (or knife) into the target by the shortest path possible = no telegraphing!

  • As others have said a great sense of distance & timing, its what seperates great MA practicioners from average joe's.

  • The reason these guys are getting hit is becuse they let the other guy move while they stand still while he distracts them vocally and visually with his head movements also watch the way he move his feet closer while he's talking he obviously understands distance and timing very well.

  • plus dude, he can also pull this off while the others are moving :)

  • lol aaron it's all about range, when you'r in-fighting you need to look at the oponents chest, maybe u didnt know that cos ur a boxer, or generally get kicked a lot Lol

  • i agree with aaron... when you think about a real fight situation, you will through the attacker's centre line i.e head and chest. i hate reading shit comments from people here who just chat rubbish saying this n saying that which is unrealistic. i see so much of this on youtube it annoys me

  • And im agreeing with both of them, There are only few training methods that prepare you for this type of thing, and you usaly have to sacrifice something for your safty when it comes to methods such as these. And people on youtube have no idea what there talking about

  • Incredible speed! Like the 'Ali Shuffle' too!LOL

  • it's good stuff, but to be hoenst, it'd be much harder for him the achieve that if the receiver has done some martial arts or boxing before, first, when u fight, u don't look into people's eyes, u don't have to, if u look at their chest, u see everything, u see their arms move, legs move, body movements before a strike etc, if u look into their eyes, it's way too late to react when u realise a strike a laid

  • actually, it makes almost no difference who he does it too. i've watched him pull it on everything from third degree black belts, to boxing champions, to cops and soldiers. it's scientifically calculated to hit home.

  • actually, the trick is to move your head or eyes before or during the strike. watch his head. he will look away and the victim will sub-conciously follow his gaze. its called misdirection.

and yes, Master Floro is a genius.

  • But what is the trick to do non-telegraphic strike?

  • The trick is quiet simple. Hand moves FIRST, then the ARM, LAST is the body. If the body or shoulders move first, then you give your intention away. And no, you don't lose any power

  • This is ture, its also hard to see a tarket that only has a straight tradjectory. If the knife went of the center alingment you might have a chance of seeing it. Cant say much about blooking or getting out of that though

  • @RayFloro, very nice. Just what medieval and renaissance fight masters wrote in Europe about body movement. Good show!

  • @RayFloro it's easier said then done. it takes a lot of practice to achieve this

  • @RayFloro

So it's the other way around? Hand-shoulder-hip-foot. and Not the boxings foot-hip-shoulder-hand.

  • @RayFloro is it humanly possible to develop the reflexes to evade this strike?

  • Yes it is i've read in bruce lee's june kune do book but i don't know how.I did not reach that far in the book. You should check out that book for yourself

  • "jeet kune do "

  • @RayFloro It seems like you've adapted fenching mechanics perfectly for the knife! Consider this another sale of your dvd set!

  • Fast hands!

  • If you get a chance guys train with Ray he is a legend and the training is always fun, the way martial arts should be

  • Anymore videos?

  • kali ilusistrimo

  • great video!!! thanks for sharing!!!

  • Filipino martial arts.Blade sparing

  • Is this learning boxing [a jab] or does the thing in your hand represent a blade? What martial art is this? I'm bit confused.

  • I remember being at a Dan Inosanto seminar where Mr Ray Floro also attended. He helped out many people with the techniques and always with a smile on his face.He made learning fun.If you get a chance, train with him and to Mr Ray Floro, thank you and God bless.
