  • lol on the speedo it says unleaded only

  • Hey David Grisom, you did a great job. I want to convert my 98 ford windstart to all electric. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks

  • David Grisom sp? Rocks!!! He Obviously knows Electric Vehicle theory, implementation and construction very thoroughly! Thanks for your taking your time to help educate us with your expertise.

  • This is great to see everyone taking matters into their own hands. I also drive my own EV conversion. I drive it 55 miles a day and it has a range of 30 miles on a charge. I plug in between uses so that I can go further. The most I did in one day was 77 miles and I could have gone further but didn't have anywhere to go. You can google my car if you would like to see it at. John Allen's EV conversion. Enjoy and I hope that more folks jump on the boat.

  • thanks for posting this; Dave Grissom is an awesome guy. Go Dave!

  • It sounds good to convert an old ranger to EV, but how does it perform when is loaded?

  • Nice!

    Looks like pretty solid work.

  • uhmbin mega aufgewirbelt und ungezogen heute wer mag mit mir schreibn und so

  • Great job! I will use this video in my classroom when we discuss electric vehicles. Thank you for posting this for everyone to view.

  • Major step over a golf cart.

    Nice work.

Getting electricity to charge batteries is cheaper than the gasoline driven machines.

Gas milage is dependant on weight, so reducing that helps, but the batteries weigh more than the gas motor? And cost more.

The extra cost of all the batteries will buy a lot of gas, tho, so where is the savings?

Saving polution? Yes, but only if the electral generatoion doesn't polute.

Very nice work. Enjoy the quiet ride.

  • I saw info on the new glass mat batteries, (no liquid) are they deep cycle enough, will they work for an electric vehicle? Are they lighter?

    Thanks Ed

  • I don't know. If you find out could you post it here?

    thanks

  • @huntingwithed They are not lighter and they are comparable to good deep cycle battery. People in the telecommunications industry have been using them for years. Just about anyone in a news or satellite van can tell you so. They also contain liquid, just a very small amount, enough to coat the fiberglass mat (same sulfuric acid used in flooded batteries). A perfect example of a good agm battery would be one of those optima batteries with the spiral cells.

  • @huntingwithed AGM is nothing new. "Absorbed Glass Mat". Look at Optimas, their yellow-tops are among the best AGM deep cycles. Low internal resistance, high discharge rates, but still, with any 12v battery you have less capacity per unit. There are other AGMs, including 200Ah 6v batteries. Floodies are still some of the best, as far as lead acid goes. If you have deep pockets, go for LiFePO4.

  • how do you hinge the truck bed???

  • You can buy a kit from the auto parts store to do that.

  • Excellent job sir. Well done!

  • on full load can it go uphill?

  • Thank you so much for posting this, every conversion video is another nail in the big oil's coffin.

  • i love that analogy. it's just too bad big oil is so BIG. But the future is coming, and they'll be replaced by clean running electric vehicles. :)

  • yessss

  • the electric ve hickle

  • y donde consigo el motor?

  • There is a company that sells electric motors and controllers for these conversions. Just google it.

Hay una empresa que vende motores eléctricos y los controladores para este tipo de conversiones. Google para hacerlo.

  • Amazing.

  • ahah its mr. Rains

  • This looks like a fantastic conversion with attention to safety. I have a Datsun PU with 14 Trojan T-105s under the bed and 6 under the hood. The vehicle weighs about 700 lbs. heavier than a stock 1978 Datsun 620 king cab, but the suspension was beefed up with extra leaf springs to support the weight. It drives like a champ. Excellent that you mentioned the rpm's of the motor and amp draw in relation to what gear you're driving in.

  • Very Informative. Which is cool coz im thinking of converting a YANK Car. :-)

  • other than my little mishap, this car is pretty cool!

  • Excellent! Very interesting!

    Gaby.

  • Want a converted DeLorean. I think he would have a characteristic snoring. In addition to already have a futuristic look, in my opinion.

After that ... Just missing fly and travel in time. hehehe

  • why cant one moter turn one balt balt to turn 5 or 6 car genarators at the same time into sell s inverters to charge the sell batteries ,it only tacks a small 12 volt moter to turn heaps off genaraters at the same time just like the moter in a car turning one generater that could run the car for years lights everythink with out the car moter doing it ,why not heaps off small moterbike ones on one balt with a small petrol moter realy small petrol moter ???

  • down to earth god jiven right sir

  • A 1 very cool God Bless you sir

  • i would propably get the vette and convert it, actually

  • : )

  • T E S L A

  • at 3:06, theres a corvette in the top right corner - id rather have that than the electric

  • Hi how did you get the bed to tilt ?? I would like to do that to mine. I'm building a 85 ranger using a advanced 9" motor. Great video

  • My hat's off to Mr. Grissom. The Chevy "Volt" will do no better and cost 10 times as much, whenever it finally comes along. By then Mr. Grissom will have a better one.

  • ok, y que tan larga es la vida de las baterias?

  • how cost the electric motor?

  • awesome work

  • good job davi

  • wow i so want to do this but dont really know how should do sum googeling

  • check out the vids i have done and it might help you in your own conversion

  • you are a genious man

  • Great video! I'm hoping to start my project soon where I'll be converting a 1979 VW van to electric. It'll probably take me a year to complete (pay for the motor, controller, batteries etc), but I'll post a video to encourage others to jump in.

  • There is a lot of weight you can shave off that truck, this will give you longer run. Replace the glass with plexi or acrylic.

  • Very true.I hear plexi scratches easy thus u can't have wipers?Surely there's a way around that.I have plans someone gave me a long time ago(will give to anyone interested, just drop me a line)for an EV(or GV)called Trimuter which you can see at rqrileyDOTcom, tho they have much better cars now like XR-3.The Trimuter is about early 80s tech and plans still cost $100,which I do not think is right.I have the booklet and all 12 full sized blueprints 4 anyone interested.I'd like 2 get it out there..

  • Uh, Homer, is it? (really city-fied name there, by the way) Regardless of where they're from, they just put together a working, viable truck through their own hard work and creativity. And where's YOUR electric car, hmm?

  • Nope, you're just red necks. My name is not Homer, i acquired this account.

  • Great job. I wish I could afford to convert a truck like this. Personally I like the direct drive setups, no transmission. That's just me though.

  • this here's cooter. this is larry darryl and darryl. j/k

    great work!

  • I have the exact model Ford Ranger and have thought about doing this very conversion, but with a slightly different motor. Bravo! Now that I have seen it can be done, I have more motivation to forge ahead. Nice work!

  • Truly amazing. Good old American ingenuity is alive and well. You're proof of that. Keep up the outstanding work. This is what we need now more than ever.

    God bless!

  • Nice work

  • Vehickul?

  • WOW! This guys frickin awesome!

  • where do i get one?!

  • the only thing i hate about electric. their quiet. i love the sound of a gasoline engine. but i guess thats a small price to pay for transportaion. i might do this to my RARE 89 Subaru XT6 it has 2.7L H6 and is very ahrd on gas.

  • just get a stereo or noise machine. i imagine people will have devices to mimick old school car noise soon.

  • I Hope so. hopefully it'll be consistent with the pedal.

  • Nice job ! and at a good price! well done men!

  • Brilliant! Great video! Very informative!

Mr. Grissom, I live in East Tennessee (not far from you). I plan on starting an electric conversion the beginning of next year. I plan on converting a small sedan. I haven't narrowed down the exact car just yet. I think I'll do fine for most of it. But I will need help with fabricating an adaptor for the motor, clutch and transmission. If you're interested, how much would you charge to assist me with that?

    Clint

  • Nice conversion job!

I couldn't get over those guys' accents. They sound cool! It's like something out of a movie!

  • I think David did a great job.

  • david good show good to see your project

  • really cant do much with the truck, what if you want to haul a load? Then what mileage would one get?

  • David rocks !!!

  • Thank you very much for posting your video. I have looked at converting an older ford ranger for quite some time. Very easy vehicles to work with.
