Damn .. I had the opportunity to try this delay at a friends place yesterday ... even though I just bought the Mxr Carbon copy .. this is my next pedal purchase ... THIS THING ROCKS !!!
The Nova repeater is a fine pedal easy to use a abit warmer sounding delay, The Flashback is more transparent.......and a bit more road worthy......I use them both
@adrianovanta Better than the carbon copy simply because of the tap and the ability to layer several delay sounds. I got it and it's the best delay I've tried for the price.
hi Andy, watch your demos all the time. great stuff> YOU should do the demo with some distortion> alot of people use dealy with there lead distortion sound> just a thought> thank you for the vids> they are a big help< leon
Im a newbie as far as delay pedals go, but i've read me up and tested some different pedals at my local guitar store and finally I went with this one. I'm really satisfied with both tone and functions but I realized that I've got no clue how to, or even if its possible to connect it to my pedal power 2(voodoo lab, off course).
Can someone please tell me what the main differences are between the TC electronics nova repeater and the nova delay? Is the repeater just a simpler model of the delay?
@ALTO916 they're completely different from each other. the repeater will give you more control over the sound (dedicated modulation, tone knobs, dedicated digital, analog and tape settings). in my opinion you can get a more convincing analog or tape sound of the repeater than the Nova Delay. the N. Delay doesn't have those, but it has 9 presets and a display screen that shows the m/s of your delay. if you want a straight digital delay with stage options, go for that, but i prefer the repeater
@bluepingu345 Deluxe Memory Boy. U get alot of options with it, but the memory boy is only analog. Vox time machine looks kinda cool, but not alot of options compared to deluxe. It depends what u want. Memory is analog only, Vox is digital and maybe a little analog since it has the vintage mode.
@bluepingu345 i realize you wrote this over a year ago but did you ever figure out which pedal you wanted? i am stuck between this and the memory man.
@modnarm if you're using your amp's natural overdrive, delay, reverb, and modulation effects can be difficult to control, because an overdriven preamp tube has natural compression to it. as a result, it sounds mushy. an FX loop lets you put your pedals in between the preamp and power amp. if you're playing clean, or getting all your distortion from a pedal, it has no use, but if you're getting amp overdrive, it's pretty helpful, but not a necessity.
I really like this delay pedal....probably the best I've ever owned. I do run into a problem at times though....maybe some of you guys could help. I like to use the tap tempo to dial in the bpm for songs. It works great for songs 100 bpm+, but for songs 90 and below in bpm, it gets off track bad. I mean, I'm sure as a human I tap the tempo in slightly off, but I have sat with my drummer and my metronome and still it eventually gets off beat. Any help?
Other than presets and delay time, the Nova Delay has a 'colour' dial, which chooses between tape, analogue and digital tones. Does the tone knob on this do a similar thing? or is it a brightness dial like most tone knobs?
Keep up the work lads, you guys are easily responsible for most the GAS out there...
maybe I am doing something wrong? I run this into my FX loop. Using the amp distortion, then swtich the the FX loop on, the pedal seems to thin out the sound. Is there a fix to that?
@bcomiskey23 some amps have an actual effects loop volume control. i am a gearhead and it took me and another guitarist 20 mins trying to setup a gnx4 to his marshall head to figure out all the volume issues. take some time, fiddle with levels on the pedals. im still not sold on using effects loop all the time
@41224jason Agreed. The Nova Delay sounded great but was way too complicated for a stompbox. I'm glad they didn't give up on the concept and tried again.
i've had one since christmas, and i couldn't be more satisfied. with the exception of lacking presets, it's absolutely perfect. and in almost every way i think way better than its bigger brother, the Nova Delay
Good god!!!! What more could you ask for!?!?!?!? SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!! Made by TC, first of all, has the best settings you can ask for, awesome features, perfect sound, and the price is just right!!!!!! I'm getting this ASAP!!!!
DD-20 has a couple more features....but for the money and quality, i say this cause its a professional well trusted company and the features and quality of this pedal are just amazing!!!
I have one of these and they are bad ass. I have tried many delays over the years but this one is a keeper. Never have I been so motivated to create new sounds.
So I've been reading through the comments, and still don't know if this is true bypass or not. One answer said it was, and one said it wasn't. So what is it?
well, i've checked pretty much every demo, and read about it everywhere, and no, i dont think it self oscillates, and usually most digital delays dont self oscillate, except for the subdecay echobox which is digital and self-oscillates
Yes it's limited, but what it means is that you can a delay time from say... .1 second to 3 seconds. If you tapped a 5 second delay it would set it to three.
Amazing... the manufacturers are getting it right after all this time.... and after false promises of the past ... THIS is what we've been waiting for. excellent...!!!
All TC electronic is tb. Sounds like a Strat, he's been plzying through a deluxe reverb lately. Anyone else notice the demos are getting shorter and shorter? I liked the old 10min ones where they explore every possible setting. I also think they need to demo every pedal they have in stock. I know it sounds like a lot of work, Andy, but are you willing?
i doubt this is true bypass, being stereo in and out, but it'd be typical of TC to be cutting edge and use a relay. perhaps when the spillover is off it can be true bypassed.
don't get caught up with bypass anyway - this is TC Electronic here, they do top-quality buffers, which is farrrr better than true bypass.
What difference in features is there between the Nova Delay and the Nova Repeater? The Repeater is cheaper, but what's the real difference between the two? :)
no presets, no color knob (but same features), ability to kill dry and spillover, delay range instead of bpm/msec LED, FX level instead of mix, vibrato mod delay
Thats the whole point, to be a plug and play "no-frills" version of the Nova Delay. If you want presets then the Nova Delay is more suitable for you because its basically the same sound, but with presets.
