I can't believe the people questioning why Shawn didn't make more of an effort to run away. He was kidnapped as a very young child, at an age when he was very vulnerable to all kinds of manipulation. @808Lana Unless we went through what Shawn did as a kid, we’re never know for sure. I would guess that a certain percentage of kids in his situation would have acted the same; a certain percentage would have booked at the first opportunity, or at least after a short period of time after he learned his abductor's routine. Apparently Shawn never would have, at least as a kid. He was actually in police custody for a brief period of time for a curfew violation.

See this is what I don't understand. This dude was not holding him captive. He allowed him to do whatever he wanted it seems. Neighbors always saw Shawn hanging outside with the other kids. One neighbor even said Shawn was good friends with her son and slept over at their house a bunch of times. Shawn had plenty of opportunities to tell someone that he was abducted and being sexually abused. Even in this video theres plenty of people in at store he could've asked for help. Why didn't he?

@nich1010 I'm starting to think Devlin brainwashed him or something. I too hope he's able to put that living nightmare behind him. I think he will because he seems like a strong guy. After he survived that hell he went back to school and studied hard to be able to graduate with his old schoolmates. He's also dedicated himself to helping other kidnapped kids, and I'm pretty sure he's studying child psychology in college.

@lollypop2143 There was a case very much like this involving an *adult* young woman who had been kept as an abject slave for a period of time but later was allowed not only to go out, but to get a job and visit her mother! Devlin puzzles me as much if not more. He must have wanted the kid very badly to have taken the chances he had. Leaving the poor kid tied-up in his apartment for hours at a time--for a month!--while he worked? How could anyone function taking that kind of chance?
