  • MrRoyalFairness You must have because tto attack personally without intelligent discourse, whether one agrees with me or not., is a sign of mental fragility. To bad this board allows such behavior.

  • Tami Mauriello was my boyfriend's second cousin. Tami died in 1999. He became a personal bodyguard to the president of Grumman aircraft. He was a big gambler. His real name was Stephen. He had a bar called Tami's Corner on 187th and Southern Blvd. in the Bronx (NY).

  • @pat2004tbird Tami, in addition to being a dangerous knockout puncher, was also very good in On The Waterfront. Imagine having a pair of bodyguards the likes of Tami and Tony Galento!

  • @johnwtanneriv

Well I was giving my opinion my top 5 goes in the order of 1.robinson, 2.louis,3.armstrong and 4.Ali. And I wasn't writing off Moore or Walcotts power, the last thing to go in a boxer is power, but I write off how a 42 year old archie and a 38 year old Moore wud stand a chance against Marciano, infact the only credible fighter Marciano beat near his prime was a 33 year old Charles which was also his hardest fight and IMO he is not even a top ten heavyweight, just a good cruiser.

  • Bless you GreatA for posting all of these!

  • Louis was not the greatest...he lost to many times.

  • @Atomicflash500 oh really 72 fights and 3 loses is, 'losing too many times'. Longest reigning heavyweight, with the most 1st round knockouts of any champion. Why do I even reply to someone that spells, 'too' wrong.

  • @Atomicflash500

the fuck are you talking about?! he only lost ONCE in his prime, to schmeling, and look what happened in the rematch. KO 1.

  • Definetly!

  • Joe Louis was awesome. HIs opponent was tough and game and coule box good too!

  • Clean yp your language! Let's show our maturity by not getting personal, other, I will flag you. and yes, Louis would not be able to floor Marciano in his prime.

  • @Kerbee

Do you have a mental problem? :)

  • Mauriello knock out Lou Nova in the 1st round.

  • More action in the first 30 secs than you see in the whole 12 rounds of a typical Klitschko fight. Louis obviously in decline here. That early right hand was the worst thing possible for Mauriello: it revealed his top weapon too soon and it didn't knock Louis out. From then on he's right hand happy and neglects defence. If Joe had so discernibly slipped from his best in 1946, it tells you how far he was from it by 1952. (Just for those who say Marciano would have beaten the real Joe Louis.)

  • 0:18 - isn't Louis 32 at the time of this fight?

  • Is it just me, or does Louis remind you of Tiger Woods? Woods looks like Louis and hey, maybe he could play Louis in an updated biopic of the Brown Bomber. lol

  • Let's see the facts: official weigh-in six hours before the fight, six ounces glove, no tape around the strings, no kidney belt, three-ropes ring, no padding on the corners. Those fighter are not to be compared with today's.

  • There is a very big difference, between slugging in the alley and boxing in the ring....

  • What does the over-hyped Ali have to do with this fight?

Is there no way to escape the incessant sales pitches for Ali, the news-media created 'greatest of all time,?

  • Wow, what a fight! The worst thing that could have happened to Mauriello did: he caught Louis with a good one early and then lost his head. After the left hook connected, all bets were off as instinct took over. Comparing the two, I must say Louis' reign was better than Ali's, in that his fights were more exciting, esp. near the end. It's down to his attacking style, of course, but you'd never see Louis in bores like Ali against Evangelista or Young. Still hard to say who was better, though.

  • He definitely would have not.

  • nearly got knocked out the first 15 seconds

  • @fanablaspliff

All it did was wake Joe up and we saw what happened after that.

  • tami used to love goin to yonkers raceway---he used to see cab calloway there and sometimes they gambled together---this was in his later years in the 8os

  • Comparing Mauriello to Ali shows how much you know about Boxing.

  • That left hook that floored Tami was awesome. If Joe was a little younger and fought Ali about the same age. Louis would K.O. Ali the same as he did to Mauriello

  • This just proves that joe louis would have beat ali ass if they would have fought all people look at when they see ali is hand speed and footwork that's louis on the other hand is a great puncher had unreal accuracy and perfect timing he wolud have knock ali's ass right off of his toes in 5 rounds plain and simple.

  • Not necessarily. Ali may go down as one of the toughest fighters ever, whether its fighting with a broken jaw, fighting with internal bleeding in his kidneys, or fighting with Parkinsons Disease. Ali can take a punch, ask Moore, Frazier, Foreman, Lamar Clark, Shavers, Bob Foster, Ken Norton, Quarry, Lyle, Mac Foster, Bonavena, Cleveland Williams, Liston, and Patterson all of which could hit. Muhammed Ali is not as good as Cassius Clay, the fight between him and Louis would be exciting though.

  • @QuantumJackhammer

ali was all good and well but he was a very incomplete fighter, and when his reflexes went downhill his style fell apart. joe louis still managed some impressive wins after his forced comeback, i mean he KOed walcott just as bad as marciano did in his prime!

  • @QuantumJackhammer I give it to Ali on points. Louis always struggled against movers. However Ali was always a sucker for a good left hook.

If Ali clowns and Louis nails him Ali gets knocked out.

  • @DrJReefer joe louis would won i just say henry cooper

  • totaly agree man... just cant compare ali to louis

  • it is pretty amazing how badly Louis aged in just 5 years. He looked so much older against Marciano.

  • what is fascinating to me is how much a difference 5 years makes. Look how shot Louis was against Marciano in 1951. He couldn't even through a right hand, never mind a meaningful combination. I think this Louis of 1946 would probably have taken that Marciano provided he was in excellent condition.

  • He definately would.

  • @sashe44

Louis didn't hit hard enought to floor, let alone, knock out Marciano.

  • @Kerbee are you fucking kidding you moron. Louis the guy considered by most experts to be the greatest puncher of all time couldn't floor Marciano in his prime?

  • @Kerbee

Lol this really does have to be the most ridiculous comment i've ever seen written, joe louis, the one that is in the top three punchers of all time, that has a record for the amount of k.o's in the first round he has done, the one with the greatest ever straight right hand, the second greatest fighter to ever live couldn't floor marciano even though the likes of archie moore and jersey joe walcott have... u clearly dont no a lot about boxing so i forgive your comment.

  • @jijforlife While I agree with your sentiment, Louis absolutely could floor Marciano, a couple of notes:

    1) louis is not usually considered the 2nd greatest fighter ever, maybe you consider him to be, but consensus is that he is the 2nd best heavyweight ever...several smaller guys often placed above him (Sugar Ray Robinson and Henry Armstrong to name a couple)

    2) Don't write archie moore or joe walcott off like they didn't have serioussss power. Moore had over 130 knockouts.

  • This is an instructive video. First, it shows that Louis had clearly lost some of his sharpness and timing by 1946. Secondly, it showed once again that he recuperates very quickly and is a calm and deadly counter-puncher.

  • Fantastic film footage of Mauriello....he had Louis in trouble but...he didnt finish him...never give a guy like joe louis a second chance to get you....cause he will get you.

  • Thanks for posting! Awesome!!

  • Wow, great film Tami was really a good fighter. Tami had a powerful punch. Tks to the GreatA a asset to the youtube.

  • great film
