A miracle - an artistic archeological discovery for the ages. People will be studying this footage one century from today.
Interesting to note her posture, which changed after her weight loss. She carries herself almost like a man - the way she holds her legs apart (for support?), the concave chest. That posture appears in models and movie stars beginning around the 1930s, when svelt became popular.
Whether she did this for support or to carry herself like an art deco statue, I am not sure.
Dear vstasov , really FANTASTIC documentary, young Kraus is awesome. Do you imagine how fantastic would be to see Visconti's production with Di Stefano and Bastianini?
Bless whoever had the presence of mind and the resourcefulness to film this. It's a document and it's a marvel in every sense. Thank you ever so much Onegin65 for posting it. Did you synchronize it yourself? Great job indeed.
Creí que moriría imaginándome a Callas como Violetta... Es realmente impagable.¡Existe! He podido ver unos instantes! Todavía no puedo creerlo. Gracias a quien sea el responable de este gran regalo que són estos siete minutos, aunque escasos, realmente maravillosos.
What a find!!! Besides the video, this also gives a good representation of what Callas' voice sounded like in the house. Although she was an excellent artist in the studio, studio recording do not give the "true picture" of what a voices sounds like in the house. In the case of Callas, her voice sounds better in the house as some of the harshness is lessened by the acoustics.
in the sound direct? I thing the film is covered with the sound from cd

Is this the performance that inspired Terrence McNally to write "Lisbon Traviata" that starred Nathan Lane?
