There's something damn wrong about a group of pseudo-Elizabbethans singing a 19th century sea shanty celebrating American general (later President) Zachery Taylor's death... that didn't happen until 1850! For christ's sake guys, does anyone know what the term anachronism means? And lose the modern guitar while you are at it!
I was looking for traditional shanties. General Taylor *is* one.
I watched it because I'm a professional living historian who got his start in Renn Fairs back in the early 80s...and had to watch the same way that one slows down to rubber-neck at a car crash. I may not be a shanty expert (that would be my buddy Simeon Spaulding), but I *do* know when a song is wholly inappropriate for the time period that is ostensively being portrayed. Not that that's a shock based on your other videos.
Hi, check out my videos, if you like. I've started a project in recording traditionalist renditions of chanteys...i.e. aiming for 'spirit' of the genre, while not trying to over-pretend
Don't let these guys stop you from posting more from the faire. I love your videos, and can hardly wait for this season to start.I like the fantasy of the faire, and read books for history. See you at the faire:)
hey we have shows at the Gazabo at 11:30 with the Bully Boys and we have a Washer Wench show at 1:00 and 3:00 at the Town Crier. Now this Sat is the Media Olympics, so Sat's day is changed, but Sunday should be back to normal. Just check the Street Schedual in your Elizabethan Times. Thanks, and I hope you have a great day at the Faire!
Ignore that other guy, it's obvious that he's just trying to shove his weight and knowledge around thinking that it'll get him points or something.

I forgot to lower the quality before I recorded it and the file size was too big for me to upload the whole thing. I wish I had more of it too
