Hank Williams Sr. learned to play guitar from Rufus Payne (a black street performer) in Georgiana, AL in exchange for food and what lil money Hank could give him. I just simply love Hank. No one sounds nor sings today as he did, he was universal in style, feel, and appeal though absolutely unique in character and delivery. His style was truly Western and when he sang a song you could feel the depth from where it erupted and came to birth. Hank was a transitional singer. He introduced the world to true country music. Folks were used to bluegrass sound. True country was a new sound. He wasnt the best country singer but he had a new sound. That changed music. Like Elvis changed us to rock n roll. Being first don't mean your the best. It was timing that rocketed them to stardom. If either was introduced today they wouldnt be the best. You would be lucky to hear of either one. Today Hank wouldnt make the Opry or radio. Music changed!
