This was on a tv show shown all over the nation and this Alabama country boy started out by saying that this song bought him and the boys a lot of beans and biscuits, Thats why the people all loved him and still do, he was just like us. " In anger unkind words are said that make the tear drops start" What a classic!!!!
so love Hank...he is the Man that started it all, cross over fm only Gospel music to singing about eveyday life. They called it Honky tonk Country...way later they would just call it Country..Evis loved him cover a few of his songs..miss ya Hank thx Indiana
Hank Williams Sr. learned to play guitar from Rufus Payne (a black street performer) in Georgiana, AL in exchange for food and what lil money Hank could give him. This was during The Great Depression when there was little to be had. I hardly think he was a racist. Please get your facts straight before judging someone
Hank was wonderful when I first heard his "Cold, Cold Heart" 50 years ago, and he is still marvelous when I heard him just now. Love his twang and his unaffected way of singing right into your heart. God bless you, Hank, for giving me happiness all these years.
whats interesting in watchin this is the window into a time long gone. what strikes me, is how much more mature and lived people were back then. I mean hank is no more then 27 here, but sounds like a 45 yr old man. & i dont mean in a bad way, rather a guy whose lived a lot, but mixes in the humility of the human condition w/ it. whens hes talkin about beans/bisquit hes on one hand frankly admitting how hard that type of $ was to get, yet he isnt bragging & relating it to humble food. rings true.
he honestly may be more important to amer music then elvis or cash. and of course thats sayin a whole lot... when dylan was at his best, he was evoking the spirit of hank. that pure stream right back to the deep hollows of appalch south & flat hollar lonliness of the delta flat lands.
hank is like real bbq when u get hold of it... very rare, but distinct to the senses when you get it. this guy was a pure river stream flowin right out of depression appalch south. he is integral to listen to if you think history has any meaning to the continuum of time. hank soaked it all the culture up around him like a poet, it was projected out in verse and voice. he is a living testament to what a time lost in amer was really like. american art.
This IS That SH!!T. I love it. only being 26 it still and always will being greattt memorys. Hanging out with all the faimly and hearing them do there own twang to it reminds me of great times. Thank everyone who Loves the Hank Sr and Jr

I've always considered Hank Williams Sr. the Daddy of Country Music. I mean, what did they listen to before he came along??? Isn't this where it all began? Still the best true country ever!!!
@SDcoollady8 There were country music artists around before Hank. The first country music singers, or one of the first, was the original Carter Family, A.P, Sara & Maybelle. There were others aswell. Hank is my favorite though.
Hank was a transitional singer. He introduced the world to true country music. Folks were used to bluegrass sound. True country was a new sound. He wasnt the best country singer but he had a new sound. That changed music. Like Elvis changed us to rock n roll. Being first don't mean your the best. It was timing that rocketed them to stardom. If either was introduced today they wouldnt be the best. You would be lucky to hear of either one. Today Hank wouldnt make the Opry or radio. Music changed!
I'm really happy to find this live performance by Hank himself here! I'm learning the song, and it's good to hear how he performed it. Which is, by the way, much slower than the way I've been doing it!
