We were married at the USNA Chapel on 7/5/74; my husband died 11/3/11 and will be buried at Arlington in Feb 2012. It would please me very much if I could obtain this recording of Eternal Father, played on the USNA Chapel organ, for his service. May I have the mp3 file, please and thank you ... sbeckwith@tampabay.rr.com GO NAVY !!!
@MsOdinmom We'll send you the mp3 but our version is played on a digital pipe organ (we don't know if a recording of the USNA Chapel organ is available or not)
Division 6, 1st District, Northern of the USCG Auxiliary.
My dear friend passed 3 November 2011and though I could not attend his service as I live on the west coast and he on the east, this is where I chose to close my personal service for him.
So much to be said, so little space.
I will say this He was a proud member of the Auxiliary Color Guard and bore the ensigns with dignity, humbleness, and great respect.
Exquisitely beautiful and poignant hymn. It was an integral aspect of President Kennedy's funeral in 1963 and absolutely unforgettable. It was indeed also sung in church services aboard the RMS Titanic the morning of the last day of her short voyage. Blessings and profound thanks to all naval personnel.
In 1943, my grandfather survived the sinking of the HMT Rhona in the Mediterranean. Sadly, most of his shipmates did not. I dedicate this hymn every Memorial Day to my Pop-Pop's buddies and pray that they are resting in peace.
Wow - does that bring back memories. Little did I realize while I was attending the Academy what a real treasure that pipe organ is. And now that I find myself employed as a church organist (we don't all become admirals), I can really appreciate it.
At Anzac day celebrations in New Zealand a song called Lest We Forget is sung with the same tune but different words , but I think this one is better.
thanks for the music and picture of the academy. i'll probably never go there so it is neat to see it via the 'net. i got my sea legs in alaska on fishing vessels but God is good and brought me home- Ps. 107
We're having some technical difficulties with loading music onto the website at the moment. We can send you the mp3 if you give us your email address.

What's the name of the version with this as it's last verse.
O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee,
Praise from the air, the land and sea.

@MrProfessorH That's the original British version of the hymn.

do you know any verse that begins with, "O Savior who...."?
stellatois 1 year ago
@stellatois I might be the second verse, sung using "O Savior, " in place of "O Christ, ".

We record with a digital pipe organ, but the organ at the Naval Academy is a pretty amazing instrument!

@HiFiHymnBook I believe its one of the largest on the east coast or something but i cant back it up.

@zeppelinite93 The Naval Academy's organ is very large! It houses about 15,000 pipes, and it has a GLORIOUS sound!
