  • Those arguing about the Belgrano need to remember what country invaded those islands. Argentina only have themselves and their government at the time to blame for the loss of life. As the son of a soldier who fought in that conflict i can tell you how tramatized a lot of British troops were to discover the enemy troops they were fighting against were just kids sent to their death ill equipped and lacking training by their government. A true disgrace!!!

  • My mate Neil Goodall died on HMS Sheffield. Neil was a cook on this ship and his death had a big impact on me back in 82. Now talk of something else kicking off with Argentina makes me so fucking angry, and it's all just because there might be some "OIL" there. The Falkland Isles have been British long before Argentina existed and any talk of them having any claim to them is laughable. The distance between Argentina and the Falklands is over 700 km so no claim there.

  • @martinxization 323 men were lost on the Belgrano but "only" 20 men were lost on the Sheffield before it was towed away and scuttled.

  • wow, great video. Thanks for posting.

  • Rest in peace shipmates, we will never forget.

  • The dispute today has to do with the potential for oil, true? So some agreement should take place SHARING those rights. No one, not even the Argentines care if some simple British folk tend a few sheep off their shore.

The first ever colony, the first ever births, the first ever marriages, occured at the French Port Saint Louis, which eventually was turned over to the Spanish.

  • @rochelle1088

The British expelled the illegal United Provinces military ( Pinedo and 26 men who had landed illegally a few weeks before) from the British Falklands in 1833, but the existing Vernet civilian colonists had requested and received British permission and were not expelled.

The UK agreed in 1995 to jointly explore for oil with Argentina and share the proceeds.

But Argentina unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2007 saying this had to be linked to handing over sovereignty.

  • @EddieExile Excellent! The UK can now keep all the profits! Argentina cut off it's stupid nose to spite is greedy and green-eyed face!

Rest in Peace Neil Goodhall and crew, HMS Sheffield.

  • @houkoisthebest lol what a dickhead !!

  • @joshguitar100 My old man was on this ship when it was hit and he survived :)

  • I have heard the Skye Boat Song before.

But it was just with the pipes, from The Queen's Royal Pipers.

I think this one is from a Naval orchestra or a band.

It has a nice arrangement of instruments supporting the pipe.

    Good choice mate

  • What is the name of the song/anthem? It's a beauty and fits well to the video

  • @jialinhornest the song is called, The Skye Boat Song....Skye is an island off the western coast of Scotland in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

  • @NAIAD49 its song actully has a connection with bonnie prince charlie i think.

  • From an american observer...

This is a classic land dispute because both sides have a legit claim, so no one is wrong here, but this war was started by a military Argentine govt, and the Argentines were relieved to be rid of that govt, and today Argentina is doing much better without it. So did England do Argentina a favor by winning?

Falklands simply doesn't produce much, other than maybe oil in the future, so there won't be another war unless a politician is not doing well, hajaja

  • @rochelle1088

The uninhabited Falklands were landed on, named and claimed by the British before Argentina existed.

    Argentina has no claim.

And it's the Falkland Islanders' UN right of self determination that is now paramount and will always be defended by the British.

  • @EddieExile

Before the English began building thier first fort on the Falklands, in 1766, they discovered the French had already built a colony there at Port Saint Louis. The French made an agreement with the Spanish to hand over the islands to them. Two times the British may have tried to "pull a fast one". Once was in 1766, by not acknowledging French first rights; then again in 1833 by kicking out the Spanish colony for their permanent colony that remains.

  • @rochelle1088

The uninhabited Falklands were landed on named and claimed by the British John Strong in 1690, and the first British colony was created in 1765, long before Spain, and long before Argentina existed. The French had landed a settlement in 1764 unknown to the British but this made no difference to British sovereignty and the French were told to leave by the British authorities when they were discovered.

  • @houkoisthebest You're stupid. We but we do have have superior fire power, that why we rule the waves that why we can blow up your country whenever we want . Next you're country invaded an British over seas colony. Falklands will all ways be ours and will do our all to protect it. We killed 650 of you're shitty most of them with the baronet, do you know what that is or should I educate you? You're country lost get over it. The Falklands is ours, Argentina is a joke ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha .

  • @houkoisthebest No The Falklands are british and therefore in british waters. You wanker don't you learn anything from history? You invaded and then we smashed you. we will do all again giving you a humiliating defeat. we killed 650 of your troops and CAPTURED 11,000 ha ha. All in four weeks too.

  • @andyfoxy1 and perhaps you think the Argentines are going to stand by forever? ... Jjajaja ignorant. not get your hopes up too ... because when we return ... you will fall hard.

  • Great Britain will always defend her over seas territories, always. Argentina should have known better.

  • I was on the quarterdeck of HMS Yarmouth watching her as she slipped on her side and slowly disappeared in the mist.

  • what I cant understand is how much stupid is the Argentina army is to loose such an easy war

  • @xPICESx Are you a bit stupid? pardon my candour.

  • @andyfoxy1 Sorry man if you felt offended by me comment. I didn't mean anything bad. But it is really frustrating when it comes to this war. I mean I do believe that those islands should belong to Argentina. But what blows my mind is how was it possible for few ships thousands of miles away from UK to re-gain those islands from Argentina army. Look at the map man!!! They are so close to Argentina so that you feel the you can reach them swimming.

  • @xPICESx They belong to Argentina just because they are next that country? The people living there are british through and through plus were have bases there. Argentina's mistake and paid for it with there 650 killed. If someone punches you in the face you merely stand back up and punch them back.

  • @xPICESx They lost because they took on the best soldiers in the world.

  • R.I.P BUT Britain Will All Ways WIN !! :[ !!!.

  • Excellent. RIP

  • the ardent, sheffield and conventry's heroic sacrifice made sure that the royal marines and the paras could land safely. remember these heroes forever!

  • phoenix2195 :

The submarines and the RAFwill be waiting.

    Don't under-estimate them.

  • I'm sure if it was still around now Cameron would be putting it under his budget cut axe, If they try for the falklands now were fucked, no carriers and a seriously underpowered navy. Britania rules the waves no longer, makes me sad.

  • @phoenix2195 Spot on there.

  • I served on HMS Active and was on deployment to the Gulf with HMS Sheffield and RFA Blue Rover before we deployed to the Falklands in 1982. RIP brothers.

  • This ship was destroyed with made in french missile
