does anybody know if a synthetic oil can be used in the 2 stroke mix or do i have to keep buying mantis own make,i have bought a low sulphur synthetic oil for my strimmer or weed wacker whatever you want to call it and was wondering if i can use that in my mantis without damaging it
you SHOULD use ANY synthetic 2 stroke oil designed for outboards or garden machiney. You should NOT use older style Organic oil which some gardeners still have in the garden shed. We use 25:1 or 33:1 for ALL 2 strokes. You do not need to use oil from a Mantis labeled bottle. We buy oregon 2 stroke oil and use it in about 20 different 2 strokes which we own-all at 25:1 Hope that helps?
i had been using mantis 2 stroke oil but i ran out of it so i bought b&q low sulphur 2 stroke oil as i live in the uk i have gone back to a 50-1 mix as 40-1, i was told by mantis uk will block the muffler up in the exhaust i also have some 2 stroke oil made by stihl buti have not opened it yet
I have been using 25:! for 2 years on my 4 strike mantis. Machines, ie chainsaws ,strimmers etc, fitted with SPARK arresters( a fine mesh on the exhaust can block, but they do that with any fuel mix!) It is EXTREMELY unlikely to block the exhaust at 25:1 and almost verging on the impossible at 40:1!!!!
Who at mantis gave you the advice on fuel mix? I know the MD and i will mention this advice to him.basically use good oil Stihl or Oregon is fine other brand oils also OK- and don't worry!!
i emailed mantis uk and a lady called christine wild give me the advice this is what they said. Mantis UK recommends that the fuel mix in the 2 stroke tiller is 50:1, not 40:1. If the mix is a little too rich then eventually the muffler will become clogged with carbon.
The two stroke engine oil is synthetic. You can if you wish purchase the oil from us, or purchase locally a good quality oil such as Castrol or Stihl, is your mix worked out at 25ml to every litre of petrol
my mantis says on the top use a 50-1 mix but when i took a mantis that i had been given for spares or repair to a shop that deals in them they repaired it for me and told me to use a 40-1 mix even though that had a label on that stated 50-1 so the must need more oil than normal also don't mix the oil with petrol and leave standing for a month like i did as the fuel goes stale and won't fire, mix it on the day you are going to use it
Yes, the tiller will go thru sod and compact soil, they'll chop it right up. I've used both the two stroke and four stroke models and the two strokes are worlds better. They start up just as reliably as any four stroke, again like the previous post notes, if four strokes were better, chainsaws would be powered by them.
Two strokes are more reliable, notice how this reviewer says 'the four stroke is probaly more reliable'. He has not a real clue.
There are no four stroke chainsaws, because four strokes are heavier than a comparably powered two stroke, and thats a fact.
A two stroke is inherently more reliable, as the lubricating oil is contained in the fuel charge and is always clean! No oil to change with a two stroke, and the fuel remains fresh thanks to the stabilizing effect of the two stroke mix.
The Mantis or the Echo two stroke tiller is the only rational choice to be made.
I owned the Mantis 2 stroke tiller for 5 years. Sold it for $75 (cost me $250). I'm now on my 4th year with the Mantis Honda 4 stroke tiller ($399). YES it is 'harder' to start a two stroke than a 4 stroke. BOTH are highly reliable. I recommend either. The 4 stroke has always started on the 1st pull even after 8 months storage (as did my 4 stroke mower). My 2 stroke engines, ALWAYS tricky to start, never ever starts cold on the 1st or 5th pull. 4 strokes cost more but 2 stroke oils add up too.
zanedog, I like my 2 stroke engines too. The new easy start engines are best. I hate the multi cans of gas, gas/oil mixes tho. My Mantis was 50:1 and my leaf blower & string trimmer were 40:1. My mower was straight gas. The Go Green Nuts are behind the movement to ban 2 strokers. The gov. never does anything on its own. They always bow to a few big mouth kooks with deep pockets who like to make a bigg fuss til the powers that be cave-in or are bribed. Vote 'em out of office, I say.
Metasperz, you can run all of your engines with 50 to one mix if you want. Personally, i run all of my machine, yes, four strokes included, with the same gas. I buy the small bottles of echo oil and add nine, not ten litres of gas to it. This will NOT hurt a four stoke. Voila, no more problems with different mixes!

4 stroke is always better than a 2 stroke in terms of less toxic emission, or heather air (in working vicinity)
