Being born in 1990 I kind of look at the 80's and think 'that must have been fucking mindblowing at the time'. I really admire the 8 bit micro homebrew games defining the generation for a while, especially in the uk. Just a pity that the concept of the 'bedroom coder' is either dead or marginalised and branded as 'indie' where back then the indie games were usually more popular than licenses and arcade ports.
skyrim, uncharted 3, batman arkham city, mass effect 3, the last guardian, hitman absolution, these are brilliant examples that singled player games are alive and in a matter of weeks we will playing them. stalking criminals as batman or exploring dungeons in skyrim, the latter with 300 plus hours of gameplay.
@playaeyez17 depends on how you compare. I mean, do we really want to go back to pacman after playing Mass effect 2 or resident evil 4? I do agree that the 90's were awesome though. Resident evil, half life, alone in the dark... I had such good times with those games
I played Kane and Lynch 2 the other day just to play with someone else in my room. I miss games like that. Offline multiplayer... Now all they have is Guitar Hero
I wish I could press rewind to 1987 NES is like the Micheal Jordan of gaming consoles.....so legendary it's surreal and it's games have also aged like fine wine.
"Its The Legend of Zelda and its really rad those creatures from Ganon are really bad." I can understand they weren't very creative back then but seriously wtf?
ET was my fav 80s game! lol. just kidding. my fav would be either the legend of zelda or super mario bros or super mario bros 3. too many others to name.
I seem to enjoy a lot of the games that came out in the 80s even though I never really got into gamiNg until the mid 90s. It mustve been awesome to actually have been there
I think gaming is headed for a crash again. Some of these gamers today won't even support singe player games because they just want to play multiplayer over & over & over & over again. It's getting to the point where i think one day single player games might not be made for lack of support.
I don't think single player games are getting less popular, it's just multiplayer games are attracting a large ammount of people who wouldn't normaly play games.
But even single player games are diminishing it's not a bad thing, playing games online is wayyyy more fun
Multiplayer is just minldess run & gun.I don't know how you could find that more fun but maybe your more easily amused. Games are about the experince of playing through a story & a different fantasy type world, not just about mindless run & gunning. Maybe you forgot what gaming is. Multiplayer doesn't attract a bunch of people who wouldn't normally play games but just people who have forgotten singleplayer & become obsessed with multiplayer.
You're confusing multiplayer with FPS multiplayer. Just because it has multiplayer, doesn't mean its "run and gunning." The thing about competitive mutliplayer is that people LOVE proving themselves over other human beings rather than AI; this makes it more worthwhile. Sure, in today's games people demand it more than anything else. I personally, like co-op beat 'em ups like Castle Crashers would be. Wish they made more of them though... :(
@xkrazyxboix101 Maybe that's what games are about to you is projecting yourself in some fantasy world but to normal people, games are fun just because you're with your friends. It doesn't always have to be mindless running and gunning, there are more than just FPS multiplayer games.. I on the other hand like playing by myself and all but when a friend is there I have someone to converse with because i like having friends around but dont want them to be bored watching me play.
Games are just fun but it's as if people forgot what got them into gaming.Console multiplayer just became popular 5 years ago.Think about what gaming was to you & what games you played before you ever touched multiplayer . . . . . . . but once you play multiplayer you get hooked & then all of the sudden single player games are what, a bad thing? I remember when people got together & beat games & now people just want to play competitiveley across the internet. What happened to games?lol
I've never gotten into online play. That does seem the way things are going though. Lots of single player campaigns now feel like adverts for the multiplayer...Gears Of War felt like that. I will get into all that eventually but I agree with you, what I like most about games is getting lost in a world and an adventure. A Shenmue or a Zelda for instance.
Nintendo's Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road with the Four Score (allowed for 4 players) was the most interactive game I had played at the time and it flippin' rocked! Early 90's. But I do completely agree with what you're saying. Nowadays kids don't have to come up with cool ways to call next game on a single player game.
@xkrazyxboix101 My first gaming console that wasn't a handheld was the Sega Dreamcast and on there we had NBA 2k, NFL 2k, Star wars episode 1 racing and the Sega Generator which was a demo disc. I would play the Sega Generator and the racing game a whole lot it was that feeling of being a character in a world that you can't access in real life. And I think it is almost the same way with online multiplayer too. You're playing with people in a world that might not be experienced that often.
@xkrazyxboix101 I go to my friends house all the time, and all we ever really play is TimeSplitters 2 (one of the most UNDER-RATED games ever made) and Army of Two. We have more fun there than any gamer could have online.

What I remember the most is playing Mario Bross and Ninja turtles more than any other games in the NES.

Anything created, born, made, discovered or associated with the 80's kicked all other decades' collective asses.
Creativity peaked during that decade. Movies, music and TV shows this very moment owe their gratitude to the 80's.
