You should be putting wax resist on the bottoms of your pots and let that dry before you dip your pots in the glaze. That will help you a great deal, because the glaze doesn't stick to places generally where the wax resist has been applied. You can buy premade liquid wax resist at just about any ceramics supply store that sells glaze.

I find it just as fast to wipe with a sponge.
