Mercurial is the first word that springs to mind -with D's music. He ducks and weaves effortlessly between atonality and those delicious tonal sections - somehow he comes out the other side with a thing of pure beauty. He never forces the issue, he just lets the music go its own merry way - that's the way it should be!
If I compare how I sound when I'm practicing before I listen to Pahud and after I listen to Pahud, I actually sound better after I've listened to him. No joke. He's magical ♥
@adriennedrichey i noticed that too! i think it's quite normal, i sound much better when i'm taking my lesson and my teacher makes a few examples than when i make a thousand efforts at home to improve my sound...
it's such a parodox that Dutilleux disregard his early pieces, including this sonatine... It's so wonderful and popular nowadays! And the performance is excellent.
@olinafl many composers that I have met say that this piece is "too fragmentary".. maybe Dutilleux had the same opinion.. anyway it's a great sonatina, very difficult to play well
Wow, now that is impressive! But I can't expect any less from Pahud, can I?
What gets me is his impeccable phrasing. I don't know how he can go so long without breathing. Lord knows I'm practically lightheaded when I play this piece.
And I absolutely LOVE his interpretation of the final cadenza. It's brilliant. The dynamics, stretching, and color changes are absolutely astounding.
