Just cause Soulja Boy is successful doesn't mean his music is good. Vanilla Ice got rich and the backstreet boys made a ton of money. The list could go on and on. Nas was the king of NY before Biggie, I don't actually think that Nas needed Biggie in any way to be honest.

Rakim and Nas I think influenced a lot of people as well. Like if it wasn't for the the Ready to Die album Biggie wouldn't be where he was. 'Cause it was underground with the right amount of commercialism, if you get what I mean. While Illmatic was underground. Both Cd's reached success. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

@aapopaa with all due respect to all 5 of the artists you named, none of them were ever on nas' level. i love rakim and guru but i cannot agree that they were near nas. i'll even be so bold as to say that lupe fiasco is the closest to the god, nasir. this is all just my opinion; music is obviously a completely subjective thing.
