  • beautiful

  • the many moods of christmas

  • “Joseph also went to the city of David.” - Luke 2:4

Coincidence? That a second shepherd-king could emerge from the tiny village of Bethlehem? Perhaps... But only if “coincidence” truly is God’s way of remaining anonymous.

  • Robert Shaw is the all time greatest choir. I'm so sad that Mr. Shaw is dead! Is the choir still going ?

  • love this so much!!! makes me want to be a true soprano and not a mezzo :)

  • Impressive! Awesome! Hearing this chorale for the very first time. I luv them all. So glad I came across the Robert Shaw Chorale You Tube and wondered how they sound. Very Very good! You really feel the Christmas spirit. I just luv Christmas!

  • I know good music when I hear it, and this song is one of the best I've heard. What a classic rendition! Mr. Shaw deserves some standing ovation... and the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers sound like angels. Thanks for sharing, Bartje11 (12/09/11)

  • sang this version many times over the years in choir we did a lot of Shaw's music I still think its some of the best for good traditional songs.

  • GLORRRRRRRIAAAAA! ^^

  • Good God, this is beautiful, particularly around 0:50

  • @Baritone45 ah the tenor scale? eheh difficult to do in a choir context lol it's superb

  • You have no idea...I love Robert Shaw Choral, grew up on it, so the fact that you've put this up here makes me very VERY happy.

  • Robert Shaw is terrific; I have them doing "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Outstanding performers; thanks for sharing!

  • Wish there were instruments in this

  • I grew up with Robert Shaw's chorale recordings being the standard for Christmas music. Thanks for posting.

  • bartje11 Thank you for the biography. The Toscanini statement speaks volumes.

  • @haugwi01 Shaw (died, 1999) founded or conducted choirs since the 1940's at least, including the Robert Shaw Chorale, and choirs connected with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. many recordings of all types of music. Shaw was, IMHO, an American living treasure.

  • wonderful

  • YES!

  • "gloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooria"

  • Yes, thanks for taking the trouble to write all that in the comments. It's worth adding that not only was he a choir leader of genius, but a teacher of genius as well. The people he taught and worked with very often became notable conductors in their own right.

  • this is a fabulous recording!

  • Thank you for the wonderful video and the precious comments
