  • My heart physically aches when the violins start looping at 4:53. So beautiful.

  • this is absolute piece of art

  • aha their last album was definietly a stretch but atleast they still test the waters instead of churning out the same material over and over because the fans demand it ya know? but yeah cheers for good music

  • i think i could like a man

  • Dig the comfortable attire

  • their instruments are producing too much incredible sound for my headphones to handle

  • vibrato wistle that fast is hard

  • I will not have lived a full life till I see this man live in concert.

  • @paleguyalden im going to this friday, so fucking excited

  • He made this happen life. What an awesome man.

  • Saw both Dosh and Andrew Bird in different concerts...both with one of my best friends.Dosh came by and some of my most favorites ever

  • Saw both Dosh and Andrew Bird in different concerts...both with one of my best friends.Dosh came by and some of my most favorites ever

  • Andrew looks baked as hell lmao

  • So here we are at the end, the war is over

There's nothing left to defend, no cliffs of Dover

So let us put down our pens and this concludes the test

Our minds are scattered about from hell to breakfast

  • I absolutely need to see him live. He is amazing. <3

  • You can't whistle like that.

  • the two are both incredible multi-instrumentalists who work heavily with loopers,

but Dosh is more percussive and piano oriented while Bird adds a symphony aesthetic to Martins tight yet energetic style, they both have such a cohessive sound that its hard not to sit back and enjoy the view

  • This was Martin Dosh's song to begin with. Everything Mr. Bird added was awesome, but Martin Dosh's awesomeness should not be overlooked.

  • andrews shades are bad ass...great performance, he's so creative

  • if someone could tell me what kind of piano he is using, i would greatly appreciate it.

  • @hobbsmusic its a rhodes, possibly a 70s model, but they go for 2000 refurbished but beaten up about 400 to 1000

  • this is amazing

  • how does he whistle so damn good?!?

  • Anyone else ever reminded of Rufus Wainright when they hear Andrew's voice? He sounds kind of like him to me....

  • DOSH ROCKS

  • i was there!!!!!!

  • our generation's mozart

  • sounds like a mix of radiohead and sigur ros. amazing, 5/5

  • @sk8freak51392

I was thinking that he sounds like a mix of radiohead and jeff buckley. I'm can't stop listening.

  • @njones0100 I think it's more like Jeff Buckley & Patrick Wolf

  • @njones0100 he's better than both!

  • @lcmbasto ehhh, I absolutly love Andrew Bird and Radiohead but they're both in a level of their own and they're just thriving where there at musicly, I believe so anyways

  • @sethfafa i was talking about Jeff Buckley and Patrick Wolf... I love Radiohead too, except the first and the last album...

  • You would think that the violin entering and swelling in sound would ruin the rythym and key but it really helps it a lot. Just the awkwardness and swelling and singing and beats are all intertwined in some freaky out-of-this-world attitude but the song itself is very modest.

    Andrew Bird isn't human.

  • "Simple X" is Andrew Bird's best song, followed by "Lull" and "Heretics"

  • @stonebirdsmusic Anonanimal is his best, IMO.

  • @ArseneWengerIsGod it's not bad but definitely not top 3

  • @stonebirdsmusic LOL at saying "definitely" regarding someone else's opinion. (rolls eyes)

  • Don't look now, but I think I see the spaceship from "District 9" in the background...

  • i swear i've heard this before has this ever been played in a movie? btw this is a great song

  • Wow

  • Hard to sound this good with an outdoor arena

  • @sybo59 no the people in the back just cant hear anything.

  • @drunkenXirishman I prefer indoor acoustics, especially for this type of music.

  • what did he mean by there will be snacks? synth? :(

  • @LeblaunkDeAlau Lyric of Tables and Chairs.

  • @LeblaunkDeAlau Haha don't be sad, some dude says "will there be snacks" at the very beginning and Andrew Bird replies with - "there will be snacks".

  • the pianist messed up at 2:40. lol

  • @mefonda10 pretty sure that was intentional

  • Naw dude

  • @mefonda10 thats rhodes, and i dont hear that he messed up :-)

  • this is the most original sound ive heard in a while. its incredible dosh is able to manipulate the song by adding and subtracting layers of beats and make it come out so perfectly live

  • so very damn cool and such an inspiration.

  • so damn cool.

  • this is fucking heartbreaking.

  • Simply amazing music! This is music at its core. Just Amazing!

  • wat roo was this??

  • "will there be snacks?", "there will be snacks."

  • how is he looping his violin so much ?

its amazing , he sounds like an orchestra

    plleeaseee someone i must knoww

  • Maybe an echoplex? Check out the software application Mobius...

  • they use a variety of echo/loop pedals, in this video martin is using a boss dd-5 looks like, to loop and manipulate his drums... i know andrew used a couple of line-6 delay modellers for looping his violins, and i think he also recently has used an electro harmonix delay/looper..

  • @watkinscopicat

what type of device is it do you think he is using for the electronic drum sounds ?

  • I believe they are the acoustic drums recorded live, then manipulated with the delay pedal, and re-recorded and played back. There is a good video of some solo Dosh in his basement, and it appears as though that's what he's doing. And it makes sense. Can't be sure though.

  • very nice

  • This is sexcellent!!!

  • Excellent whistling beginning at 1:28 mark.

  • sounds like heaven

  • Oh come on! I love Andrew, but I want to see some Dosh action too!

  • I wish they hadn't cut out Martin's solo.

  • I was almost as enraptured to this song as this crowd. Seriously i didnt hear a sound other than ppl cheering softly

  • there will be snacks.

  • omg. i love him. he must be a genius!

  • madly in love with his talent and this sone is probably my favorite.

  • spine-chilling whistles...

  • Different, unique, soothing...what can I say, very impressive. Real music!!!

  • snaks for your mi-"eee"-nd

  • The guy is a genius... in almost every single aspect of a musician.

  • it can't be reminiscent if they've been doing it since before postal service.

  • @pencildives You can't reminisce about something that hasn't happened yet. It's like saying Led Zeppelin is reminiscent of The Darkness. Absurd.

  • @herofalls LOFL.....love this comment..... No offense to postal service, who are cool enough....but lets be honest here......Bird and Dosh are to the inde-Lo-Fi looper movement what Dizzy and Bird were to Be-Bep,.....what Ozzy and Manson are to Metal....McCartny & Lennon were to boy-bands

  • @herofalls No Offense to Postal Service, who are cool enough.....but lets be straight here, Bird and Dosh are to the Indie-Lo-Fi Looper's movement ...what Dizzy and Bird were to Be-Bop, what Ozzy and Manson are to Metal, what McCartny & Lennon are to Boy-Bands.

  • indeed simular..but the postal service album is from 2007..

So Andrew and Martin can be like annoying internet commenters and go: "FIRST!"

  • 2003*, but according to that other guy these guys did it first anyway, and i just fail.

  • thanks for clearing that up. I was about to slap you for saying 2007. Haha. Just kidding.

  • they have such a crazy set up for this... shoot... ive been looking for new music and i think i found stuff thats interesting enough to last me for years

  • check out grizzly bear and also fleet foxes

  • amazing :D

  • Ohh man I'm so digging Martin Dosh. He's a really creative musician and when Andrew Bird teams up with him it makes it even cooler. Great video!

  • Feel good music

  • I SAW HIM LIVE IN TORONTO

He played Why and Tables and Chairs for the encore

He had distortion for his violin, IT WAS AMAZING!

  • u luky bastard

  • haha hularias my friend and i both yelled out asking for snacks when we saw him

  • Comment removed

  • damn dosh, you make this

  • amazing!!!!!!!! Why I just discovered Andrew Bird I don't know but I am glad I did. He is truly incredible. Such a breath of fresh air compared to all the crap out there today

  • this is really amazing.

  • these two guys have more talent in one combined little finger than most of the "artists" in the top40 these days... sick!

  • that was fucking beautiful

  • wow wow, why cutting the vid at the start of this great drum solo?!?

  • the violins coming in somewhere in the 3 minute mark are unreal.

Sigur Ros really would be a good match up!

  • there will be snacks

  • Will there be snacks?

  • pretty impressive... I enjoyed !

they should make a song ft. Sigu Ros... would be pretty sick

  • well radiohead + I was there when he accidentally said the thing about moritatmusic and their myspace page. Whatever, I do enjoy the whistling.

  • I love how this sounds live. a lot of performers play their live shows as a direct copy of their material, and I love how much experimentation and new stuff there is in this.

  • I appreciate this song even more now that I've seen it live on YouTube:)

  • The break into Martin's keyboard solo (what instrument is that?) at 4:15 is unreal. I'm in awe of these guys. The performance is altogether pretty sloppy but somehow still amazingly good.

  • id put it at either a snyth or piano, if that helps you at all, and sloppy my ass

  • It's a Fender Rhodes Electric Piano

  • It's actually a Wurlitzer electric piano, probably a model 200A

The Rhodes does have a similar tone, so I can see how someone would make that mistake

  • if by sloppy you mean organized chaos then i will lower the back of my hand

  • I wonder if the, "no surprises" lyric is referencing their radiohead influence.

  • i was at this concert and all of bonnaroo 06 for that matter this was one of the best performances that weekend for sure. radiohead was the shit too

  • I can totally see why my boyfriend loves this guy.

  • this is such an oddly perfect combination of musicians.

  • i <3 martin dosh!! :X

  • this song sometimes makes you cry

  • goosebumps

  • i never would've thought whistlin could be so...COOL!

  • first time i hear this...but i got the music on a dosh-lp for years now..he supplies the beat well

  • THIS IS WHY I WANT TO GO TO A ANDREW BIRD CONCERT D:<

-One of the things i have to do before i die,

  • i saw him solo at an intimate club in seattle 2005 - he played mostly from weather systems and introduced some songs from mysterious egg production - it changed my life.

  • I'd never really seen Dosh do his loop-based stuff with anyone else. It was really interesting to see a song I originally knew as a solo piece be adapted into group piece. Cool stuff.

  • Andrew Bird and Dosh are awesome together.

  • "will there be snacks?"

    "there will be snacks."

    hahahaha! :]

    gosh i love him.

  • makes me want to break out my violin...

wish he'd play it (not piccado) and sing at the same time, i've seen fiddle players do it, sure he easily could

  • there would be a lot of bleedthrough in the mic though

  • and he does

  • Like the La Blogotheque version of Weather Systems.

  • LOOK andrew bird is trying to play the cockinseal.

  • Its a glockenspiel...and I think he pays it wonderfully.

  • I'm a little interest, what pedal was the drummer messing around with in the beginning.

  • i think he was just using the bass and snare. the very first beat was him on the snare. he then looped that and proceeded with another beat. i think..

  • It's a boss digital delay. Not sure if its the dd3 or the dd6. I think he has a sampled snare line that he's just messing up with the delay.

It looks like the pedal has two bigger knobs and then two smaller knobs in between, which the boss digital delay does not have, but really it is boss digital delay just with the two middle knobs missing. Just goes to show that martin dosh uses the crap out of his equipment, and does it well.

  • recording the drums to replay in the back during the song so he can do other things

  • wow....i had only heard a couple of his songs before, but i am just blown away. this song is SO beautiful....

  • he wrote a few of the words each morning over coffee. beautiful, early morning.

  • this is so very very pretty.

  • awesomeness.

  • Wow, what a great song and performance...

  • This is some awesome shit, Always good for my ears.

  • Zuriku, I just looked at that vid on your page: How I died. First, go and get some medical attention. I am not being rude. It is a sick outlook and if you are simply playing around, don't we have too many senseless killings. Why is that vid so full of hate and despair? Why the senseless killing? Please get some help!

  • My video "How i died" is about how much stress goes through my head, and how i might end up killing my self because all of this lonliness is going through my life, It's alot of personal shit really, and i'm not playing around, And the music i have purscribed for my ears is the greatest to me-

  • zu, I am sorry to hear of your loneliness and stress. I am no therapist but I care immensely about people and their happiness. Just know that whatever causes your anguish can be dealt with without violence. The anger and hatred in some vids seems excessive and could contribute to your dilemma. The neglect of the soul also can be a factor. Unless it's a medical issue? Sorry, I just care!

  • XD You hardly know me, As to you i'm labeled as "A random guy off of the internet" Nah i mean my life has never been bad, It's just i've had a hard time finding the right girl, And thanks for your concideration heh-

  • OK, good, sorry to come over all samaritan-like. Good luck buddy!

  • yea. me too buddy.

  • why must you two always argue on andrew bird videos. enjoy his inspirational music, and shut the fuck up.

  • why must you two always argue on andrew bird videos. enjoy his inspirational music, and shut the fuck up.

  • Man, bird just moves me. That wou;ld deffinately have been a spiritual experience, being there, and hearing it for the first time. Totally beautiful.

And to everyone, can we keep the vibe positive? it isn't fun for anyone to be around so much anger. with love to everyone out there i'll probably never get to meet.

  • I think you have something genetically wrong with you. I'm sorry

  • nick21086, I'm curious, who are you talking to in saying they are genetically wrong?

  • I won't print your name racistiggeryash, but I tell you this: you'll have all the time you want to practice your filthy activities that you are describing here on a public forum. The time in jail you spend you can do all those things you are spreading here and not have to burden the viewers of youtube with. You are disgustingly filthy and will be stopped.

  • Like, who ARE you?

    You are disgusting.

  • "who ARE you", as in "who the feck do you think you are".

    Are you really that stupid?

    Poor baby.

    :)

  • hahahaha :)

  • Nadine I am proud to say it's nice to finally find someone on you-tube with a good sense of humour. I originate from Canada myself and played with Alanis Morrissette in Ottawa, before she was as famous as she is now. She had a very good sense of humour as well. You remind me of her in a way, the way you respond quickly like that.

  • "whom" is not a fancy word to occasionally use in place of "who."

when you're speaking of the subject you use "who" and when you're speaking of the object you may use "whom."

  • Ands if the object is the subject......?

Get 'Strunk and White' and see how wrong you are.

  • Strunk and White has never been definitive or even reliable. They have an annoying tendency to make up rules, like the whole "never use passive voice" thing.

  • Whom the hell are you to say when it's right to say who can say whom and when?

  • i'm an english major.

the word has been used incorrectly for quite some time but that doesn't make it right to continue to use it that way.

    google it.

  • It google way that it use to continue to right it make doesn't that but time some quite for incorrectly in used been has word the major english and I'm.

  • The Who were never called the Whom ! Ever !
