it took a long time to start because the first time os x starts, or after an point update, osx has to "kext check"... basically go and see what kexts (kernel extensions) it needs.

it then creates a mkext file.

I wouldn't get a 17" mbp simply because its too big to fill its purpose as a portable computer. I would however get a 15" with the same specs if you need a on the go computer. on the other hand if you don't plan on ever talking your computer with get the 27 inch iMac all specced out with a 3.4 ghz. processor (i would do the ram upgrades myself because apples charges 600 USD for something you could do yourself for 200 USD) and a 2tb hard rive and a 256 gb ssd for speed. (don't forget apple care!)

@zizon65 i got a 7200 rpm drive in mine and its not much of an improvement but you'll regret not getting one in it .. it speeds it up a bit but it reads and writes things much faster than the 5400 rpm drive ... i got the glossy display and i don't regret it , the colours pop much more than the anti-glare and the reflection is hardly noticeable plus the design is much nicer with the glossy- the colours are much better than my dads 27 inch imac i7's calibrated display!

so from what I can tell, the glossy has a black outer edge on the screen, and the matte has a silver finish? is that correct??

I like the black touch on the outside of the screen ALOT more, even though matte is better on the eyes in different lightings. also, glossy appears to be more vivid and sharp. please reply

if you don't know what a macbook pro is for, then you probably shouldn't be looking at it. These "yoys" cost thousands of quid because a pro can be used for some pro work. You can try the macbook, but you'll have then glare & colour fidelity issue, and if you're doing real editing then you'll find speed a problem.

First ask what you need. Then find the computer within your budget that does it.

Get the Macbook Pro. The Macbook Air is slower and it hardly has any ports, one USB, audio in/out and mini display port. The Macbook Pro on the other hand has ethernet port, 2 USB ports, firewire 800, SD card slot, mini display port and a superdrive. Hope this helps you out :)

If it's for photography and other similar uses indoors, then I would suggest glossy. Just make sure you are not working in overly-lit areas.
